Ayo, I love me a big fight and this Sugar Shane Mosley vs. Miguel Cotto bout has all the indications to be a big one.
I think promoters were right on the money, when they billed this fight, Fast & The Furious.
Obviously, fast being Sugar Shane and Furious - Miguel Cotto.
So, how's this fight going to go?
For starters, yes this fight will take place in Madison Square Garden, but make no mistakes about it... Cotto will have home advantage. That's because any time a Puerto Rican fighter fights at the Garden, Puerto Ricans come out in full force to support their man. And with PR flags waving, I guarantee Cotto is going to hit Shane... and HARD to the crowd's delight.
We know Shane will use his speed, but ironically Mosley has been telling interviewers - like Hot 97's Miss Jones - that he will square up and fight Cotto straight up to put on a good show for the NYC fans.
Uhh... dude just might be saying that to hype up PPV sales because if he really slugs it out with Cotto, he could wind up on his back, 1-10 and done. For real... Cotto's punches ain't no joke.
But I will say this about Shane Mosley... just because a grown man has the word 'Sugar' in front of his name, doesn't mean the fella's a lil' sweet. Real talk... when he wants to be, Sugar Shane has been one of the coldest fighters of our era.
Although he couldn't beat Vernon Forrest or Winky Wright, dude does have two wins over Oscar De La Hoya (even though the second one was suspect) and one over Fernando Vargas - even though Cotto would destroy Vargas.
Cotto's hard to break down and he'll break down his opponent gradually... like he did Zab.
...man, I ain't doing a good job selling Shane, but I think dude can win this fight by decision if he pumps the jab, works in his underrated left hook to the body and STAYS OUTSIDE, but I'm pulling for Cotto. I wanna see a knockout!

I am not a BIG Shane or Cotto fan, but Shane has an edge or two over Cotto. He has more experience in major fights and has taken some severe blows from bigger fighters so the body punches from Cotto won't be as big of a factor as people think. As long as Shane moves, jab and psyche Cotto out he's a winner in 12. Cotto better stalk Shane and cut off the ring and utilize more than body shots and body/head combos. He's gott rough Shane up and keep his back on the ropes if he wants to leave MSG a winner. Whoever wins this fight wil have to face PBFM, Jr.
i'm not sure i even give a fuck about this fight..... is it free or some PPV shit? i know i wouldn't pay for this one..... Boxing has lost alot of it's personality, and the one's who have it, come across as trying too hard..
Big time fight fan...Should be a good matchup as they both have similar styles and neither one has one-punch knock out power.
Being that Mosley is based out of the west coast and NYC has a huge PR population the crowd should be behind Cotto. His management team has been grooming him for some time and this is his second big time fight in the Garden.
It's not going to easy for either one of these guys, but I think Mosley will win because of his experience and he's more battle test than Cotto. It should be a very good fight, two guys who are more than just fighters but also have the heart to slug it out in the middle of the ring.
My predection is Mosley wins a split decision much to the dismay of the large pro-PR crowd.

hears y. he's stronger (got KO power at 154 and this fight is at 147), faster, durable, doesn't run out of gas, he's more technical boxer. in every category sugar is better than cotto. it's still goin to be a great fight because cotto is a beast but sugar got this 1. can't wait. i say it goes the 12 and shane by KO (cotto's chin is suspect)

Cotto is going to end mosley. I have tickets for the fight. Mosley looked terrible in his last few fights. the fight to watch tho is HATTON VS. MAYWEATHER.

Cotto would not have gone by Zab had it not been for those 2 low blows, every time Zab had him hurt, Cotto threw them, they were intentional.

Cotto's chin is suspect, he doesn't have knock out power and he hasn't fought top-flight competition. Mosely has a better chin than Mosely, but doesn't have knock out power either and has fought better competition than Cotto.
It's should be a very good fight because both fighters are evenly matched, but I think Mosely will win because he's more experienced.
Miguel cotto is gonna eat em up with those body shots, their is no way shane can take those body shots even tho he put on a real good performance against fernando vargas and knocked him out, i dont think he can handle miguel cotto. It will be a good one tho.

Cotto's chin is suspect. He's young and hungry though. A helluva body puncher, and has a lot of heart. Shane is a really good boxer, fast, strong (not as strong as cotto) and has experience. Whoever that dumb cat was that said Mosely's last fights were garbo, obviously doesn't watch boxing. Mosely's last fights were a TKO over Vargas, a KO in the rematch, and a boxing clinic over a young hungry southpaw. If Mosely goes toe-2-toe its a wrap. But if he uses his speed, keeps his distance, and goes for a boxing match he as a very good chance. The more rounds, the worst it is for Sugar, so he better have a pretty good game plan.

I think definetely cotto has more power but I think sugar shane we beat him due to his quickness. But if he gets sloppy he can get dropped

Listen man...I've been following Cotto his whole career. I'm not saying Cotto is a bad fighter, but I am saying that he doesn't have one punch knock out power because most of his fights end by decision. Also he hasn't fought the same level of competition that Mosley has, Bob Arum has been very selective with who he puts Cotto in the ring with because he doesn't want him getting exposed and losing a fight to someone he should be better than. All fighters do it, it's the way the game is played. But that doesn't take away from the fact that despite their records Mosley has more experience vs. better fighters than Cotto does and should help him win what I think will be a close fight. Plus factor in that Mosley's window of opportunity for big money fights is closing, he has kids & family to support, Shane's going to more motivated to win than Cotto, imo.
But know that I think about some more I think that Cotto will win on a split decision, even though Mosley will probably be the better fighter that night. Boxing is crooked as fuck, it's all about who's in control and this is a Arum/De La Hoya Production right? I think Arum's guy wins the fight in a split decision with one judge having some crazy score that just doesn't make sense, shit happens all the time in boxing.
