Solange Preps Album for August, Amanda Diva is a Supa Woman+ Is Mario A Gigolo?

The video for Solange's single "I Decided" was shot in Los Angeles yesterday. No I don't have any pictures from the shoot but I did get a press release about the album. For all you Solo fans -- her second album SoL-AngeL and The Hadley Street Dreams will be released August 26th on Geffen Records through Music World Entertainment.

The video was directed by one of B's fave's Melina and it promises to stay true to Solange's free spirit personality. It's being described as "The ultimate pop art piece. Its psychedelic, it's adventurous, it's colorful and not so colorful, it's intelligent, and it's the inner makings of Solange... The "I Decided" video deals with pop culture from the 60s to the future. It displays SoL-AngeL in settings from American Bandstand, to the Civil Rights Movement, to New Wave, and finally a "Cosmic Journey" future.

Hmm sounds interesting.

Solange's cohorts on the project are a virtual Who's Who of music's best and bizarrest (if that's a word) including Cee-Lo who helped Solo write and record 'T.O.N.Y' and 'Sandcastle Disco' (produced by Soul Shock), producer Jack 'Splash' who produced 'T.O.N.Y, 'Would've Been the One' and 'Ode To Marvin,' Solo's take on Marvin Gaye's classic 'What's Going On.' Pharrell produced "I Decided," Lil Wayne makes an "intoxicated appearance" on "Champagnechronicnightcap," Bilal helps write and appears on "Cosmic Journey" and "Wanna Go Back," which also features Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry, Raphael Saddiq produces the soulfully insightful, "Same Song, Different Man," which features Estelle. Q-Tip, Mark Ronson, and Lamont Dozier also pitched in.

Whoa. With that many cooks in the kitchen, Solange is either coming at us with a masterpiece or a hot mess. Which do you think it will be?

Alright so for those of you who are not familiar with Amanda Diva -- she's one of those renaissance women who has managed to straddle hip-hop, poetry and soul music all at the same time. She's been on Def Poetry Jam twice, toured with Floetry as part of Floetry on the Floetry Remix Tour and toured with Lupe Fiasco, hosted a Sirius Satellite show, commentated for VH1's "Best Week Ever" and been a host on MTV2 -- and she has a Masters Degree from Columbia. I'm sure I probably left something out but you get the point. She's accomplished.

Her latest accomplishment is a new EP Life Experience Check out the current single "Supa Woman"

Y'all know I got a soft spot for Mario. He and Karina did the Rumba this week with her wearing what looked like her underwear and a sheet and him sporting his trademark snug ballroom pants. The pair did the very sexy dance to one of the most soulless renditions of "Let's Get It On" that I've ever heard and were rewarded by Len Goodman calling them a "GIGOLO" and a "STRUMPET". Peep the vid below:

What do you think? Was Goodman out of line?

That's it for now... be back with more later. Talk to me y'all!

  • Mario is too over the top and dramatic, why does he have to exaggerate every movement.

I though everyone hated Amanda Diva after she stood in after Natalie left.

I'm liking Solange this time around, i hope she includes ChampagneChronicNightCap without the Wayne ... i like it better without him.

  • Recently, quite a few celebrities and pro athletes were said to appear on the millionaire luxury club "Wealthy Kiss.c o m" to
hook up with hot girs and models. OMG!!! Are these famous guys fond of internet dating for now?? Maybe they are indeed so rich that they feel boring sometimes to need new things?

  • Im anticipating this solange album but Im afraid that she has too many "guests"... also, im not sure if solange can be considered a "deep" artist but i guess we shall see... i will be getting the album regardless... ummm amanda diva is ok i guess, after the whole floetry thing I thought no one would care about her again...i heard her some of her material before and I really dont like her singing, basically the jury is still out on her....

  • Clearly Carrie-Ann hasnt had good sex; anywho, I'm gonna co-sign a bit with Dev, Mario does do too much sometimes, but it was still a good performance, he put on a good show. Champagnecronicnightcap was (IS) my joint, I still play it...I like her rotation of help on her album, I love just about anything with Raphael Saadiq's stamp on it, and her album cover is fire, she looks real good

  • Solange sucks ass, hot producers and other artists won't make her hot. Just expose how weak her shitty voice & lyrics are. I'll NEVER be checking for her. Amanda Diva sucks too... must be a slow news day Rebel, I feel for ya. Mario is my negro, the baddest male singer of my generation.
