Lloyd Drops New Music, Talks Joint Album W/ Weezy & Compares The Inc., to the WTC???

Posted on March 4, 2008 10:10 AM

As I mentioned yesterday, yes I am a fan of Lloyd. Say what you will about him, his hair or his funny speaking voice -- I happen to like his music, in fact Street Love was one of my favorite albums last year.

So, when I saw this recent interview (thanks Toshi & Gyant) I was happy to learn that he is hard at work on a third album. There is no title or release date yet (ummm I'm thinking that's not a good sign folks) but there is a new single which hit the streets this weekend, "How We Do It In The A" ft. Ludacris. [Listen to it Here]

I likes, btw, but I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Anyway, so in addition to dishing about who he's working with on the new project - Nelly, Polow Da Don, J-Lack (Usher's brother, who also produced "Get It Shawty"), Snoop Dogg, Fabulous and Lil Wayne - yes again.

In fact, Lloyd and Weezy are such great buds they too are considering a "Best of Young Worlds Album".

Asked how that album might stand up next to Bow Wow and Omarion's recent feat, Lloyd had this to say:

"Lloyd and Lil' Wayne is a different kind of intensity from Bow Wow and Omarion. We appeal to a much older crowd, and we a little bit more hardcore with our style. But yeah, we definitely thinking about it."

Alrighty then.

I know I can't be the only one tired of rappers and singers who think just because they do a couple hot remixes together people will want to hear a full album. It was original the first time, Bow and Omarion didn't do so bad with their effort, but really, do we really have to do this again???

While the interview covered some familiar ground, exploring Lloyd's role as Inc., peacekeeper between Irv and Ashanti at one point he compared the collapse of The Inc., to the falling Twin Towers??? I am still trying to wrap my brain around it, but I would hate to rob y'all of seeing the full quote in context.

Here she is:

"When I came with the Inc., they were facing a lot. My whole attraction was that I could revive or breathe a little life into this place because it had great history. I was in a place that was built on love and I just wanted to bring some of that in there. Before Street Love, there wasn’t a lot of noise. But after, Ashanti put out a record and Ja put out a record. So it opened up the market for what we had. It’s like the Twin Towers. They knocked them down out of malicious intent and hatred. Those buildings were built on love, hard work, sweat and dedication. Same way with the Inc. When I came there, it was ash and rubble. I’m like, 'I gotta restore this building.'"

Talk to me y'all! What do you think?

  • I love Lloyd too and even though I'm not really feeling the tracks he is releasing, I will still buy his album. I hope you bring more updates and stories on him because he has a lot of talent and he is different.

  • Welcome Soul Rebel, I look forward to seeing what you bring to sohh in the future

I'm a fan of music blogs and I would like to offer some constructive criticism.

    1. appealing layout - putting pictures before the cut can generate more interest in the topic and lead readers to 'read more'

    2. Controversy- now I don't mean intentionally stir up controversy like Soulman use to, but cover some of the topics that you know people want to talk about.

I mention that b/c although I like Lloyd and I thought his last album was good, and I didn't care to read an entire post on him. Which leads me to number 3..

    3. Sometimes cover a variety of artists/topics in one post. I think this is important if you only have one post a day.

i hope this doesn't come off as nitpicking, because I do like your posts so far.

100 songs deep and he can't pick 12 hot ones??

  • Yeah, this one is cute, i'd tap my feet to it, Luda put a good stamp on it as usual...personally I think him and weezy doing an entire album would be a mistake, i mean the cut that cut they did together, "You" got real boring after they played it for a while; I can't see it being a classic...hey, I have a request, can we get some news about Jon B.???

Lloyd could take more risks & crack th@ male RNB mould 'cos he different than the rest...'gotta wait & see I guess.

Na...not feelin' the 'Twin Towers' comparison...& in my opinion "Best of Both Worlds' did nothin 4 Jay or Kellz...or Bow Wow & O. Mixtape? - Maybe...
