By now you've probably seen the New Year's Eve pictures of Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Nick Cannon, and L.A. and Erica Reid partying it up in St. Barth's but it turns out that it wasn't all play for the entertainers, particularly Carey, who is rumored to have earned a whopping $1 million to sing a few songs.
You read me right - A milli for Mariah to sing a four song set. I thought we were in a recession??? I guess not everybody huh.
According to the New York Daily News' Rush & Molloy Libyan strongman Moammar Khadafy's son Saif paid Mariah Carey a small fortune to perform at his New Year's Eve party on St. Bart's. One spy says Carey's three or four songs at the Nikki Beach Club set
Saif back about $1 million. Carey's rep said she didn't know whether Khadafy paid Carey.
After counting down the seconds to midnight, Carey turned over the mike to Timbaland, who did some impromptu rapping with party guest Jay-Z.
So if I read this right, Mariah Carey was paid a million to sing 4 songs, while Hov gave up some exclusive freestyles for FREE???? Now that's crazy. Based on the rep's "I don't know" answer. I'm thinking Mariah definitely cleaned up. Now that explains why she was willing to share the paparazzi spotlight with Beyonce. :-)
If you had the dough who would you pay a million to watch? I think I'd have to go for a private set with D'Angelo or Maxwell. Actually both of them have been away so long I ought to get them both for that price. LOL.
And in further Mariah/Beyonce news, it's looking like neither of the divas is expecting:
This bump watch business is getting old. Mariah will probably get a surrogate to carry her baby anyway. She strikes me as the type. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm not one to judge...
And in even further Mariah news, it looks like 2009 may bring about a musical based on her life.
According to the Daily Mirror, Mariah is looking to bring her life story to the Broadway stage and she's leaning toward British singer Leona Lewis to play her. A spokeswoman has confirmed: "Mariah is in talks for a Broadway musical to be made about her life in 2009."
A Broadway show about Mimi? That would probably work, that book Bling seemed like it was loosely based on her and it was pretty popular. I don't know if Leona Lewis has that same spunkiness that Mariah has though. What do you think? If Christina Milian had a bigger range I'd think her the better fit. Leona definitely has the look and the voice though.
