Robin Thicke Speaks on the Difference Between He and Justin Timberlake, Kelly Rowland Putting In Work

Robin Thicke is the cover star for the new issue of GIANT magazine. Of all the subjects he broaches, he finally gets around to talking about what many of his fans have been discussing since The Evolution of Robin Thicke leaked last summer-- comparisons to Justin Timberlake.

On the difference between him and Justin Timberlake:
“I would say that Justin’s been a star since he was 16 and it took me 14 years to become a star. That’s the big difference. I’m the guy who had to keep trying. I’m the guy who took four record deals and never hit. I’m the guy who has actually has been through all the pain and the struggle and the heartache. And when I sing now, I sing with pain and heartache and struggle in my voice.”

Hmmm. Must have been some struggle with that silver spoon. Robin also speaks on seeing his black friends deal with racism.

On seeing his black friends cope with racism:
“It makes you angry, as angry as you could possibly be. And it’s why people like myself, when we see stuff like that, I wanna write about how much we’re all the same and how much we’re supposed to love each other and share and celebrate our differences and our similarities. I know that there are killers, assholes, murderers, and thieves that are on Wall Street and they’re the worst people on the planet, and I also know that there are thugs who have no love left in their hearts and who will kill, maim, and steal because they’ve given up on themselves or on being righteous and good. And there’s also loving and caring and amazing people everywhere and in every section of society. I think there are good people everywhere. And I think that people forget… even with all this bullshit about what the ‘hood is. I mean, people act like the only black people or Puerto Ricans or people of any ethnicity who make it out of the ‘hood are athletes and rappers and, in reality, we have more minority doctors, lawyers, teachers, and professors than ever before. Society as a whole is changing because the white man is finally losing some control.”

"Hmmmm less like hubba bubba, more like sugarless gum."

love it comeback was cute had a ring to it. I'm not sure if I'm feeling this one as much

I like Robin better than Justin. Just a personal preference. I feel like his songs are more relatable.

I just have to say that I love Robin Thicke way more than Justin. I, along with many others, believe that Robin is everything that Justin is trying and wishes he could be. The soul comes effortlessly from him where as with Justin, you always get the feeling that he is trying way to hard to prove something. As far as that struggle comment, Soulman, you really have to know this dudes story and judging by your comment, you don't. I have been a follower of his music every since he wrote songs for Brandy's albums and when his first album Thicke came out.... It was a masterpiece but didn't even go copper! He looked a lot different then. He had long, straggly hair, dressed different and looked kind of like a hippie, but he has always had the most soulful voice and plays the piano and many different instruments. I am one to say that just because you grow up with money and priveledge, doesn't mean that you do not have to struggle with things and that everything is all good, so give the man a break and just take him for what he is, which is a fresh, soulful, honest, talented, non-manufactured artist who I am glad is finally getting the attention he deserves!

There is definitely a lot of similarities between Thicke & jt but the main difference 2 me anyway, is Robin has a raw maturity that comes through his music.

He is perhaps,
an older more soulful version of jt. What is obvious is he seems 2 have a better understanding of life and culture. jt thinks being Black is "cool" I believe unlike many whites, mr. Thicke is one of the few whites that has opted to explore the "journey of Blackness" and really respects the diversity in our Pan-African & Latino Culture.

As 4 Kells,
She looks so elegantly sexy on this pic. I never really care 4 her weaves (is it because I'm still stuck in her old cropped DC look)?

Whatever it is people,
have a Blessed and Safe Weekend...

..........someone is still hating on robin thicke

Only similarity between robin and JT is that they are both white and do black music like Jon B and the like. Why even try to compare them

C'mon...yeah, his daddy was the dude from Growing Pains, but don't act like Robin Thicke had his success handed to him. His debut album didn't sell shit, even AFTER the Sprite deal and the re-release. It took "Evolution" a long while to take off, because "Wanna Love U Girl" was out for a while prior to even that leak with different tracks on it. If Pharrell didn't do anything, Robin would have either been dropped from Interscope or stuck in contract hell...no connections to Jason Seaver would have helped him there.

Timberlake is the product of huge financial backing, as well as big time black producers and choreographers. Thicke doesn't need Pharrell - Timberlake DOES need Timbaland, Pharrell, Will.I.Am, and other Black flavors of the month.

Soulman:

You still can't see it can you?LMAOOOO Now you know JT got that whole NSync pop thing down to a science - that is his gimmick and I love him - But I don't think that the Silver Spoon you speak of worked to Mr. Thicke's advantage - How many peeps knew who he was before this cd dropped - the CD dropp in 2006 and some people think it dropped this year. So I can feel the struggle he speaks of - where he has had the door slammed in his face - he opted to enter through the window. JT had the red carpet roll out via the Mickey Mouse Club, and Boy Band Mania...

A like both of them but Mr. Thicke would be my fav any and everyday of the week :-)

Ima need Kelly to put in a REWORK...

Fantasia is performing at the Tony's - go girl!

Robin Thicke is ten times more talented than JT.

That Kelly song is str8 fiyah.... wow she is really comin hard. I just wish Mathew/Columbia would put out the right singles. Stop hatin bitches & embrace her.
Robin Thicke is way betta than JT... Robin has been on Oprah twice and only has 1 Top 20 hit to his name. The proof is in the puddin.

r yall crazy i think tht kelly song is hottttttt she reall is doing something on this album and i think ppl should listen it seems like this time around she knows its make it or break it if her album doesnt go platinum she's out of the spotlight and she'll b pretty much forgotten until the next destiny's child reunion but i think she's stepped her game up on this albumeven though her last album was really really good i think she's coming into her own

thicke is the truth. his talent is undeniable. soulman u for one should know how competitive the music biz is...oh wait shit u never been an artist before

kelly's going to definitely work it with her release.

The only comparison between Justin and Robin is their race. Robin is a true soul artist, that has been that way since day one! Just because Robin's father was on a successful show, doesn't mean he didn't struggle. If everything was presented to him on a silver platter his first album would have been a success, and this album would have been a success off the top. Robin have to put in work!

Not feeling the Kelly song.

Is it true that Alan Alda is Robin Thicke's father or is it the guy from win, lose, or draw

Jt can kiss my litebrn azz! Lmh8tna0! R0bin has way m0re talent! Kelly u black beautiful sistah u g0 girl!!

Jt can kiss my litebrn azz! Lmh8tna0 robin has way m0re talent! Ms kelly my black beautiful sistah u g0 girl!!

Both are outstanding artists in their own right. Robin probably didn't have to "struggle" too much being Alan Thick and Gloria Loring's son. Such "Growing pains" for Robin...poor guy.
