Omarion Left In the Cold, Jordin Sidelined Til May, Soul Train: THE MOVIE On The Way???

Posted on April 22, 2008 10:00 AM

I can't say I'm a big Omarion fan (though he tried to get me with that "Icebox" business though) but after hearing he's been dropped by Columbia Records I feel kinda bad for him. With the Soul Train Awards also getting yanked, I figured it was only fitting to post this "Icebox" performance.

Corny as he may be, there is no doubt O is a great entertainer. Jawn Murray at BlackVoices is speculating that he may land on his feet though -- possibly at Capitol or Motown records.

Speaking of the Soul Train Awards -- yes the 22nd Annual Awards show has been canned. A lot of the media is blaming it on the lack of attendance by bigger name performers, but the show's official spiel is that the writers strike made it impossible to confirm honorees. The show will go on for Don Cornelius tho -- he's teaming up with Warner Brothers to make Soul Train: The Movie.

Here's the synopsis: Currently titled Soul Train: The Movie, the project is a buddy comedy revolving around two male dancers on the show who get into "a lot of good stuff and some bad stuff as well." Cornelius says the film will have lots of music and comedy, only a little violence, and will be "more than slightly sensual" because, "Soul Train has always been about sexuality." If all goes well, Cornelius hopes the film will spawn multiple sequels.

Ummm. I'm not seeing good things for the future of this movie. Doesn't help that it rhymes with Soul Plane.

Might work better for Don if he took some cues from this "In Living Color" skit instead...

Like Toni Braxton, Jordin Sparks has been benched for the month of April.

As SOHH's news dept. reported yesterday the singer suffered an acute vocal chord hemorrhage and is now on serious vocal rest. Dang Jordin, "it was all good just a week ago!"

The female singers are having it rough with their health between Janet's flu/bronchitis, Toni's breathing/heart problems/chest pain and now Sparks' hemorrhaged vocal chords. I wish her a speedy recovery...

What's the verdict on Omarion? Is he a wrap or does he have plenty of career left at a new label? Would you go see Soul Train: The Movie? Will you miss the Soul Train Awards? Talk to me y'all!

  • I knew that teaming up with Bow Wow wouldn't be a good look for Omarion... If it didn't work for Jay-Z and R.Kelly I don't know what made them think they could pull it off. They should've just kept touring together and making those little teenage girls go crazy.

21 had some solid tracks, it was a big improvement over O in my opinion, I thought he was about to do something big with his next album. I hope he ends up back at Epic.

There's no doubt the boy can entertain, just watch the O video.

    Let me hear ya scream...

  • Omarion was on Epic(or at least his last solo was) If he got drop, he should leave Sony all together. Motown wouldn't be a good look. Their promo bites. Motown only backs artist who can do Gold all the time. That's why You only hear from Badu, India and that White guy with the dope voice(For got his name)- An act like him should go To Jive,Alantic or even Capitol(They like R&B)

  • I think Omarion will be fine and get another major deal.

Don C. needs to stop lying and putting these bastards on blast. The show was cancelled because the A-listers turned their back on the show. As far as the movie, I'm not interested.

  • That B2K reunion doesn't sound to far fetched now. O will get picked up tho by a powerhouse record label like jive or atlantic. He will be going in a new direction and the Bow and O album did work out well because they have a tour coming up in the summer. Sorry to hear about Jordin. Looks like Ashanti is going to be taking her place.
