R.I.P. Marvin Gaye (April 2, 1939-April 1, 1984)
One of my favorite singers of all times, I LOVE his stuff with Tammi Terrell, Here My Dear makes me almost afraid to love and "What's Goin' On" is just as relevant today as it was when he made it. If you don't know this man's music -- definitely get to know it. You know I had to post some live performances in honor of the man who passed 24 years ago today.
"What's Goin' On/ What's Happenin' Brother" (Video excerpted from "Real Thing: In Performance 1964-1981" DVD)
"Got To Give It Up" Live in Montreux 1980
Onto more modern sensitive souls -- It just wouldn't be right not to shine a light on the latest leak from the other Knowles sister.
In case we didn't get the memo that she's "different," "not her sister," and just simply "misunderstood" she wants to make sure we know now. And despite the protestations at the end, I'm willing to betcha Solo knows where to find the OG Kush.
Making Solange sound absolutely fabulous today is Bobby Valentino aka Short-Guy-That-Fell-Off-Bigtime proving that Lil' Wayne can't save everything with his cut "Your Smile" ft. Weezy
Soooo what's your favorite Marvin hit? Is Solange EVER gonna get her due? Does Bobby V need to hang it up? Talk to me y'all!

Sippin on haterade much today? C'mon, Bobby V makes one aight song & he hasta hang it up?! Sexy Girl & You Are Not Alone both came out recently and were both hot. His last CD was niiiice. Hes one of the better/unique R&B guys out there now.
Okay first, sorry to the above poster, but Bobby V has never been hot, and that's not haterade, but whatev! On to the topic at hand - Distant Lover - jesus when I hear that intro I'm just done...when he says "My god, my god, do you want to hear me scream, plead, please....whoow! I'm like AJ Johnson in Baby Boy - "Marvin, Marvin, Jody? Please believe it!"
"What's Goin On" is one of the best pieces of music ever created....so yeah thats my fav.
"Mercy Mercy me"...a close 2nd

I like Solange.. for sum reason
man..excellent post today...it's so many hits the man came with...i'd have to say "Just to Keep You Satisfied"...."What's Goin' On".."Your Smile"...of course "sexual Healing"....Marvin was a genius..
That Solange cut is straight...you can't help but hear Beyonce in her voice...that's just how it is...she sounds like her, which isn't a bad thing, but it's makin' it hard for her..but if she finds her niche she'll be aiight....
R.I.P to the man that j.holiday wishes he can be lol, "whats going on" and "i want u" are my two most favorite marvin gaye songs, good looks soulrebel! umm Im anticipating the solange album but some of her songs can be sung better by someone else, including this one lol... I still think it will be hotness tho just cuz shes working with my man bilal... bobby v is cool, he just needs a lil more "umph", hes missing something
Solange's voice is 99% the same to Beyonce's.
PLEASE that's all we need.. another "B".
Wow can't see why people would hate on BV. His last cd was good. IMO better than J Holidays. To me what it lacked was ringtone value or club songs. And oh yeah promotion. His music has been good I can't listen to the song at hand cause it I'm at work but I still jam his cds. Marvin I have a good collection of so he will always be remembered. Solange I just can't get over the fact B's sister. Sooner or later the world may except her for her but most of the time it's hard to come out of your siblings shadow without doing anything drastic ie Ray J
whats goin on is one of marvin gaye best song, and that bobby v song is pretty good, by the way check out this blog for update on music and more: http://djtriumph.blogspot.com
Umm Ya girl got a mad lisp!
come by and check out kanye west's newest video homecoming at www.thewb39.blogspot.com
Trouble Man & Distant Lover are my favorite Marvin Gaye songs. Marvin coulda got it 24 yrs ago, I was like 4 but damnit he coulda got it.
Solonge could make her own niche, but she would have to go more of the soulful route. the pop area is monopolized by beyonce.
NEW Beyonce Kick'em out and Keri Hilson songs and more: http://djtriumph.blogspot.com
I'm gonna have to go with "I want you" as my fav Marvin track. that track stays in constant rotation
check out my song "outta my mind" with a Marvin Gaye sample

I love Marvin Gaye, his songs are so inspiring. "What's going on" is my fav. He sang about world peace and we need more of that. I like the route Solange is taking, she's bringing something different to rnb. Bobby v. should keep doing his thing. He should do more babyface type songs.
RIP Marvin...Your heart, love, message and music will last forever. You are the music of my heart.
If "What's Going On" was written at any time during the past few years in this country (FU GWB!) it would still have the same amazingly powerful impact.
"If I should die tonight, ahhh baby
I just want you to keep this thought in mind
That I would never die blue...
'Cause I've known you
Oooh!!"
Thank you Marvin, Thank you.
Hard 2 appreciate Bobby V after chillin' wit' Marvin Gaye. R.I.P. Brotha Marvin! His craft remains untouchable...kinda knocks the majority of 2days RNB/Soul artists outta the ball park...although I doubt that was Marvin's intention.
My best marvin joint - What's Goin On & Got 2 Give It Up
The only thing I gotta say about Solange is th@ it appears no one got anywhere for long waiting for the current Hot-Thing to cool off in the RNB/Soul industry - grind th@ axe Baby Girl
Marvin is the shit.... R.I.P, my 2nd favorite male artist
Solange sound like Beyonce a little and why did she have to say she wasn't high at the end ? Was she feeling guilty about something ?
That Bobby Valentino's song is nice. I like it.
