Fantasia deserves every bit of success she gets.

What success. Matter of Fact Fantasia deserves more success than she's got so far. I'm just not sure about her staying with Missy as main producer. Don't get it twisted tho, I LOVE Missy, but a Fantasia project is too HUGE for her capabilities as producer, go look at Tweet, where's she now? Fantasia wise up girl. Look at the figures Carrie/Kelly be posting, then take a good look in the mirror. You'll see you can do it too!

Does anyone read before they make blog entires anymore? Sandra can't read obviously. Once again this NOT what Clive Davis said. Fantasia ia the only J Recs artist released this past Fall who still has an album on the charts because of her successful single When I See U. If you really want to post about Fantasia post something positive & true for once and stop geting excited over the thought of bad news. she is performiong at The Tony Awards June 10th have you blogged about that?

Vito it has nothing to do with Missy Elliott, Kelly & Carrie are POP & COUNTRY artist those genre sell more than R&B period. You cannot compare Pop/Country artist to R&B artist in terms of sales, an example Mary J & Kelly Clarkson, Mary J had a phrnomenal year with The Breakthorugh and you know what she sold? 2.5 million records, Kelly also had a great year with her last record Breakaway and she sold 5.8 million records they both won Grammy's but Pop music is more poular and therefore will sell more, period. Missy has given Fantasia some of the best songs: Free Yourself, Good Lovin, Two Weeks Notice, Bump What Ya Friends Say. Our community just doesn't buy records, we bootleg then.

On top of that we have black bloggers who delight in anything negative to report about our artists. Soulman hates Fantasia with a passion always has, how many bloggers do you see reporting on The Tony's and her rare performance? How many posted on her meeting with Oprah & Jane Fonda backstage? How many posted about her spiking ticket sales 7 million dollars in 4 weeks for the Color Purple? How many blogged about her across the boad rave reviews from The Clor Purple? The only one who has done at least one story on that is Angel La at Concrete Loop, everyone else is running around looking for bad news to report, like Sandra Rose with this FALSE story about Clive. Clive was just on AI congratulating Fantasia about her album going back up the charts. Soulman did not take the time to read the article to realize he is not quoting Clive Davis, but Roger Friedman. Black folks WE are our own worst enemy, not anybody else.

Fanny is as good as and better than Kelly & Carrie - but she gotta tap into the audience that blew up that phone line for AI - I think that the CD was very very good but it was the way they marketed it. She has some very soulful, pop & rock ballads and they did not go that route - but I am sure that Clive is gonna make sure that he uses the Color Purple to pop out some new material!

Tyna, gotta agree and disagree with you there. See Fantasia didn't who AI out of a black vote. She convinced AMERICA that she got talent. She may not be able to do Carrie/Kelly figures, but its unacceptable for her to struggle to go Gold, are you with me. Usher is R&B, but he got that cross-over appeal so he has consistently done better than 5m with his last not 1 but 3 albums! Fantasia has the kind of voice that can handle a song from any genre and make it feel soulful, why wont she do that? Because she's working with a producer who's never produced a big figure pushing artist before. Producing an album is different from doing one song that may be put on an album. I hope you get that.

I really like Fantasia but I have never cared much 4 her image. Hood Boy, though I liked the song, HATED the video, would have turned me off from the cd had I not trusted her sound (plus I bought it 1st on bootleg).

In any event, what Fantasia does have is this querky redeeming factor that no matter what little kinks she may have in her career she is very likeable and she will most likely be around 4 a minute.

Afterall, the girl can swing gospel, pop, r&b, rock and any other genre and still remain believable.

J Records keeps her in that R&B Box, they have never sent her songs to Top 40, When I See U is a Top 5 R&B hit, most record companies would send that song to Pop & rhytmic for adds now, but J records HASN'T. Too often the artist is blamed for Record company screw ups, no one wants to point the finger at the ones with the real power. Missy only produced 3 songs on Tasia's album(and they are all wonderful), Fantasia has production from Babyface with a song written by Diane Warren, Swizz Beats, Danja(Timbalands side guy), the list goes on. It has nothing to do with Missy. J records keeps their Urban artist in a box. Usher is a crossover artist, whose songs are played on Top 40 stations so is Beyonce, Fantasia is not a crossover artist yet. Do you know how many Cd's J records shipped for her? 400k, she has sold 388k, she can't sell what is not in stores.

Too many times when speaking of Fantasia, I've heard the term, "Hood Rat" and honestly, she doesn't really give you that when she speaks, or is interviewed, but that's what her IMAGE conveys - not a good thing.

Because as much as we hate to admit it, the "hood rats" she's appealing to, are the very ones who won't buy her cd ANYWAY...but the very ones who will buy that mf on bootleg (steppin on your toes?... too gat damm bad)

^^That's not true there is not one filler track on that album. The uptempos are all up to par. She got BETTER reviews on her second album than her first. Her second album is a better album than her first, the problem is not the songs. it is HER RECORD COMPANY. Why does J records get a pass? They undershipped her album, didn't get her a second single for 5 months. J records urban division is in shambles, yet the artists are blemed for it.

Umm, that's not a Clive Davis quote, that is the words of a person "roger friedman", not Clive Davis. Why are people so stupid to not know the difference between who's who? Currently her new single is #1 on the BET countdown, TOP five on the R & B charts, #59 on the Hot 100 and still moving up. Plus, it is not a Hip Hop single. her album has risen 107 spots in the past month to #85 on the billboard 200.

Absolutely those songs could get airplay... but you named all of the a) slow cuts, or b) the mid tempo - and that was my point, the FAST tracks appear to be fillers, while the slow stuff and the mid tempo stuff is great.

So, with THAT point you just made - that's one for me! LOL

That is why I named those songs, there is only 1 fast track on the second half of the album and it is CLUB BANGER( Not That type), not meant for airplay, but for the clubs which it does get played in the clubs already. You are reinforcing my point that it is not the songs, it is a hot album. It is J RECORDS!!

I have to go with KSH on this one. Same thing happened to Ruben and (although not AI related) same thing happened to Monica. As much as an artist should want to be "true" to themselves, they should not turn away their target audience. The Pop audience voted 23.423 million times for Fantasia. Not the R&B audience. The Pop audience made Fantasia platinum the first time around. Not the R&B audience. So why switch up and try to be more urban when that's not how you got where you are. Imagine if suddenly Beyonce went completely urban with Missy. Flop. And you can't blame the record label. Maybe they did put her more "ghetto" music out first, but if she hadn't recorded the songs, they wouldn't have been able to do that. Look at Christina Milian. She was all about her dance pop jams. Then came Say I and then she got dropped. So if you want big numbers, do what sales. If you're just happy to be making music, do you.

Sweetie every record on anybodys album wouldn' t get played, There are only 3 singles released on an album to begin with. more if is a smash album, but 14 singles will not get release by anybody. What exactly is your point if you agree there are lots of songs on her album that can be played on the radio? She has a radio hit, When I See U and it has increased her album sales, ever though it took J records forever to release it. You aren't making a point.

I just wanted to weigh in on the Fanny issues. I am going to lay some of blame with J Records for the reason Fanny's album did not do better. I have it and I love it, I bump it in my car all the time. Surround U is the shit! That should be the next single for real. But anyways I digress, LOL. Fanny is not at that stage in her career where she gets to have much say in her projects. I think she can veto some things here and there but for the most part she has to do as she's told. I think J records could've put a lot more emphasis on promotion and possibly shipped more units and gotten her more airplay.

When I see U is just like Truth Is so there is no reason why that song could not have played on pop stations.But I also feel like someone has to clean up her image a bit. There are times when Fanny looks greasy and unkept. She is a nice looking girl and she is shapely but there is an element of sleaze that should be discarded.

Now that she is shining in Color Purple hopefully Clive will make sure the label does the right thing by her.

@Vanity-True. She may not have THAT much say in everything, but come on. Clive is not stupid. Either he was TRULY trying to sabatoge her or he let her do her. After going platinum and paying back the money you were originally given by the label (which she should've done by now), you gain quite a little more control over your projects because now people want to work with you. Do you think they were in a board meeting and said "Let's make Fanny's album so left-field that nobody will buy it?" Probably not. But to those who blame promotion, promote what? All of her hardcore fans bought the album or bootlegged it. It's called supply and demand. If people really wanted the album, they'd definitely ship more. Now that she's in the Color Purple, more people will check for her and think "well maybe I can give her a chance despite the first single." First single is everything and they missed the ball with Hood Boy. But things will change now. Now that J Records see a viable product, they will give her a boost in priority and get her out there.

How can anyone say the album has been undershipped? Have you all been going into stores where music is sold looking for her album? The album is increasing in sales every week so its definitely in stores somewhere. I don't like the new album as well as the first. I am happy that "WISU" is doing well and the album is climbing back up the charts. I think her next single should be "Only One U" or something that can also capitalize off the success of The Color Purple because that and WISU is the reason why the album is having a resurgance in sales.

Actually, it's quite the reverse, I've seen TOO many copies of it which left me wondering, "Is this thing selling?"

The problem with trying to go straight R&B and not being Mary J Blige is not the record company, it's the fact that MOST black folk who listen to R & B is either the bootleg man himself, or they buy their cd's at the barbershop or the gas station parking lot from the same man they buy black MOVIES from (and the same folk who contribute to the "bottom line" or lack thereof)

How can you say the album wasn't undershipped. Her first album sold damn near 2 million copies, yet they only shipped 400K of the second one. What kind of sense does that make? When I see you is a Top 5 R&B HIT and should be Top 3 next week, she should be getting 20k in sales a week off a hit like that but there is not 20K albums out there to be bought! How do I know? If there was the album would be certified Gold.

All the problems with this album lies with J Records, maybe its time for Clive Davis to retire. Fantasia won American Idol by getting the Pop world to vote for her but now the Pop world doesn't know she exists. Why? Because of J Records! When was the last time a Top 5 R&B song wasn't sent to Pop/Top 40 radio? When I See You is the only song in the Top 15 of the R&B 100 not being played on Top 40 radio. How can you have the #1 video on 106&Park and J Records did even send the video to MTV until this week.

There is not one thing wrong with Fantasia's cd other than the fact that it wasn't promoted correctly!!! Now who's fault was that? Can I ask why people keep bringing up where the video is on 106&Park? That show has about as much musical influence a local talent show at a small church. Seriously.

106&Park and TRL does influence the songs that these kids download off Itunes to their Ipods, which influences chart position, which influences radio airplay. If she can have the #1 videon on 106&Park there is no reason why her video shouldn't be sent to TRL, which is the show that people who listen to Pop radio watch, and these are the people that BUY (not bootleg) albums.

First Soulman, you wrong to misleading people with the title because its obvious that its Roger's opinion and not something Clive said. But it gets you hits on your page so who cares about integrity right?
People complain about the type of songs on the album. WIth the exception of maybe 4 "ghetto" songs out of her 12 songs on the album, this album is just as r&b as her first and actually includes some pop/rock and funk in the two that danja produced. This album is much better than her first and I have to go with the people who say it was not marketed right at all. Her image was not done right either. She is a cute girl. And she's looked good many times in the past. They need to regroup and get better people to handle their artists because with a voice like hers, she should be doing better than she is. She's too damn talented.

To those of you that may have doubts about "undershipping", I think some people have a valid point regarding that matter.

When Usher releases an album it's guaranteed that they will ship 1Million+ from the warehouses to the retail stores.

For Fantasia(if it's true that J Records only released 400K copies) of course you will still see it on shelves but the store might only have 50 copies in stock at one time.

I've gone to big retailers looking for CD's on their release date and they've told me that they ran out.

But my point in all this is that yes if there aren't enough copies shipped nationally and/or worldwide then it will effect sales.I am sure that by now (months after the initial release, Broadway success & chart topping success) the stores have gotten more copies of her album.

The point ya'll keep missing is, we're talking about R&B where it DOESN"T sell because "we" tend to bootleg the majority of our movies and music - if it was Whitney Houston, they would probably ship big because black folk won't be the only ones buying and it's probably a safe bet that they'll NEED that many - but with the way Fantasia has been walkin around lookin quite hood rattish, the people that that hood she-it (read: Hood Boy) appeals to, are the very demographic of folk who ain't purchasing a damm thing from Walmart/Best Buy or Circuit City, instead they're getting it from CRAIG, the boot leg man.

Is it a wise decision to ship a minimal amount and then ship more as needed? From a business standpoint, ABSOLUTELY.

Cause y'all full of she-it if y'all tryin to say that she hasn't sold because the cd can't be found.. cause EVEN if you couldn't find it the first week, it's in the stores NOW, so if you wanted to cop it that week and couldn't... what's stopping yo azz from buying it NOW? (The cd has been out for a while now)

The last time I saw the actual SS(SoundScan) numbers Fanny was at like 380K. With "WISU" and the album spiking in sales, the album definitely had a shot at going gold. Maybe platinum if they make the right decision for a 3rd single. I have noticed that whenever Fantasia releases a ballad it does very well. Ballads may very well be her stock in trade as Hood Boy, an uptempo song bombed then again look at the type of song it was and who was singing it. It probably would of been better excepted by someone like Brooke Valentine.

bottom line when i see u should have been the 1st song released. Hood boy video was such a departure from the sweet little Tasia America loves and it was a major shock to many of her fans especially the older ones, so they avoided buying the CD thinking the whole thing was like that.

Mary J. B. sold more than 2,500.000.00 million. She has sold 3,000.000.00 in the US. of her Breakthrough album. Check Sound Scan and you will see.

I read your comments, Fantasia is very well aware of what has transpired. She would never speak ill of Clive or of Missy or anyone ever, but she is doing what she has to do.She is so thankful to still be in the loop and doing what she loves entertaining the people.
