Cassie Wants to Be An "Official Girl," Keyshia Cole is Feelin The Game's "Pain" + Reminiscin' on Chaka Khan

Posted on April 21, 2008 10:00 AM

Diddy and his Sean John spokesmodel Cassie are back at it again. This puppy popped up on Livesteez.com this weekend with the two of them hyping up Cassie's new project and single.

Cassie is tired of being your Unofficial Girl. Her vocal skills are pretty tired too. :-( She's beautiful but this song shouldn't be played anywhere but junior high dances. This is definitely an upgrade from that "Thirsty" ish that leaked earlier though.

Keyshia Cole is becoming the go-to girl for new rap singles. After helping out Trina last month, Key-Key showed some Cali Love to The Game by blessing this lil gem right'chere which leads the way for his June 24th album L.A.X. - Los Angeles Times

I love this song. I like the idea of artists paying homage to other artists, Y'all heard Keyshia shout Mary J. right? I just don't get why they called it "Pain" though. I don't think I heard anybody say the word pain in the whole song. I'm listening to it for the 16th time to see if I missed it somewhere.

The first time I heard the song, for some reason the track put me in mind of Chaka Khan "Ain't Nobody"

And then that just reminded me of the days when a hip-hop/r&b collabo meant Chaka teaming up with Melle Mel

I figured while they were payin' homage I might as well do a lil reminiscin' too... I know I can't be the only one. What do you think about Cassie's single "Official Girl" and The Game ft. Keyshia Cole "Pain"? What are your favorite old-school r&b/hip-hop collabos?

Talk to me y'all!

  • Cassy is pretty... but not pretty enough to be holding down a record deal with that lame ass voice, actually, i've seen prettier girls on road. It's a shame that Diddy didn't invest the same time and effort on Cheri Dennis. Imagine going from Faith Evans to that

  • Whassup? Cassie is a little latina pretty face, but nu'n special. The Game shit should be called 'Payin' as that's a word that appears in the song. Is it me or is he jackin Nas' style on this one?

  • LOL @ people yawning and asking did I just start listening to music. Moresickamc actually I raised the title issue because it was strange to me that such an upbeat song had a title like "Pain" --- the song is primarily Game reminiscin on the music that inspired him, so where does the pain come in? Sometimes I make comments for the sake of generating conversation.

As for Blazinice um, you need to come better than that one -- Cassie's song may not be brand new but The Game's is practically fresh out the studio.

    Happy Monday folks

  • @Soul Rebel, please don't get in the habit (like Gyant) and start responding to every little thing some commenter says. At the end of the day, it's not worth it. Remember, it's just the Internet. Anyway, the problem with Cassie is the fact that she brings NOTHING to the table. She can't sing, she can't dance, she has no stage presence, she doesn't play an instrument, nothing. I just don't get why Diddy is forcing the public to listen to this chick. She must got that head game on lock. Why else would he invest so much time on somebody who brings absolutely nothing but a pretty face to the music industry? SMDH.

  • Cassie is a waste and shouldn't even be talked about. When she raise a skill on her singing level, then that's when I would want to hear some mess about her. It's good Keyshia Cole doing some new music. She is way better than Cassie will ever be.

  • My favorite Old School Hip-Hop/R&B Collab all includes Mary on the Singin tip:

'Whats the 411" With Grand Puba

    "All I Need" with Meth

shit add a lil Reggae in dat shit and "Dolly My Baby(remix)" would do.......

i enjoyed the "Freakin You" Wu-mix with Jodeci ft. Rae and Ghost as well ..........

honestly it's not alot of R&B/Hip-Hop tracks i felt outside of the late 90's.... anything beyond 2000 has been a blur that came and went with no signs of regret to remember. Probably just 'Hate it or Love it" remix with MJB, the rest is like an interchangeable ringtone to me.

  • I hear what you're saying Bigupid but it's not the voice that I was referring to -- it's the track that actually reminded me of "Ain't Nobody."
