March 2008 Archives
Although "Touch My Body" is currently down one spot to #15 on Billboard's Hot 100, that hasn't stopped folks from speculating that it may be headed for # 1 and a new record soon to follow.
As I told you last week - "Touch My Body" is finally available as a digital download, which could give Mimi's single sales a boost. If "Touch My Body" does hit number one Mariah will have 18 #1 singles to her credit -- beating Elvis (who is tied with her for the second most # 1 records) and gaining on the record-holding Beatles who've recorded 20 #1's. (Considering 50% of the Beatles are dead, Elvis is dead and Mariah is showing no signs of retiring, it's fairly safe to say it's only a matter of time before this record is hers).
Yahoo! Music just premiered Trina's new video "I Gotta Thang For You" featuring Keyshia Cole. NY Jets running back Thomas Jones also makes a cameo. Peep it out below:
This joint almost made my "5 Songs I Can't Get Out My Head" post this week -- but I thought it'd be more fun to post along with some other vids that share a common topic...
she can be a sweet dream... OR a beautiful nightmare
Beyonce "Beautiful Nightmare"
Is that a "Beat It" sample I hear?
This is definitely the most stuck in my head song out right now -- even if I wanted to escape Mariah knew exactly where to find me -- watching "The Hills" ( did y'all see the performance btw?) I guess she really means it when she says she'll hunt you down. In case you didn't get the memo already the single is now available on iTunes and you can also pre-order her album there.
Last Friday I had a girl's night out with a couple good friends at the Trey Songz/J.Holiday concert at House of Blues in Los Angeles.
The place was packed with mostly women although I saw plenty of couples up in there doing the bump'n'grind.
"Feedback" feat. Ciara, Busta Rhymes & Fabulous (click to listen/download)
hot remix but -- what's up with the rest of the album? they are just gonna stretch this single to death huh. btw this is supposedly the OFFICIAL remix, so bump all them other ones ya heard
How many of y'all think it was a good idea to wet her down for this promo pic? Cleopatraish? Wet Rat-ish? Goth Dominatrix? What exactly were they going for here?
The New York Post just published a story about the Jackson Family's financial troubles. Read It Here. Before the Janet stans go nuts -- know that the article states the Jackson sisters are still in good shape, particularly Janet.
It's that time again -- "Dancing With The Stars" airs at 8pm tonight on ABC and you know I am going to be rooting for Mario. Tonight all 12 celebrity contestants (6 men and 6 women) -will face off before the first double elimination...
I have a favorite this week - Raheem Devaughn "Customer"
Rih Rih is doing a Re-Release of Good Girl Gone Bad...
British X-Factor winner Leona Lewis appeared on Oprah Monday. She's backed by Clive Davis and Simon Cowell -- after doing huge numbers internationally her album Spirit comes out in the US April 8th.
Danity Kane releases Welcome to the Dollhouse today â€" I gave their new album a serious listen this weekend and I like more than a few of the songs.
“Damaged†“Sucka For Love†“Extasy†“Lights Out†and “Bad Girl†get thumbs up from me. Funny how DK is working with Missy (she's on "Bad Girl"), just as Total did ten years ago.
Mariah wants the world to know that just because she dresses like a freak, doesn't mean she is a dumb bimbo... In a recent interview with Allure Mariah calls herself a "freakin' prude."
First Michael, Now Aretha. The IRS and these mortgage banks are no joke -- how does a $450 mistake from three years ago become a nearly $20,000 debt??? That's nuts.
Gyant hooked me up with this interview with Trey, who is currently one of my favorites. Watch him talk about Trey Day, hip-hop and his haters... Enjoy!
I decided to get my weekend started right with some of my favorite sunny songs. Happy Friday --They should have you smiling in no time...
I really did not want to fall into the trap of talking about this girl (I was going to say poor girl but at $4,000 a job she can only be but so poor) but I just received an email stating homegirl now has a song on the radio.
Danity Kane "Damaged"
Do, Do, Do you have a first aid kit handy?
As you guys already know Janet Jackson picked a bad week to catch the flu. The illness caused her to cancel a scheduled appearance as the musical guest on SNL and guess who is now replacing her?
Danity Kane premiered the video for their first single "Damaged" yesterday on TRL and mtv.com.
Here it is:
Sadly my favorite HBO series EVER "The Wire" ended this Sunday, but in better news it looks like Jill Scott has a new job with the network.
The pair of producer/songwriters founded Philadelphia International Records in 1971 and are known for their work with R&B greats such as The O'Jays, Patti Labelle, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls and Billy Paul.
Here's a little Monday morning gossip for you... Apparently viewers will soon have a chance to peep out whether all the Janet/Ciara swagger jacking digs are worth any weight.

So it looks like Danity Kane is dropping their new album Welcome to the Dollhouse March 18th. I got an email with a link that was advertised as the Behind the Scenes to their making of their video for "Damaged."
I got a few inquiries about whether I'd continue SoulMan's 5 Songs Of The Moment tradition, and the answer is yes and no... I wouldn't be me if I didn't put my own spin on it, so you will be getting five songs from me on a pretty regular basis, but instead of 5 songs of the moment think of them as those jams that are just so catchy they get stuck in your head.
Either all that Discipline paid off, or making nice with MTV goes a loooooong way because Janet has reportedly emerged at #1 on the charts, and is projected to have sold 178,000 copies.
As I mentioned yesterday, yes I am a fan of Lloyd. Say what you will about him, his hair or his funny speaking voice -- I happen to like his music, in fact Street Love was one of my favorite albums last year.
As many of you know, last Friday marked the end of the SOHH Soulman reign. I've been a longtime friend and follower of Soulman's, so I know I have some very large shoes to fill and I will do my best to bring you the latest and greatest the R&B/soul game has to offer on a daily basis.
