Jagged Edge: Will Making Babies Equate to Making Hits

Jagged Edge has a lot to live up to, not only because they made magic back in the day, but also because they were the first act Jermaine Dupri signed when he headed over to Island Def Jam.

That and the fact that Diddy is about to announce the members of his new boy band and as you know, there is only room for like one, maybe two boy bands in any man's playlist at a time.

The fellas had a listening session down in Atlanta, hosted by JD. Check out these clips.

J.D. singing J.E.'s praises...

Wingo and the twins....

JE's new cd Baby Makin' Project is due out Sept 25th. They recently dropped their new video "Put A Little Umph In It." Check it out:

it's kinda just so so... JE usually opens with a hood classic. I dunno...

I use to love JE - I really did. The JE Heartbreak Album was my shit!

"Gotta Be" was my song. But can the really make a comeback? Don't really know, but they use to have a vey good R&B sound. I mean a straight R&B with no chaser.

The new stuff is okay...just okay

Nope. I couldn't listen to more than 10 seconds of it. I am so tired of this hip hop R&B from these cats. I want some plain old R&B and I am praying that is what we will get from Puffy with the new band. As much as I love the cats on that show if they come with the same ole trying to be rappers that sing I won't support their project either.

Recently, they have had Brian McKnight-itis. Basically, you could start listening to a song thinking "this is my jam" and it's not until you get to the chorus where you realize that you have been listening to the wrong song. LOL. Can they make a comeback? Definitely, but I think they should've left JD out of the equation just once so that they had a different sound out the gate. Otherwise they are going to sound like they are re-hashing their oldies instead of creating new music and only us grown folk will be checking for it and that won't amount to enough sales/popularity. Sadly, you have to get the MTV crowd on board to make a real move.

I really hope you are wrong about that. MTV shoudn't be controlling OUR music. I'm so tired of pop I could scream. R&B groups essentially disappeared in the new millenium, but I could make a ridiculously long list of successfull R&B groups, boy and girl, from the 90s back to the 50s with numerous ones out at the same time. What we are being fed right now is just sad. Catering to the pop crowd is what killed the R&B group genre.

i never liked j.e....always found them to be corny

Bird, I agree with you about R&B kind of disappearing. This hybrid of hip hop & R&B is ok but it just doesn't work for me all the time. I am tired of the R&B thug image. Give me Brian McKnight & Anthony Hamilton anyday! I like JE they are some talented brothers &puffy's new group has nothing on them vocally. I really hope they have good music this time around.

I disagree w/ EVERYONE. There was nothing wrong w/ that new JE track. I actually like where they're going w/ this. As a matter of fact, they say that on this new album, EVERY song is a ballad... so let's give these dudes a shot b4 we knock.

Jagged Edge is the only group putting out "REAL" music in general. There are songs by other cats that I like , but Jagged Edge is the only ones putting out music that you can feel.

Jagged Edge is a much understated group...these boys are writing REAL R&B music. The only thing wrong with JE is that they think of their music as R&B music for the thugs/homies, but in actuality, their music could be timeless, and they could become a modern day four tops or temptations; and that is a compliment. They need to take off the do-rags, hats, and stunna frames; and become that classic & timeless group we know they can be. They could be just as great as New Edition or Boyz to Men, trust!

man, jagged edge is slept on hard! je heartbreak was their hottest album and it was some of the best r&b i heard that year! have some of yall heard "seasons change" or some of their other great ballads? of course, like every artist, they fell off, but they still have that good stuff on their albums... oh yea im really feelin j. holiday too!

Every song is a ballad? Now that is just going to be a little boring. I am a huge fan of the ballad, but not an entire album of it. Give me at least a mid-tempo or two.

@Bird-I don't have a problem with using the hip-hop beats and the booty shakers in R&B, but I have a problem with every song from an R&B artist (mostly male) taking us to the club or getting us drunk or taking home a chick etc. That's the problem I have with a lot of music today. Have something to say. Don't just give me some in-tune cliches and call it a song.

J E a comeback? Hmm maybe I mean if every song doesn't sound the same it should be cool. With every single they dropped they kinda like did the same song over and over (beat and tempo of the song were always too close to the same thing Every song a ballad??
Man ya'll forgetting Dru Hill Dru world order was hott and most if not all the songs on that cd were ballads.. Ballads are real r&B it's cool to have a good club song but you gotta be singing man not just one toning the whole song (basically bone thugging it). Hit a different note throw in a harmony or two. Speaking of groups Whatever happened to One chance?

I agree with both of you. I liked them at first, but then they kept doing the same thing over and over and getting more and more thug, including criminal charges and I was just through with them. Truly I wasn't feeling the song, but maybe I should at least try to listen to the whole thing.

You see what I mean? No one is EVER satisfied. This new track they have out NOW is sorta mid-tempo.

People want tradition R&B, they may have an album with about 12 tracks and maybe 10 "ballads" and it's STILL not enuff!

Like JE says, NO OTHER R&B group is producing music like that. Everything is hip/hop related... so they wanted to switch it up for the "true JE fans"... I'm lookin' forward to it. If the songs are similar to this new track, then I'll cop it.

What!!!! Man yall all trippin like a mothafucka...on tha real....mayne datz a hot track...i mean you gotta slow it down sumtimes...especially when your wit ya lady....i mean datz sum stroke music...yah mean...Plus They are Legends in Tha RnB Game...I mean 112 gone...who else we got?? What RnB group is really doin it right now....none....We Need Em Back 4 Real doe.

They ain't 112, nobody cares and they will flop again. 112 is the biggest selling male R&B group this decade and JE can put dozen more albums and still won't catch up. LMAO

Let's Get Married is STILL my jam. I'm pullin for J.E. but they're gonna have to come harder than Put A Little Umph In It to make even a ripple.
