Get Live! Performance Vids From Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z & Janelle Monae

As long as we're on the subject of veterans who are continuing to do the damn thing...

Can we talk about this woman?

I caught this clip of Mary & Jay-Z at their Letterman appearance last week and fell in love with their performance of "Can't Knock The Hustle" which you can watch below (sorry about the lengthy interview that precedes but Hov's description of his failed tour with R.Kelly totally makes it worth it)

Maybe it's just me, but it was good to see Mary get her swag on -- Queen of Hip-Hop Soul still rockin like the days of "Real Love" . Hmmm maybe I'm up for a full collabo album after all.

P.S. At their joint concert in Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday night, Mary J. Blige congratulated Jay-Z on his marriage to Beyonce the previous evening (source: perezhilton.com).

Last week (4/3), the same man who brought us Mary, Sean "Diddy" Combs, brought out his newest addition to Bad Boy Records, Janelle Monae at New York's Blender Theater and the man laid it on thick!!!

"I've been blessed with artists like Jodeci, Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J.Blige in the past, but this artist right here ... you've just got to see it to believe it. I don't know if you ever felt the Holy Ghost, but that's the only feeling you're going to feel tonight."

"This is possibly the most important signing of my career," Combs continued. "I thank God for blessing me with an artist like Janelle Monae. Now, are y'all ready to go to church?" (quotes via Billboard)

"Violet Stars Happy Hunting"

"Killing Me Softly"

Janelle Monae is signed to Bad Boy via her own Wondaland Arts Society imprint. Look for Janelle Monae's EP, "Metropolis Suite," this June and her full album "Metropolis" (co-executive produced by Big Boi) in September.

I've been following her since her Purple Ribbon days, Diddy better not drop the ball on this one.

What y'all think? Mary still has it right? You think the world is ready for Janelle Monae? Talk to me y'all!

  • Thank You for the Mary Jay video!! David L is a FOOL! I love when they perform this and Song Cry! would it make sense for them to put out a live album with the aforementioned songs and You're Welcome and about 2 more new collabo songs or a full collabo with the live performance DVD or audio!! Something!

Rebel, seeing as you mentioned Madonna recently I wondered if you checked out her remix with Janet. BEYOND FIRE!!!!

I would have to co-sign that exactly. She's a phenom but I don't think I would quite put her in the class of Amy Winehouse. But like blogger said Diddy better not drop the ball with her---- from those comments he made ("most important signing of my career" from the guy who signed Biggie), his repututation as a music exec could be at stake.

I've see both Amy Winehouse and Janelle Monae in person and Janelle is clearly shitting on Amy. 1st of all they aren't even the same kind of artist so I don't really understand the comparisons(especially to mary J...lol) Janelle is far more talented and puts on a complete show including a theme, live music and dancing....She also writes ALL OF HER OWN MUSIC. But she'll still perform a few classics. I think Diidy honestly see's her as a Madonna or a Prince, if that turns out to be true then he's right she'd be much bigger than biggie because she has created a new form of music and style. Don't get it twisted I'm a true hiphop head but I'm a fan of music first and though he was a beast, Biggie was one dimensional.

  • Okay now this is a way better blog than the Madonna stuff. I like Mary J Blige performance with Jay-Z. Janelle Moore music isn't for me, it's on different level.

  • love mary. i also love Janelle been on her for a while, im kind of upset that bad boy snatched her up tho. Diddy dont know how to create longevity in his artist. She definatly is the most talented artist that hes signed in a REALLy long while! she almost doesnt fit with him at all. i hate him

  • Will this Janelle Monae chick be able to connect with her audience like Mary J. Blige and Biggie Smalls did? Sometimes its all in the chemistry that you have with your fans in addition to your many talents. I'm also not sure if Puffy is the best person for her career. Because if you really look at it Mary's career got bigger after Puffy, so did Usher's and BIG aint live long enough to stand the test of time. All of the other good artists on Bad Boy basically got shitted on (Faith Evans, Carl Thomas, etc.). I'm not that confident in Puffy's ability to groom an internationally big star that one can compare to the likes of Prince and Madonna. Puffy is no Quincy Jones. He doesn't even play an instrument.
