As I'm sure many of you heard by now Beyonce made a brief appearance at Friday's Madison Square Garden stop on the Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige "Heart of the City" Tour. Take a look...
I wonder if there will ever come a day when that dance gets as old as the phrase "Bootylicious". ..

I was in the house last night, at Detroit's Fox Theater, when Erykah Badu kicked off "The Vortex Tour,” her twelve-week, 49-city, 42-show tour which ends June 15th in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I urge you to get tickets if you haven't yet -- if you are an Erykah fan (which I am) it will make your night. If you only know her hits (like my cousin, who was my guest) you still won't be disappointed.
The Roots are currently opening for Ms. Badu and they got the crowd hyped as they always do. There was an extended intermission between the two sets -- I assume to prepare the stage for Erykah's set -- complete with some pretty magical light changes, four kimono and obi-wrapped background singers and Badu's 7 member band -- who were pretty amazing artists themselves.
After an extremely extended introlude Erykah arrived onstage swathed in a black strapless tiered dress and crowned with her signature voluminous afro singing "Amerykahn Promise" which lead to "The Healer" next she went into a number that I think must be called "Annie Don't Wear No Panties" which I wasn't familiar with but it was pretty funny, especially with her choreography. There were some moments when the band almost stole the show -- especially the flute player who figured prominently into "Kiss Me On My Neck," but Badu did a great job of keeping the focus on her -- striking diva poses and making faces. By the time she got to "On and On" people were up dancing in the aisles.
When she finished "Otherside Of The Game" Erykah addressed the crowd, talking about "the game" before leading into "Block on Lock" which made the audience go wild. Then the band freaked the hell out of "Apple Tree" added some electronica elements and some 808, that ish was nuts. Of course she did "Tyrone" after which she had the nerve to leave the stage -- she came back to do her encore in some leggings and a black tee shirt, wigless with her stocking cap on to do "Green Eyes" and then in the middle of "Bag Lady" she jumped into the audience to sing. Pretty nuts. I was kind of disappointed she didn't do "Honey" but to say I had a great evening is an understatement.

SoulRebel, "annie" is the song Erykah sings in the middle of the Honey video-the homage to Hey Ya!. Did she perform all ten minutes of Green Eyes or just the first part?
0731 she sang the WHOOOOOOOOLE thing. She went into it -- she stretched that mug out and her expressions were PRICELESS.
tight. I might have to go check her out.
I got tickets to her L.A. show. Can't wait. Shit's gonna be bomb!
I wonder if there will ever come a day when that dance gets as old as the phrase "Bootylicious".
