Chris Webber Retires: How Will He Be Remembered? Is LeBron-Gisele Vogue Cover Racist? Shaq Disses Heat!

Posted on March 27, 2008 9:54 AM

After 15 seasons in the L and five All-Star Game appearances, Chris Webber has called it a career. Despite the injuries the last few seasons, I think you got to remember my man as one of the elite power forwards. Period!

I feel like it's funny that his career ends where it started - Golden State. But in reality, we all know he became the face of the Sacramento Kings. That '02 Kings team was UNBELIEVABLE. Too bad that they couldn't play a lick of defense.

Maan, C-Webb ... we love you big pimpin'. Expect my dude to easily transition behind the analyst desk. He's actually doing TNT halftime with Ernie, Charles and Kenny tonight. God Bless.

They'll probably show this clip tonight:

But I must ask: After averaging 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 15 seasons of the L, is C-Webb Hall of Fame-bound!? Speak on it, homies!

Moving on, I was surfing the net and would you believe that a lot of people believe that this LeBron-Gisele Vogue cover is racist!?

lebron.jpg

Some peeps actually believe that the cover makes LeBron look like King Kong and Gisele like the helpless white lady that King Kong grabs out the building. Wow.

What do y'all think!? Is there something to racist claims on this Vogue cover or are peeps over reacting!?

Finally, y'all heard Shaq diss the Heat!? Diesel told the Boston Globe yesterday:

"I love playing for this coach (Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni) and I love playing with these guys. We have professionals who know what to do. No one is asking me to play with Chris Quinn or Ricky Davis. I'm actually on a team again."

Wow. I love the Diesel, but the dude is wrong for this one. The Heat put the dude out his misery and sent him to Phoenix. What more does he want!? Ain't cool Shaq. It ain't like you're going to win with the Suns. You're not even getting out the first round, homie. Real talk.

It was all good just a week ago ...

Ok so ricky davis is wack and quinn aint too hot but this reaffirms my claim that u gave up on your team who bust they ass to get better! Its cool, its Wade county anyway, we'll be back in da finals before you get there with the suns! Go sit ya old ass down shooting 5 foot airballs over tyson chandler while we get michael beasley or D rose and turn this thing around!

yo Lebron i thought for a vougue cover he would look distinguish he looked out of place. i dont think racist just typical not thinking.

shaq wasnt hating on miami last year i thought he loved dwayne wade. come on he was on a team of injured players he is bugging phoenix might not even make it out the 1st round if they play surs, lakers, hornets,Jazz, what will he say then??

  • I don't find the LeBron cover racist. He is a basketball player and he shows that intensity on the court all the time. What's so different about it in a mag cover? Plus Giselle is a model, so of course she's gonna be there sitting pretty and all. Got taken WAYYYY overboard.

I HOPE THE SUNS PLAY THE KOBE & THE LAKERS I WANT SEE THE LAKERS BEAT SUNS. THIS SEASON THE SUNS ARE 1-3 VERUS THE LAKERS

  • HELL YEAH THAT 02 KINGS TEAM WAS UNBELIEVABLE I'M STILL MAD TO THIS DAY THEY GOT JIPPED BY REFS IN GAME 7 VS LAKERS... ANYWAYS... CHRIS WEBBER USED TO BE MY FAV PLAYER, THOUGHT HE COULD'VE ENDED UP IN THE HALL OF FAME BUT UNFORTUNETLY WILL MISS OUT... NO CHAMPIONSHIPS = NO FORGETTING TIMEOUT MELTDOWN... LEBRON COVER REALLY ISN'T THAT CONTROVERSIAL TO ME, JUST FUNNY, BECAUSE HE REALLY DOES LOOK GORILLA-LIKE... AND SHAQ?? THAT WAS JUST TOTALLY CLASSLESS OF HIM. I WOULD THINK AFTER WINNING A SHIP (AND ALL THAT PRAISE HE WAS HEAPING ON RILEY AND WADE, ETC) THAT HE WOULD HAVE THE PROFESSIONALISM TO MOVE ON WITH HIS BUSINESS LIKE A 35-YEAR-OLD SHOULD. SHAQ'S A BEAST. BUT THE MAN IS JUST A BIG ASS CHILD WITH THE KIND OF COMMENTS HE'S MADE. STR8UP.

  • As many times as I have seen MJ on covers he never looked like that so I'm not gonna say racist but bad taste.C Webb is not a Hall of Famer but he will always be known in the b-ball world because he has alot of highlights(good and bad).Being a Heat fan all I can say is I need to hear the interview beacuse to me it seems like he is only talking about two people and for the past 2 years the Heat haven't been a team so I'll leave that one alone.

  • Chris Webber is a bonafide HOF'er, 20 and 10 for a career, two NCAA Final Fours, don't forget the Fab 5 changed the face of college basketball, no matter how you look at it. And I recall Peja being the one to choke when the Kings were in the Western conference finals.

  • March 27, 2008 2:26 PM
  • Chris "Mundelz" says...
  • Delshawn...

In his prime (Sactown), I was as big a C-Webb fan as anybody. I just loved his all-around game and skill set as well as his basketball IQ. However, Chris Webber is not a Halll of Famer, let alone "bonafide" HOF as you stated. Those stats are all fine and dandy but unfortunetly for Webber, voters will look at his college career as tainted and his pro career quite frankly was never the same after knee reconstruction and he faded to virtual NBA obscurity. (Hell, he may have been more relevant in hip-hop at one point, having produced "Blunt Ashes off Nas's "Hip Hop Is Dead")... At the end of the day, as I stated in my initial post... NO CHAMPIONSHIPS = NO FORGETTING TIMEOUT MELTDOWN... TOUGH COOKIES FOR MY MAN C-WEBB.

  • Shaq is over the hill he was over the hill when MIA got him. If you look at evey team shaq has played on he's had a good supporting cast of players. When it's just him and you ask him to carry the team he can't do it . Case in piont in ORL he and penny hardaway played good together but when penny got hurt and Shaq needed to carry the team he couldn't do it so he bolted to L.A..Shaq isn't a dominating player anymore and he hasn't been for about six years now. If it wasn't fo steve nash and amare carrying PHO this team would be under 500.

  • SHAQ IS A JEALOUS MO-FO! read this below; He even dissed Dwayne Wade, Amare you next just watch--

O'Neal's relationship with the Heat, in fact, had deteriorated in the months that followed the team's 2006 NBA championship.

For example, while O'Neal chose to belittle Davis with his latest comments, O'Neal pushed for the team to deal forward Antoine Walker, with Davis arriving from Minnesota in that exchange.

Amid Walker's conditioning battles with Riley, O'Neal went as far as to refer to Walker as "Ruben Studdard," the stocky American Idol champion.

Such remarks extended to the top of the team's talent ladder, with O'Neal privately referring to Dwyane Wade as "Wonder Boy," rekindling memories of the ugly departures O'Neal had from Penny Hardaway with the Magic and Kobe Bryant with the Lakers.

O'Neal also had spent years belittling former Lakers teammate Eddie Jones, who the Heat allowed to depart this past offseason.

Having previously called his coach "the great Pat Riley," O'Neal apparently took a contrasting view as the team stumbled to the bottom of the standings.

"I guess when you have a lot of power, you can do what you want," O'Neal told the Globe of Riley's personnel moves. "Me? If I ever came into that kind of power, I think I'd be willing to admit it if I messed up."

Riley, in fact, has mentioned numerous times that he deserves a failing grade for his offseason personnel moves, moves limited by the $20 million annual salary he granted O'Neal as part of a five-year, $100 million contract.

Riley, who holds the dual title of team president, reiterated that Wednesday.

"I've taken blame, basically, for this," Riley said. "The buck stops at the top. I wish him nothing but the best. I don't have anything but good feeling for Shaq. I mean it. I don't care what he's saying right now.

"He wanted to go to a contender. And we sent him there. We sent him to Utopia and we're here left with the carnage. And I don't know why he's not happy."

The team previously had gone as far as to afford O'Neal significant time off to rehabilitate a sore left hip, only to have O'Neal say that he did not get proper treatment until he arrived in Phoenix.

"It's really a shame that he would insult those people like that," Riley said of the Heat medical staff.
