Soulman put it out there in January but it looks like -- Brandy has indeed signed with Epic Records There is definitely a new album in the works -- I'm working on getting y'all some exclusive information from one of the producers on the project within the next week or so so be on the lookout. In the meantime here's B-Rocka's cover of Phil Collins song "Another Day in Paradise" featuring her freaky lil brother Ray J

Since we're talking about the lil sex machine anyway -- what do y'all think of Ray J's song "Boyfriend" -- you know -- the one they're saying is about Whitney Houston?

The song is alright to me, but damn, kinda cold to be talkin about bonin' folks' wives and ish, don'tcha think?

I came across this video of Mya dancing on CBS' "Secret Talents of The Stars" (that show you probably never saw because they only aired one episode before CBS cancelled it) last week and wanted to share it. While they're kinda wrong for dubbing this as a secret talent since she's appeared in the film and stage versions of "Chicago" dancing -- I think despite all the flack she gets on the music tip, this performance is just another sign that Mya still has a looooooooong entertainment career ahead of her.

Oh and for all Mariah's "lambs" don't forget to Tivo Oprah today

Who would you guys like to see work with Brandy next? Thoughts on Ray J's song? Anybody still waiting on Mya's new project (just askin')? Talk to me y'all!!!

  • What's good Soul Rebel! I have to say Brandy is one of my favorite artists. I have all four albums. She is one of the few artists than can work with just about any producer and make it her sound. She should get back w/Darkchild for this album. I would also like to see her work with Tricky, The-Dream, Polow, Swizz Beatz, and Stargate (as long as they don't give her a recycled "Irreplaceable" beat). Soul Rebel, who do you think she should work with?

  • 'Sup SoulRebel! Here I go...Brandy & Kanye laid MAD joints on B-Rocka's last album & like they say "when it aint broke..." All RNB Timbaland touches usually turns out gold in the end - so Imma put it out there and look for a Timbo/Brandy hook up. Pharrell got MAD CRAFT when the dude's focussed and they could wake RNB up with some FIYA co-production...shame there aint a female beatmaker doin' they shit rite now? Brandy - enlist the aid of Cri$tyle to twist the lyric? I dunno...that girl (Cri$tyle) got that golden touch at the moment B-Rocka! Come back Darkchild!!!

To be honest brother Ray has had moments of brilliance in past cameo's and singles - shit you can really bump to & appreciate. In this dude's opinion, Ray J's havin a hard time movin away from the image T-Pain got stuck in his head right now...'might help if the dude laid out a joint that wasn't 'Imma gon Bang U' 'I likes to f*ck'! This is not a niave statement about the sex grind in current RNB - it's a statement about a dude who believes he's about 'focussing on my positive talents' right now...

I miss the Mya of the late 90's & early 2000's. You know? It's All About Me! Free! Lady Marmalade...that collabo with Ma$e - OFF THE CHAIN! Watchin' that clip of her doin' the 'tap' routine ain't quite right! Mya has always been able to move...hell - she did a dance-thing for Janet not that long ago and RIPPED IT UP!!! Bring back the singin', movin' & interesting artist - not the shadow of her former self-Mya!!!

  • Mya will probably do fine I bet she goes platinum worldwide, most people probably don't know it but shes sold around 8 million records worldwide off of three CD's and she hasn't had a release in a few (except that one that got leaked recently) and even that became just a digital download album. The fanbase is there for her.

  • Oh nd as far as Ray J and Brandy, they've both been sub-par talent. In R&B you need a beautiful voice or showmanship. An if you have either than a label will back you with the best song writers. Brandy was a young un' singing songs for the young uns' when she was hot. Thats over now, she got kids and Brandy at Brandy no more. She was never hot because she could sing. And as far as Ray J goes...he ruined his singing career by stading by the tape the way he did. It wasn't a bad thing being proud of Kim K slobbing you up...he was never really a popular singer anyway and I think that tape may have been a turn-off for most women as far as his music goes. Take my advice go get you a contract and make you a orn mini-series. Like Ray-J and College Co-eds or something. Nobody's buying his album.

Mya's first two cds was and still is my shit, I think she does have the fanbase, but Liberation was her worse release yet... she needs to hit the studio pronto!

  • Wow lots of topics in this blog

Brandy: The fanbase and talent are there. Lots of people my age (mid-20s) still have very found memories of Brandy from the 90s and from her TVs and Movies. The right sound and right marketing cause easily push Brandy to plat at least. I do feel like her last album got lost in the shuffle though between Beyonce and I believe Ashanti. It would be best if she did NOT release when Beyonce or Keyshia Cole releases cause they are like black holes. I think of EPIC as Mike Jackson's label although I can't think of any recent R&B artist who have been successful over there. Also I think her and Rodney Jerkins are made for each other. I think she should avoid Timbo cause he's getting a little played out. I also would like to see her work with Ne-Yo or Dream

Ray-J: WACK and always has been. He has no real musical talent so he has to exploit his sex life. He will perpetually be "Brandy's brother"

Mya: I feel like Mya needs great handlers. Notice how her first two albums when she was younger were solid and embraced while her last two have flopped. The talent is there but she doesn't have the identity and drive to craft what her projects are. Plus there is nothing really special about her. She just fits into the mold that Brandy, Monica, and Aaliyah created. Mya needs a Clive Davis or a Jermaine Dupri to hold her hand in a project.

  • I gotta head myself calling Brandy sub-par talent thats not true, but what I do believe is that her sound won't sell like it use to. The women who are makning the most sales in R&B are the the dancing type. I do think we can mostly agree that Rihanna can't sing as well as Brandy and maybe even Ciara for that matter. But their ability to entertain still captivates the crowds, Beyonce' but I think she's a dynamite singer though. Then of course Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige can sing as well and they continue to thrive. I think that Brandy falls into the middle of the road category where she can definetly carry a tune but I'd be surprised if her numbers weren't around Erykah Badu type numbers at this point. Than fanbase will have to support because I'm not sure she'll got a lot of new fans since her sound isn't quite the times. But Ray-J is still Ray-J and he will probably continue to be Brandy's little brother.

  • Brandy: She needs a great producer to vibe off of like Janet needs Jimmy & Terry, Amerie needs Rich Harrison and so forth. I'd like to hear her and Darkchild do it again but don't go crazy with the computer effects, makes her sound like female T Pain. No more Timbo & Brandy, their songs sound like Aaliyah leftovers... I don't know who could work with Brandy since she's a unique talent. Dig This is your average R&B song and she couldn't deliver so its obvious she needs strong beats and a great producer.

Ray J: a fucking lame living off his sister's success

Mya: I agree she needs a handler to help her create albums and she also needs to just stick to pop. R&B was never checking for her, she'd sell more if she go pop like Beyonce. Free & Case of the Ex are still her best songs.

Mimi: her new album sucks so bad, only half are decent/tolerable and thats being nice cuz I'ma hardcore fan... very disappointed

  • Can't wait for the new Brandy record. She should stick with Timbaland and Kanye because Afrodisiac was her best album since Never Say Never.

  • I think Brandy is suffering the same fate as Monica and Mya. I just dont think they created enough of a niche for themselves in R&B when they were successful and now with the newbies (Ashanti, Beyonce, Rihanna, etc.) on the scene it's harder. Esp. when these new artists seemingly have taken R&B or Pop&B to the next level.

But in this game anything is possible. Looking forward to hearing her new stuff.

I want to see MC on Oprah. May not be a big fan of this latest cd but I do like watching this "chick". She need a reality show.

  • Definitely looking forward to that Brandy comeback...she's one of the best R&B artists out there and she always brings something new. And in regards to what ELIAKIM said...bite your damn tongue when you don't know what the hell you talkin about. Brandy sold because the girl can SING. If you don't believe she can sing then you need to go listen to "When You Touch Me" and "Nothing" off of the Full Moon album. Those two ballads shit on anything any female R&B artist has put out within the past five years. I hate when people talk shit and they don't even know what they talkin about.
