Mariah Fills in for Sick Janet on SNL + Who Do You Stan For?

As you guys already know Janet Jackson picked a bad week to catch the flu. The illness caused her to cancel a scheduled appearance as the musical guest on SNL and guess who is now replacing her?
MARIAH CAREY!
What do y'all think about that? With both the ladies each carrying a huge following I couldn't help but think about how the fans would feel about this one.
Kinda got me thinking about something. Monday the claws came out at the suggestion that Ciara's remix has been of any help to Janet -- and I was forewarned that any word against Beyonce will invoke a similar response. Last week the Kelis fans in Europe had a shit fit when I suggested her new album The Hits (which drops today by the way) had been mistitled. So today I have a question to pose to you...

I try not to "STAN" for any artist. Stanning implies an unhealthy obsession with and artist. I am however a lifelong fan of Janet, Mary, BRANDY, Aaliyah, MJ and Prince. These are artist I grew up listening to, and whose music is forever apart of my life. I am a fan of music period, so there are many artist I love and admire, but those listed are my favorite. Kudos to Soulrebel for such an interesting topic. And BIG UP to all my fellow Brand and Janet fans in this thread!

I can't make you be a Janet fan, all I suggest is that you go back and listen to "control", "RN", "Janet." and "the velvet rope". Those albums are classics! "Control" and "Janet." are watershed moments that influenced the R&B chicks that followed those albums. It you put into context when those albums came out (late 80s/early90s) you will realize that no other R&B chick in the game was doing what janet did. Mixing urban beats with R&B polish, Janet did that first on the "control" album.
Many critics considered her the first New jack swing female artist because of that album! The whole Dance pop/R&B crossover genre that Cici, Rianna and Beyonce dominate today, Janet is pretty much responsible for. She was the one who opened doors for people like TLC, Brandy, Aaliyah and Kelis to experiment with their sound and not just stay in their R&B lanes. And don't even get me started on her impact on the music video! There is a reason Janet has stans.
Unlike a lot of these new chicks she's earned them and worked hard to keep them! So before you question why certain artist have a devoted following, learn their history on the game. You might be surprised to find out how much of an impact they had on the shit you listen to today!
And for the record, I like Teedra Moses and recognize her talents. But one of the reasons she might not have any "STANS" is because she isn't as established as the other females listed. I'm sure Tasia has stans but they just haven't posted yet. I would also like to add that Teedra Moses actually listed Janet as one of her influences. You'll be surprised who Janet has inspired. Sorry about the long post, but I just get a little offended when folks try to downplay Janet. I guess I'm STAN after all. lol

She's a mark of established, black, female success...with or without Michelle, Kelly & Jay - 'looks hot! Sounds great! Alicia sho' can sang! 'Always on top of her game, regardless of whoeva's doin whateva in the game. She was on FIYA in Smokin Aces! Brandy gave us sumthin' sumthin' every album! 'Still got her, YoYo, MC Lyte & Latifah on rotation from back-in-the-day...SOLID!
3. Mariah - 4 sho - MC can do her thing...I dunno...her sound is good but I still feel like I'm listening to 'Honey' or 'Always be my Baby' with her new joints? She's reminiscent of all the artists above - @ times, but each time I buy a new MC Album I'm hopeful it dn't sound like the last one...patiently waiting!

L.A read before typing, i wrote "Back in the day yeah" I think you need to remember that the Jackson surname opened a lot of doors for Janet and still does. All the artists that have made it have/ have had a record deal opened there own doors with there own talent, if Janet opened so man doors that all artists would sound like Janet. Now, Janet may have inspired a lot of current artists but i think it ends there. Many artists have had revolutionary periods, MJB - the 411, Aaliyah, Brandy Monica heading the whole teen pack back in the day, SWV, Jodeci and Boys to Men and many others that i haven't got room to type here. A lot of people inspire me in my life with various aspects of their life but i don't emulate them. I never stated i disliked Janet Jackson, but whereas before she may have been leading a pack, she' s now following. Many of the songs on her latest album could be tracks left off from Britany's album. A true leader never changes there game to fit in Mary j Blige has remained MJB for ten years plus, on a pop level madonna is always pushing the boundaries, like was said by Angelo said Brandy stayed Brandy, sang kept clothes on and let the public grow up with her.

I feel Mariah and her team were smart to book SNL being that her album drops in 4 weeks. Also I feel like she was asked to fill in because she also one of those females that has made an impact on music even though people don't like to admit that and she has a following. Lastly now that Janet's album is out and compared to A. Keys, MJB and Keyshia she is not making the noise Def Jam hoped for. So they are depending on Mimi to pick up the slack of the 100 million dollar debt the label is in. I hope Janet gets better too.
The only one I stan for is Mariah Carey. Ive been staning for her for like 16 years now and lately i've picked up Erykah Badu but I really dont have time to be supporting anyone else hardcore.
