Did Amy Winehouse Deserve Her Grammys, Plus... Listen To New Mariah Carey

Former drug addict Natalie Cole spoke out about fellow sweaty puffy coke whore Amy Winehouse receiving 5 Grammys.

“I don’t think she deserved it,” previous Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole said. “I think she needs to get her life together first, and then get the awards later."

*its not the Grammy performance... they keep removing them from Dailymotion and I am not looking for it.

So back to Natalie Cole... does it matter that Amy actually lives the life she sings about and should that be weighed in on when a Grammy committee makes decisions. Supposedly the Grammy's aren't about sales, it's about the breadth and depth of the work.

Should someone's drug use impair their ability to win an award for music? If that's the case then half the music we hear wouldn't be made or celebrated.

Natalie Cole sit down!

Natalie Cole needs to sit her ex-heroin addicted ass down somewhere.

Amy Winehouse's only obligation to me is to give me a good cd, IF I actually bought it. (PS: She DID that!)

What she does in her personal life, as long as it doesn't affect me or anybody else, is her own business. If I gave back all of my cd's based upon the fact that the artist did drugs, I wouldn't own a Mary J Blige cd, an Al Green cd, a Marvin Gaye cd, a 50Cent cd... hell, I don't think I'd OWN a hip hop cd.

The Grammy is an award based upon your MUSIC and to decide that one can't be awarded a MUSIC award, solely based upon their MUSIC is ridiculous.

Why didn't she speak up when R. Kelly collected award after award? What HE does in his personal life affected somebody else... what Amy Winehouse does affects Amy Winehouse at the end of the day!

If Natalie Cole feels that strongly about this topic, then why isn't she agreeing to return the Grammy SHE won in 1978 for Best New Artist, an award she collected while eatin heroin mixed with Fun Dip.

I think Amy deserved them. Since when do the Grammy's judge people's personal lives when handing out plastic trophies? Amy had a hot, fresh, UNIQUE album and sound, and I think she deserved them. Somebody should tell Ms. Cole to remember that those who can, do, and those who can't, put out statements criticizing those who can do....I'm just sayin. Be a basehead all you want to, Amy, just keep puttin out great music.
...
And excuse me, but ain't it common knowledge that crack/heroin/meth-heads put out better music when they're actually ON that shit? I'm not encouraging her, I'm just sayin....

i agree with Natalie Cole.. and you bloggers are so disrespectful... show some respect.

Amy is a crackhead..of you are more concerned about great music than someones health.then you really have some problems. Amy seems talented but im not giving my 15 bucks to contribute to anyone with drug habit..she will get my prayers but not my praise

get some morals people.

natalie cole is sipping on the haterade

she's just made cuz she spent all her dad's royalties on coke and heroin - DON'T THROW STONES BIATCH

at least amy made the come up on her own

Can't wait to hear Mariah's new song today... I'm sure it'll be a smash hit for her! Its about time Mariah :)

Grammys are about album sales....

So who the fuck cares who got a Grammy cause they hand those things out like candy anyway.

And Natalie Cole>>>>Amy Winehouse....

I'm cosigning Miss Pearl....true talent is undeniable...that's the thing about music, if it touches you then that's what it is... who are we to judge what she does with her life, behind closed doors, and what business is it of ours any damn way? I don't hear of any Lil Wayne boycotts, and he is high as a giraffe's ass 95 percent of the time! We still love Whitney don't we? Shit let her do her.

I think Amy deserves every award she gets. If anything she was robbed at the grammys for not winning album of the year. Whatever the story with her personal life, 'Back to Black' is an incredible album and she is an incredible artist. Natalie Cole should take a trip to rehab coz I'm thinkin she may have been a bit high when she made those dumb comments...

As for Mariah's new single.... can't wait!!! No doubt another hit for the unstoppable force that is MC ;)

BOO! That Amy Winehouse knows how to put on a performance. Its all about the music man!. You knows how to express her feelings for a fans that help her win five - 5ive grammy's.....

You go Amy.... Amy, Amy, Amy ....Woo Hoo....

@KT, please sit down. You probably own CDs/albums of musicians who were coked out just as much as Amy AND Natalie Cole is/were. So get off your high horse as if you got way more morals than anybody else, because chances are, you don't. I do feel that Amy should leave the pipe alone, but hell, that doesn't mean she didn't deserve those awards. I love Natalie Cole, but I do NOT agree with that statement at all. Boo.

What diva Natalie said is TRUE. Amy has no incentive to get better if the praise and shit keeps rolling in. When Natalie got strung out on crack in her R&B heyday, her label and the industry in general turned their backs on her and her career suffered until she got her shit together and stopped using. (Think Whitney nowadays.) If Amy was black and American her ass wouldn't have gotten shit. So Natalie is right - she ain't deserve shit not only because she's overrated, but because she's a mess and does not appreciate her career or her fans. This chick is another Lauryn - this Grammy sweep will be the high point of her career, the beginning and the end. Next.

Amy shouldn't have gotten shit ! when entertainers and athletes do bad they loose endorsement deals or even get cut from teams. they are PUBLIC figures that tend to influence without even meaning to. to be successful in life you need to have your shit together in order to step up the tax bracket ladder. Amy seems to get more respect and more admiration by the every ounce of coke she snorts and that is some retarded shit !!! the more money she wastes on drugs the more money comes in from dumbasses like you people supporting that habit. an award SHOULD NOT be based only on sales but also on the artist as a whole. and Amy is a whole lot of bullshit !!!!

Sounds like they are building up this cokehead for more sales when she disappears and dies. I don't feel that no one should be consider a grammy and they have a drug problem. What's next criminal can get a grammy because they sing bout thier crimes. I agrees that Ms. Cole may have some issues but she does have a valid point. If that's the case then a lot of rapper should get grammy for the depth of thier music.

I'm glad Natalie Cole said something. I guess people will care more for Amy Winehouse drug addiction if she overdose on stage.

First of all NOT winning an award is NEVER going to be incentive for somebody to stop doing drugs - EVER!

If people give up their jobs, their families, and their livelihoods for that rock, you can rest assure that NOT winning a grammy won't affect her desire to clean up her act - so THAT point goes out the window.

And for the self righteous who make the "point" that people who think that she was deserving of the award based upon her MUSIC are somehow devoid or moralistic fibre, I say, "get a fukkin clue!"

I empathize with Amy just as I do Whitney, and I pray for the day she gets better... but if you don't get self righteous when you see TI, Snoop, 50 or any RAPPER collecting award after award (WHILE high) then don't get on your fukkin high horse talkin about what Amy doesn't deserve. Mary J Blige was fukked up for the first 10 years of her career, wasn't she?

One has nothing to do with the other, if she put out an album and didn't finish half the songs on it, or forgot most of the words on the tracks and released THAT... then you have a point, but as long as she sang clearly when she recorded that album and all of the songs were on point when I bought it... then I don't give a shit WHAT she does after she leaves the recording studio as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else.

MOST of your righteous mf's are the VERY ones who keep R Kelly afloat within the industry! Where is the outcry to stop these radio stations from playing his music, the backlash for the celebrities who collaborate with him, or the award committees who continually reward his child molesting ass?

Please, get off y'all bullshit - ya'll kill me with your selective morality trying to pass judgement on somebody else.

@ Why Would Anyone Support a Crackhead?

"What's next criminal can get a grammy because they sing bout thier crimes."

"If that's the case then a lot of rapper should get grammy for the depth of thier music."
---------------------
Allow me to reward YOU with the dumbest comment of the year award.

CTFU @ YOU!!!!!!

That's the problem (one of them) with America today. People too busy payin attention to Celebrities personal lives to listen to the fuckin music. People think that just cause you can hear the stories and see the pictures and get the gossip, that their opinion on SOMEBODY ELSES life really matters. I miss the time when people weren't as interested in Celebrity lives. They just listened to the song, watched the movie, or went to see the play and didn't give a damn about their personal lives. I know that girl is a basehead. I participate in all the jokey-jokes. difference is, when it comes to giving props and shit, I judge the art, not shit my opinion don't matter about anyway. Yes she's on that shit, and yes she's a bad example. But example for WHOM. If I had kids, I wouldn't be raisin a fuss about her bein a bad example cause she wouldn't be an example at all. I would be the example for them. People need to stop bein' so invested in celebrities personal lives and just pay attention to the "art".

I wouldn't give a damn about Amy Winehouse crack addiction if she was getting more press for her musical talent. However she is not, she getting more press for being the crazy crackhead who got caught on tape doing drug. She is getting more press for walking around at night time look like a wreck. Therefore with all the press she getting for being the crazy crackhead people don't care about her music, they want to see what crazy thing she going to do next. Also Mary J. Blige maybe was high out of her mind in her early years but she didn't give as bad as performances as Amy Winehouse. With Amy Winehouse you could tell she high out of there, she can't even say still and sing. Plus she slurs her words.

The reality is that Amy Winehouse is easily the biggest talant of this generation. Her performance stole the show on Sunday. You either recognize that with integrity and honesty, or the Grammys become nothing more than a farcical holyer than though character judgement, with nothing to do with music.

As Cole is a has-been, obviously she would prefer the latter. Spite and jealousy are fairly ugly and sad to hear. The awards were fully merited and deserved.

Ringo had it spot on: "Man, those are some grapes"

I don't think that amy winehouse deserved record of the wear because Irreplaceable was sung by someone with more talent and it was more popular. Also Mariah Carey has 5 Grammys in a 18 year career and I really do not think that amy has more talent than mariah.

I disagree with Natalie. I understand where she's coming from but...NO!

The Grammy's are supposed to judge music...let God judge the personal lives.

Besides if the Grammy's started judging based on personal lives...i don't think anyone would win anything unless they Gospel singers...and considering a lot of Gospel/Christians live double lives anyway, there wouldn't be a Grammy's.

Amy's Back to Black album was flawless in my opinion...same with the Frank album. I won't knock Herbie Hancock's win (because he's dope and i'm also a jazz pianist), but I was hoping she would win for album of the year...if not her then Kanye.

That being said, I hope that Amy gets her act together...I'd love to hear more music from her in the future.

miss pearl: SHUT THE FUCK UP! YOU ARE SO DAMN IGNORANT!
what kind of image and role model is amy winehouse? The fan base is mainly kids, teenagers and young adults. This is basically sayin "drugs get you grammys and fuck it, we'll give you 5 grammys for bullshit! keep smokin!" Gee, and i thought drugs were bad for you.

I think you're missing the point. Awards aren't about who was the best behaving artist. It's about who put out the best music. Your personal life does not dictate the outcome of who wins and who loses. If you want to give it to some person who had no talent but won citizen of the year three years running, give them a gold sticker and a $5 gift certificate to McDonald's, but that's not what these award shows are about.
