Marion Jones was just sentenced to six months in prison for lying about using steroids and her knowledge of a check-fraud scam.

Ok, she lied about her knowledge of her baby's daddy involved in a forged-check scheme. That's one thing, fine. Punish her for that. She deserves to be punished for that. But to accompany the lying of steroids and throw her ass in jail is f**king crazy to me!

People need that they have the right to plead the fifth. The feds may lie and tell you that you can't but are lying. If you look at her case she's not going to jail for anything that has to do with the case they were investigate. They basically asked her questions that they knew the answer so she would lie.
I'm going to side with the minority. Jones lied about the steroids and should be punished as such. Hell, I don't even know how much jail time is orginially alloted for a cime of this caliber, but either way, Marion has to do her time. You can't be pleading around like you're Paris Hilton and consider doing less time. That's down right ridiculous. I think many of you fail to realize that Marion might have actually gotten a break (a slap on the wrist) for the crime she committed. She gave back the medals and the prize money (I hope she did the latter as well), and you all still gripe about a tiny prison sentence? Give me a break.

She didnt snitch, she committed perjury she goes to jail. Those are the laws of the country. What i dont understand is how some white cat in politics got caught for perjury and they didnt send him 2 jail. Its always a double standard.
People don't understand that part of being rich & famous includes many responsibilities and sometimes being a role model is one of them. Boy, the mighty have fallen and very hard but the plus is, it could always be worse. I don't think Marion should have been sentenced to six months in jail but think about this, word is the six months for each charge was under consideration and she did go very hard when she sued Balco for lying and she knew deep inside that they were not. If I'm not mistaking, she was suing for 25 mil, so she was taking the lie all the way but got caught and when you lie big and get caught, you usually fall hard. As for the Tim Montgomery check scam thing, yeah, that was bad, to me, even worse than the steroid but instead of lying (because afterall, he is the father of her child and what mother is going to testify against the father of her child unless he is doing something to harm the family) she should have hurried up and married him or rather he should have married her. Spouses can't be compelled to testify against one another. Here's hoping that the time passes quickly and Marion can come out and get on with her life. I doubt she will be left destitute even if she no longer has money of her own. Her current husband is an athlete, she is a college graduate, she can always write another book and she has a couple of friend in high places. She may not end up as well off as she once was but I don't envision her sleeping on the streets anytime soon. It is a shame though, so much promise. The plus is that she is still young enough (31) to do something else with her life. I wouldn't say that she has a whole lot of time but she still has some time. One more thing, the next thing I'm expecting to see on the evening news, are all those baseball players doing their perp walk right into jail.

All of them have condoned the use of performance enhancing drugs at some stage or another, all of them.
Today, all sports have stars who are, or have used, something out of the norm to achieve spectacular results, even something as simple as money can give a person an advantage.
Will all wealthy sports stars face prison for using such benefits to give them the advantage they obviously get from having access to greater funds than other competitors?
Absolutely nothing will be gained by the imprisonment of that poor woman, after all, she's lost everything already, what more harm do you honestly think depriving her innocent little children of their mother will do?
This world needs to start acting responsibly.
My observation of all sporting clubs is that all of them are involved in the use of drugs, not the least of them being alcohol.

I have to really comment her for being a real woman which is really being more of a man then bonds or clemens for admitting her guilt. although I dont agree that six months is fair I think she should have been given maybe a month. white celebrities are always getting off easy for the crimes they commit. As a track and field athlete its really safe to say that 90% of the athletes on the pro circuit or on roids of some sort (i think so). also if all the athletes would have been clean the results of her races would have been the same.

2000- C.J. Hunter, Jones husband, failed a drug test and Jones that year had her best year to date winning three gold (100, 200, 4x400 relay) and two bronze medals (long jump, 4x100 relay).
2001 - In world championships at edmonton collect two golds (200, 4x100 relay). In the same year Hunter and Jones divorce as Hunter is part of an investigation with BALCO.
2002. Hunter retires following the publicity surrounding the BALCO scandal. In this same year Jones Sets the meet record at the Prefontaine Classic with a 10.90 in the 100
2004 - Jones ex husband Hunter tells the San Francisco Chronicle he injected Jones with banned substances and saw her inject herself. Jones denies the allegations. With the spotlight on Jones and her drug test, Jones fails to medal at the Athens Olympics, finishing fifth in the long jump, her only individual event. Most people are not surprised or letdown by Jones performance as her body also does not look as strong as previous years.
This same year in her 2004 autobiography, Marion Jones: Life in the Fast Lane. Taking up all of page 173 in large red letters, she wrote: I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN UNEQUIVOCAL IN MY OPINION: I AM AGAINST PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS. I HAVE NEVER TAKEN THEM AND I NEVER WILL TAKE THEM
Late 2004 BALCO founder Victor Conte tells a national tv audience watching ABC that he gave Jones illegal performance enhancing drugs before, during and after the 2000 Olympics.
2006- with Jones body in better shape then 2 years earlier, Jones tests positive for a banned substance at the U.S. Championships. She is later cleared by her second sample.
However that same year, Jones former coach , Trevor Graham, is involved in the Balco scandal as an unsent letter written by BALCO's Victor Conte to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency described the use of an oral testosterone by Graham that "will clear the body and be undetectable in urine in less than a week after discontinuing use."
2007- Judge Karas gives Jones six months for lying about steroid use and two months -- to run concurrently -- for misleading federal investigators about a check fraud case involving her ex-boyfriend, former 100-metres world record holder Tim Montgomery
