R&B @ The Oscars: Beyonce, John Legend, Queen Latifah and Alicia Keys Rep for the Soul Singing Set

I don't know about you but I was lovin the Oscars last night. The 81st Academy Awards went down at L.A.'s Kodak Theatre Sunday evening and R&B was definitely in the building. After skipping the Grammy's, Beyonce brought her Dereon gown to the show, Alicia showed off what a little hard work in the gym can do for her legs and Queen Latifah delivered just like she always does.
Slumdog Millionaire pretty much swept the evening. I love him to death, but honestly I thought the John Legend meets Slumdog number could have benefitted from M.I.A. Other than that the Oscar performances were really strong.
What did you guys think of Beyonce's performance?
I know folks are ready to be critics, but I think she rocked it out. It had to be great for both her and show producer Bill Condon to be working together on this one after he directed her in Dreamgirls.
And clearly the Academy loves some Queen Latifah. The former Best Supporting Actress Nominee (for Chicago) hit the stage to sing "I'll Be Seeing You" for the In Memoriam number as a tribute to the Academy's recent dearly departed... No vids on the net for that one yet, but you know I'm looking. Here she is though talking about being nominated and being part of the Best Picture winning film:
I loved her performance, glad the Academy has been so supportive of her singing. It seems like the logical progression for our musicians has been Hollywood and Broadway -- definitely makes sense to diversify!
Alicia Keys was also onhand at the 81st Academy Awards to present. No song or piano though! I guess they asked her because she's been doing so much acting lately. She did pretty good in the Secret Life of Bees, better than Nanny Diaries and Smokin' Aces. Hope you're in the studio cooking up some new stuff Alicia.

No I didn't watch the Oscar because awards show like that usually be so boring. I think Alicia Keys looked great and I can't believe people are taking Queen Latifah singing seriously. It seem like she forgot all of her hip hop roots.

Man Please!!! I haven't watched the Oscars since Jaime Foxx won for Ray...And before that, it was when Dezel and Halle won on the same night....The Oscars are so fucking lame and boring..Even though Taraji Henson was nomiated, I knew she wasn't going to win, so I passed on it all together..Not to mention that Beyiatch was performing and can't seem to escape this bitch for nothing...
@ Sasha Fierce...Bitch, shut the fuck up, cause they asked Queen Latifah to sing too...And Beyonce will never in her life be nominated for an Oscar, so you those words should not have even uttered out of your mouth...
ON ANOTHER NOTE......YA'LL GO SEE "MADEA GOES TO JAIL"... THAT MOVIE IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS, MELODRAMATIC. Keisha Knight Pullman and the dude that played Diddy in NOTORIOUS does a great job...I practically fell in love with Rudy in 1 night just by her playing that part...Tyler Perrry is a genious...It's very hard to pull of jokes related to religion with out affending anyone's faith or religion. But Perry, has pulled it off time and time again with brilliance...And he doesn't seem to be falling off or selling out, like a lot of people would think....Which brings me to my next question...WTF ever happened to The Hughes brothers and John Singleton.????

I'm just now seeing the Beyonce wateva that was and all I have that say is...what the hell was that? I mean really was the Oscars that desperate to get Beyonce to do something, that they put that crap together. I'm surprise she even said yes to that mess.

Beyonce was flawless as always. No other female singer could have got up there and done that even if it was lip synched. Not Etta, Alicia, Mary, Aretha, or Rihanna. (Maybe Christina...but she cant see Queen Bey.) My girl is a true entertainer. She doesnt just stand there all the time or sit behind a piano...
Beyonce performance was allright nothing spectacular but it wasn't that bad. I would have given it higher marks has she sang live. Oh well.
The dress on the other hand was a hot ghetto ass mess. I see now why she skips past wearing Dereon. Beyonce, keep skippin.
Alicia look good. Wasn't crazy about the color of the dress, but still not bad.
I liked Queen Latifahs dress. The overall look was great.
