Janet Jackson Lets Down Her Guard and Melts Soulman's Icebox

Janet Jackson appeared on Perez Hilton's show "What Perez Says" and aside from looking damn good she put away that 80's pop superstar demeanor and got real.

As all of you know her CD, Discipline leaked to the internet yesterday-- right on schedule. CDs usually leak one week prior to release-- so to those who feel thats a big deal, relax and follow the trends.
This is not a review.... but from someone who ISN'T a Janet stan. It's pretty good. Better than her last three CDs combined. Although I wished she did more of her own writing (it adds that extra something something).
A favorite is "Can't B Good." Have a listen.

She's a superstar... give it to her, singing abilities aside, (I don't think she ever professed to be the greatest SINGER)... but she's ENTERTAINED the hell out of me for years!

Janet will sell decent here in the U.S, with that aside its not about breaking records or having to prove herself anymore, shes accomplished things in the business people now never will, shes 43 and can still out perform all these chicks out now half her age...2008 is Janet and Marias year, im a fan of both =)

Love Janet, but she gets bodied by the production on this record. Feedback, Rollercoaster, So Much Better, Rock With U...are all hot, but Janet's vocals are a mess. Past dance tracks like So Excited, and most of what she did w/ Jimmy and Terry complimented her vocal abilities, whereas this new shit reminds me of that terrible Weekend cover. The ballads are on point though.
That being said, Mariah has yet to progress past the point of 12 year old girl, so Team Janet all the way!
SOULMAN, if you're going to support Janet then support her. But don't pretend to like her then try to bash her on the low. A lot of your comments about Janet are just back handed compliments. And at a certain point it stops being about sells and comes down to whether or not you like the music. If you like her songs (which you claim to) then her sells domestically or otherwise souldn't even matter. Besides, Janet has 5 multi-platinum albums under her belt, 3 of which passed the diamond mark internationally. She doesn't really need to stress out about sells anymore.

Janet happens to have an amazing voice. It is not a loud up in your face voice but it is smooth, clear and pitch perfect. She may not be a loud singer but her voice personifies empathy, which is why it sucks when she seems too lazy to actually o anything but mumble or whisper. But in the style sweepstakes, she is in a class all her own. She's got a Smoky Robinson voice- somewhere between Sade and Joni Mitchell.
I keep waiting for her to break out and sing something heart wrenching and empowering but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. I do dig the So Much Better Than You song. She seems to be channeling Beyonce. SoulMan I have nothing but live for you, but you have to stop being so hard on Janet. Mariah is NOT that chick. Everytime I see Mariah for some reason I keep waiting to see “Hello Kitty” in the background. She needs to step it up, because her new single shows absolutely no progression, and she is no longer “The Voice”. I guess you forgot how Mariah had her little slump in sales too.
Anyways, this blog is about Ms. Janet. This new album is good, although I wish she had gone with a few more dance tracks. However, Janet has always been just as popular with ballads as dance tracks…Ciara, not so much. Janet may not have the strongest voice, but she can sing. I wish she would just sing a song instead of whispering. I was listening to “All for You” yesterday, and she actually sang on that song, so don’t get it twisted. I would but tickets to a Janet concert before a Mariah concert ANYDAY!!!
Also, a lot of the haters that talk down on Janet for whispering are the same people that talk about how talented Aaliyah was. I love Aaliyah, but she always had a very soft voice. That doesn’t take away from her entertainment value though. A soft voice can still sound good.

janet is not a powerhouse vocailist, however, she can carry a tune with great melody, her voice is soothing and melodic, if dont have to hit that c over f note to be effecive, she has moved over 100 million records, and on stage no one compares, bottom line. no one.

I'm not one of those sycophantic fans that can't admit that Janet has been really uninspired as a vocalist for the last few albums. In fact, if she didn't pull out of that doldrums with this CD I was going to quit wasting my time and money on her sorry, lazy, uninspired music. Now- you listen to this track on this site and what happens? That voice we fell in love with- Come Back To Me- Anytime Anyplace- its right here but better- more dimensional, more emotionally on target and as clear and pure as ever. Janet's voice is unique and its a mirror to her soul.
With all the loud barking and name dropping and crude posturing of rap-and the over heated pseudo- soul of the shriek singers maybe Janet is attempting to bring something refreshing and calm to a medium that is quickly losing its identity but one where talking quietly becomes an art form unto itself?

Janet has a beautiful tone to her voice and it doesn't need power house vocals. She just needs to enunciate and strengthen her delivery
You had to know that the Janet sickos would come out if you question anything about her. The truth is this album won't sell well domestically or overseas (just like the last album) because no one cares anymore. She just needs to fall back and let Beyone and Ciara take it.

Mariah is far from my favorite artist but she is the queen in my eyes. She is the third best selling female of all time and is about to become the the artist with most #1 songs with Touch my Body. She prounced jesus in the whistle register. I hear some of her songs on the oldies that I hadnt heard in years or didnt realize were hers. She will leave behind a greater muscial legacy than Janet.
Mariah will always be the same mariah, shell never evolve or try a new look or anything. Mariahs good on record, but live shes boring. Janet never had a loud voice, its always been sweet and soft. if you want to see janet really sing, look up Scream on youtube. Im feeling discipline, and i will be there to watch her in concert, i miss watching a good show, cause JANET can entertain.
