Remembering MLK, Sean Levert & Marvin Gaye + Soulful Tribute Mix

Posted on April 7, 2008 11:20 AM

Friday marked the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination (April 4th, 1968) and I spent a lot of time this weekend watching tribute footage -- the History channel ran a great two hour special and I also enjoyed VH1's "The Night James Brown Saved Boston". I'm posting part 1 of the latter as well as my favorite girl, Nina Simone, singing her tribute "Why (The King of Love Is Dead)"

I got a request last week to post a tribute to Sean Levert, whose death is still being investigated, after passing last Sunday following his falling ill while serving a sentence in an Ohio jail.

I came across this 1995 appearance of Sean, Gerald & Eddie Levert performing on "Video Soul".

I also had to post this video

Eddie & Gerald Levert "Already Missing You"

Rest in Peace to Sean & Gerald Levert -- prayers go out to the Levert family.

Last but not least, DJ Parler has blessed SOHH Souful with another dope mix -- this time it's a tribute to Marvin Gaye, who we remembered last week for both his birthday as well as his tragic passing.

  • Dope Mix Soul Rebel and DJ Parler.

I'll be playing this while I'm at the gym.

***although I'm a little sad the DJ did add my favorite Marvin Jam..."I Want U"...but it's all good lol.

    Thanks again.

Good look on the tribute to Sean Levert. Man, oh man, Eddie Levert's had it hard for the past couple years. First Gerald and now Sean...damn! R.I.P. to both and my prayers are with him and his family.

R.I.P. to the other greats as well: MLK, James Brown, and Marvin Gaye.
