Flashback Fridays: Remember How Nice Roy Jones, Jr. Used To Be With His Hands? Jones or Trinidad - Who's Winning?

What up world? Y'all ready for this Roy Jones, Jr.-Tito Trinidad fight at the Garden tomorrow night or what?

I'm going to keep it funky with y'all. When I first heard about this fight months ago, I was like, 'Come on! These dudes are waay past their prime.'
Then I heard the tag line on the fight - "BRING ON THE TITANS"
Come on, Don King and company! That tag would have fit the bill maybe 10 years ago ... not now!
I think the fight should be billed: "I'M STILL RELEVANT ... I SWEAR!"
But the more I read about this fight and listen to Jones' comments, I'm reminded about how cold this dude's fight game used to be. Dude used to drop HIS hands and still knock the f**k out his opponent. The power, the quick hands, light feet, elusiveness and showmanship ... at one time Roy Jones Jr. was that damn badd.
SOHH in today's Flashback Friday I pay homage to a dude, who once pound-for-pound was the baddest. Here are two of my favorite clips from his archives:
Roy Jones vs. Virgil Hill
Peep the power & lightning hands: The most vicious body shot you'll ever see. At the 3:42 point in this clip, you'll see Jones connect with a right to the body, which cracked Hill's ribs like a Pringles' chip.
Roy Jones vs. Montell Griffin II
Peep the swag, the showmanship. If you remember, Jones really beat Griffin in their first fight, but was disqualified, when he punched dude when he was on one knee. Well, watch Jones knock dude halfway across the ring here. Crazy.
I respect dude for what he's done, but I still can't forget about this. Why does shorty that walks out at :28 look like Britney Spears? Y'all Musta Forgot! --->Shaking my head<---
Tito fans ... don't think I'm going to post a highlight of your boy not really beating Oscar De La Hoya. Nope. He never beat him. What you want me to do? I'm sorry!

First.... This will be easy... Jones will knock this punk out quickly. Trinidad wasnt really that great. Then again...this could go either way. They both havent boxed in years. This will be interesting. I like how SOHH Ballsy didnt put any Trinidad videos up. We all see who youre in favor of.

Roy Jones is great, I love him very much. I did see him at the interacial club mixedfriends.com a few days ago. Seems he is very hot at that club.

Tito's list off opponents are far more impressive than Roy's. Roy fought warehouse workers and mailmen (seriously) and he once played a game of basketball before a fight when all he had to do was find a tougher opponent. There's an old saying, "you're only as good as your opposition," and Roy's was never great. That doesn't mean he didn't have the potential to be great but his entire career was carefully guided to avoid challenges. It's easy to look good against bums. Having said that, I think Roy will win only because he's too big for Tito. Once again he's picked the right opponent at the right time.

I was at the Trinidad/Winky fight and I don't recall Winky knocking anything out of Tito. I remember a sleeper of a fight where Tito lost the decision despite being the agressor as is his custom. What fight were you watching?

Trinidad = 35 yrs old

You must be talking about some rematch that I missed. The fight I saw was a no brainer. Winky beat the hell out of Tito. I acutally shed a tear for a brotha. I don't know what you saw from those nose bleed seats, but my ring side seats in front of my big ass TV showed a completely one-sided fight.
what up, Ballsy, my dude you brought up boxing again, oh no!. lol. Aight, well I like whatyou wrote and damn right Trinadad has no props to get a video. He was a hack. He fought CAMACHO at the end of his run by decision. Felix won a controversial decision to Oscar De La Hoya, again no ko. Hopkins TKO'd Felix in the 12th round in 2001, after beating a hack worse then felix (Mayorga) , Felix was beaten up for 12 rounds by Winky Wright.
So let's stop acting like Trinidad is a great boxer. His history of fights is suspect, his wins more so and if not for all the BORICUA love , which is blinded by national pride (including morons who live in USA but yell BORICUA) then really Trinidad does not rank high as a boxer or even a latino Boxer as names like Duran/Camacho/Arguello/Chavez and YES De La Hoya rank much higher..
As a latino, I love boxing , i love my latin people, but I can't co-sign a hack like Trinidad...this fight I will skip and jsut watch on HBO next sat nite. peace
First, Thing first peeps I seen that de la hoya fight aganist tito...and all dude kept doing was running from tito like a little school girl..come on man the judges see that. Tito came to fight on that card..de la hoya... thought he was going to win by point. First of all, it ain't hard to tell, need to just play with a big purple one. What about they way he broke down Pernell? The boy fought Chavez, granted an old Chavez, but he did it, and won it like the way a young dude supposed to beat an old dude. His knockout game is legitimate. His style is an Alexis Argeullo type of style, so that is why some quicker or faster dudes tend to look like they putting in more work than him, but Tito digs in when he punches. I am leery because of this fact, Roy Jones is a fast fighter. But Tito has been knocked down in his career, but never like the two perfect knockouts that were scored on Roy Jones. Roy got knocked the fuck out!!! Both times. That shit ain't never happen with Tito, even after he takes a whippin, so all you Roy fans don't be suprised if it go down the other way. Another thing Roy is the more commercial fighter, so I know money is definitely a factor. Tito is a more serious fighter, so I just can't see him coming out of retirement to get his ass whipped. Anyway Tito all day, viva la libertad! Tito do yo thing.

Yo, straight up. I'ma fan of both fighters, but i gotta say Tito wins this one. That beard is the only thing Roy has left on that chin and i'm sure he's gonna shave it before the fight. All Tito has to do is graze Roy's chin and he may go down. Roy's speed ain't nuthin like it was before and Tito doesn't change. I say Tito by late TKO.

He was the agressor against De La Hoya which is why the judges gave him the nod and he was the aggressor against Hopkins which cost him his first TKO. You wouldn't know this cause you're as clueless about boxing as you are about hip hop.
Trinidad by BRUTAL KO. niggas have to remember Tito only lost to Bernard the Excutioner Hopkins and Winky Wright who are are top pound for pound boxers with the greatest with some of the greatest defenses in the sport hands down.
Jones has never had great defense. His offense is basically his defense. Tito got Brutal two fisted stopping power, This fight is going to look like what Tito did to David the American Dream Reid. Roy will win the early rounds but Tito will catch him with a big left hook and finish him. Nobody stops fighters like Trinidad

Tito has fought twice in the last 4 years and hasn't fought since 05'. Jones has fought twice in last 2 years (Hanshaw & Ajamu.) Jones' last bout was in July 07'. Tito is a homo, Jones has this in the bag.

Please believe I ain't claiming to know a damn thing about hip hop. That ain't never been my preferred genre of music. I come to SOHH because I am interested in black folks news. I have been a fight fan probably since before you were born lil man. It is my favorite sport by far and I know enough to know that Winky beat Tito's ass convincingly. That fact that you don't makes me question your fight knowledge bruh. As for being ringside, I tried it once, from ringside (I rode to the fight with the fighter) and learned that as much as I like fights, I don't have the stomach to watch it live so on that you are right. I will always have the best seats in the house in front of the TV.
