Maan, I remember this like it was yesterday. A young, brash Allen Iverson gets the G.O.A.T. Michael Jordan on an iso and well, the rest is history.
Dude...to hear Iverson narrate this clip is money in the bank. Chuuch!
I love how Iverson breaks this down.
"When I grabbed the ball, I heard Phil Jackson yell, 'Michael!'
Then the broadcaster says, "Iverson has Jordan...the crowd is into it."
"I gave him a little cross to see would he bite on it. I let him set his feet and then I stepped it back again."
Man, oh man! I hope y'all hip-hop heads like me see the symbolism in this moment. Here's A.I., a fearless young buck in the L, measuring up to M.J., undoubtedly the G.O.A.T. It was time for Iverson to shine. Isn't this what young MCs do all the time?! They go at the best, the top dog...as they should. This is no different.
What's crazy about this clip is at the time, peeps looked at it like a sort of passing of the torch. Well, it wasn't exactly that, as Jordan went on to win more rings. But what it was, was a statement Iverson made. The statement made was the young blood, the hip-hop crowd is in the L and the league's gonna be ok. To me, no player reps hip-hop culture better than A.I. Word.
I'll always remember this sh*t!
Flashing Back to the Future now...I threw back to this moment because A.I. reminded me how ill he can be this week. The man dropped 51 against Los Angeles (even though Denver lost) on Wednesday and 35 in a win at Dallas last night. Whew.
THE ANSWER, BABY!
Your Boy,
SOHH Ballsy
Not too long after he crossed Jodan, didn't he shake Scottie Pippen to.
Allen I, had that sick EPMD joint! (So what cha sayin)...
Remember my man Tim Hardaway? I use to put dudes on crutches with that signature move. Oxford health insurance still got cases on me cuz their clients couldnt pay the bills!
i liked when MAD TV did a skit on that. "I DID THAT 2 JORDAN YO"
http://www.myspace.com/jdubbthayounghectic
Yo that nigga Iverson is the true definition of hip-hop in da league, VA stand-up and re-up! You already know what it is...
as much as i fux wit AI...and as NASTY as that was...JORDAN STILL DROPPED LIKE 45 OR SOME SHIT IN THAT GAME! yo Jordan my idol man,...n I dont even run ball like I used to. that nig just made my childhood better...i'd RIDE for that nig if he told me he needed me to catch a body or some shit - real talk! lol.
yea man this play always get ur attn. Iverson with that crossover...oooohh. but MJ IS THE G.O.A.T. so just for you ya'll to know The Bulls went on to win that game on MJ's back.......and iunno bout shakeN Scottie afterwards, dnt think that happen
That entire season was crazy!!! kobe was shakin the shit outta niggas with this crossover at that time, but Iverson was just a MONSTER with it (rookie of the year), and he would fuck around and dunk over niggas after he cut em'! The Jordan crossover was just the highlight! This cross hardley ever gets shown from A.I.'s view cause he shook the shit outta MJ, twice!! Eddie jones was a beast that year too, Vince was on some other shit with the dunks that year. 96-97 was the shit in the NBA!! Feels like that was the last great draft class thus far....
NEONDEION- Your a retard. Kobe was doing absolutely nothing that year. unless u call garbage mins playing. check his resume. also Carter wasn't in NBA till lockout season. that would make 99 his rookie yr. So know your shit b4 you comment! 1.
Yea, he did that but MJ gave them 35...and furthermore the crossover usually gets you pass a defender but MJ recovered so fast that AI had to settle for the jump-shot...which he sank, to his credit...so while it looked good, don't get carried away because it was MJ...
Yeah and I remember Iverson lit up Chicago with 37 that game as well. Yeah that move to me is a classic moment of a new era in the NBA. Iverson's rookie year was my favorite year of his. Dude was just raw, quick, and the killer cross.
ahhh..not that great of a crossover..plus they lost
I think that they are great players go to myspace Wiggsplittaz Memphis,Tn to let us know how Tha Wiggsplittaz music sound
yea that was when philly was doing it...shiddd..they bums now.
The only difference in that move and hip hop is that young dudes today have no respect. You know Iverson got respect for MJ and by doing that, he showed the league is ready for something new, but today, these clowns disrespect real easy for a check and a name.
AI sounded lyk he won a ring or somethin, but MJ was the GOAT n even AI admitted it. Too bad he still got no ring after yrs of playin in da league.
he cant do it no mo
