Jennifer Hudson, The People's Princess. That's what Andre Leon Talley called her. The first time I heard that reference, was for Princess Diana... and it meant the people loved her, but the establishment didn't. Jennifer Hudson has just been named the best actress in her category this year.
THAT'S MAJOR!
And we know by Eddie Murphy's example, you can deserve to win and not.
I can normally be relied on for a healthy dose of hater-aide. But there is always time for hate. I'll hate tomorrow or another day. I whole heartedly give it up to Jennifer Hudson.
She earned her moment, she received her moment and rightfully so, as she makes Black History, in Black History Month... we all gotta revel in her moment too. Congratulations Jennifer.
Now I bet Whoopi is wondering why there was no pomp and circumstance around her Oscar win in Ghost. Or was there....
Ok, I figured BOTH Eddie and Jennifer wouldn't go home with trophies but I woulda bet a whole month's rent that Eddie would have finally been acknowledge.
But um yea... Watch Tracey Edmonds, exit stage left.
Can someone tell me where the award for Best Sound Mixing came from, and who has won in past years? WHO?
Best Original Song.... Melissa Etheridge. Did Ellen pull a string for her fellow lesbian? Over "Listen," "Love You, I Do" and "Patience." And for the record I like "Love You, I Do" better than "Listen."
Damn, I woulda never guessed. The justified by saying Oscars are full of surprises. I say it's full of reminders. Let that marinate.
But bigger than all that!
Jamie was a lead in DG and his boo, TANK, scored the film. Let that marinate.
Whatever....
Yea and for the Hollywood haps of the Oscars, head over to Natasha at YBF!

1 st!!!
J Hud....you ARE my idol!!!
I look forward to your CD and your future movies.
I was your # 1 fan ever since American Idol and have been bumping the songs from your website prior to your J Records deal....
Work it out girl!

That was real Hull Street...
Congrats to all the winners !!! Also congrats to the nominees !!! If you take time out to peep out the Documentary Inconvient Truth, you'll see why that song won easily. Plus, the Oscars didn't need a Beyonce' moment.
i love jeniffer, i think she is one of the most beautiful and at the same time talented singers that we have in this age of mediocrity.....
hope that she will keep doing big things.....isn't tank a man?
PAMOJA!!!
Jennifer Hudson embodied the idea of being a "Dream Girl." Now, I do not want to stop the celebrating, but we as a people must make sure that we are not only acknowledged during Black History month, but all year long for our accomplishments. I am proud of Jennifer, I enjoyed the Dream Girl performance, and everything was simply magical. I pray that Jennifer continues to carry herself with dignity and grace.
PS. I love the way she continues to acknowledge Florenence B.
I agree with Zion.... J. Hud is the example of a leading lady for big women & black women. I'm so proud of her tho I didn't think her role in Dreamgirls was good enuff for the Oscar. She, Beyonce, Anika & Keith tore that stage up yet none of their songs won... BULLSHIT. Eddie not gettin his... BULLSHIT.
Congrats to Forrest, the 4th black man to ever win Best Actor. Sorry Leo, u will get urs soon. Will keep tryin. Celine Dion tore it up too, she's the only diva that can still sang her ass off. Nippy, Mimi & Toni... step yalls game up.
big ups to J-Hud but is that chick in the picture supposed to her? They must have photoshopped at least 70 pounds of her!damn
Congrats to Jennifer Hudson and Forest Whitaker. I enjoyed the Dreamgirls performance, all of them did their thang on the stage. Oh yeah and I love that song "patience".
You can watch the scene that catapulted Jenn right here:

having read many news paper repots online this morning, with regards to the oscar victories i feel the greatest need to comment on the reception of MELISSA ETHERIDGE. how dare so many people question her victory with comments such as 'did her fellow lesbian Ellen swing it for her..bla bla bla...' and questioning her actions as she 'planted a kiss' upon her wifes lips!!! Melissa Etheridge has earned her place in music...she has stood for what she believes in and is a postive role model of our times! I say this, not as a defender of my fellow lesbian...for i am not gay...i say this because i respect Melissa Etheridge for who she is and what she believes!
congratulations Jhud. and I thought I was the only one who noticed Eddie and Tracey hit immidiately after he lost his category. and soulman can we get more insight on Jamie and Tank, inquiring minds want to know
SOUND MIXERS DESERVE THEIR DUE. ENGINEERS HAVE THE ENTIRE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS ON THEIR (OUR) BACKS. ASK THESE WHACK MCS AND SINGERS THAT STILL SOUND GOOD ENOUGH ON RECORD FOR RADIO.
I am so happy for J. Hud and this is a true example of how our lives are governed by a higher power. It was truly talent and faovr that got her to this point. Now how was the performance? I did not see it.
I heard there was this huge billboard of the Norbit film outside the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars were taking place. That is not a good look for Eddie if he wanted people to take him seriously.
Congrats to JHud, she deserved it, she was a show stopper in that film. Although Beyonce's performance was good as well. Those Dreamgirls tracks were really good and am suprised they didn't win the best song gong. I have heard the winnig song so can't comment on whether it was deserving.
jennifer hudson can sing way better than beyonce. and beyonce have to let other people have some kind of spot light. shes always in the front. jennifer need to get alot of props because to me shes very talented. beyonce cannot blow all that good even though i like her music. jennifer is going to take her spot sooner or later. thats
People kill me when they say Norbit hurt Eddie's chances for an oscar. I give a big "What the Hell Ever" to them. What does one movie have to do with the other? If Eddie is truly an actor, shouldn't he be able to do both comedies and serious roles. Leo DiCaprio did a terrible movie called the Island and he is still considered serious. He was even on Growing Pains- think on that. I'm with Soulful- just a reminder of the more things change the more they stay the same....
Congrats to Jennifer! Although I thought she was great in the movie,I am not sure her performance was Oscar worthy. However I give her all the praises for her accomplishments! Go Jen,I am looking forward to seeing more of her work in the future.
I missed the first few moments of the DG performance, but I thought it was nice that Jen & Bey sang Listen. Although Listen is a very boring song.
Nori, The reason Norbit hurt was because it came out during Oscar voting. Bad movies need to be kept away until after Oscar voting is done. The producers even considered delaying the release of Norbit for that reason, but Eddie UNWISELY advised against it.
Well... I don't know what some of these people are talking about. "Listen" is anything but boring to me.
Congratulations to Jennifer Hudson!
But come on people... must we hate on Beyonce? She has earned her place in this business and she can definitely sing wonderfully. You must also give her props because throughout the two songs her and J.Hud sang together, Hudson was the focus. I'm sure that was hard for her to do, especially on "Listen."
It is sad that Eddie didn't win, but don't take it so personally. Of course Norbit affected his chance. These people on the Academy board are stuck up as hell. People should have learned this by now. He should have won it though. Oh well...
I honestly also think that if there weren't so much hype surrounding Jennifer, then the Academy would not have acknowledged her, that's just how stuck up they are. But now they see this is a time to build their image and credibility as an award show, and later they can say "we gave her her start. We made her the star she is." Y'all know it's the truth. LOL. Anyways... I'm out.

Go 'head with your talented self, Jennifer. But I must say this... Clive Davis better be really careful with her album. He better make sure it's fire, which I'm sure it'll be. Just do do any flavor of the month ish. Anyways... I'm out.
Congradulations to Jennifer!

Outside from the starTrek jacket...
I LOVE J Hud!!!
Me and my daughter was screaming 4 her when she won!
I sent out text messages and the whole nine.
Also, let's not 4get the well-deserved Oscar 2 FOREST WHITAKER!!!
I was wondering y jamie was a no-show but who cares?
It was Jennifer's night and I was elated 2 see her in her moment!
I wasn't sold on Eddie winning but that's another story...
damn J-Hud can get it in the most best of worse ways known to human life!!!!!
ya dig!!!!!!
Congratulations to JHud - she did a great job in DreamGirls even though it was her first time acting and all. I am proud of her. I hope she doesnt burn her bridges.
Eddie played the best part of his career, but he wasn't as good as Alan Arkin or Djimon Hounsou... You can't expect him to win just because he's black and he wants it bad... Go watch the other movies before you make outrageous suggestions that he was robbed.
Everyone who won should have won. Having just seen Little Miss Sunshine, Alan Arkin was a step above Eddie. Plus, you gotta play the game. Eddie Sh-t on his baby momma "Scary Spice" publicly. Then got with Baby Face's Gold Diggin' Ex-Wife. Then starred in a wack-ass movie that should have had any self respecting black woman picketing his foolish ass. The Oscars is political. Eddie lost track of that.
ok, ya'll sippin on the kool-aid too! that Little Miss Sunshine wasn't the hot of a movie, people pls check it out, the masses are trying to pull the wool over eyes again, trust! Alan Arkin got it because of perseverance, his role was not that outstanding. Eddie deserved that Oscar because he played the best role in that category, believe that! It was a white world, and they made us know it.
ok first CONGRATS JENNIFER!!! now the reason eddie didnt win had nothing to do with his being black the ppl he was going against did amazing jobs it was not racist if yall go and actually look at the other movies then yall will realize tht he shouldnt have won little miss sunshine was a grat movie so i mean seriously stop bein a__holes and tlkin bout its a white world and relaize tht in order to win u have to work harder than the rest and melissa etheridge won bcuz she had a great song with a great message the only other song tht coul have really competed with it was patience and was i the only one who saw a little rivalry goin on btwn JHud and B while they were performing but B brought it home at the end of Listen and Anika was great even though JHud aand B were both tryin to steal her shine
Really. What is Best Sound Mixing? Are they just making that up?
A guy walks into a bank and says to the teller at the window, "I want to open a fuckin' checking account"
To which the lady replied, "I beg your pardon, what did you say?"
"Listen up dammit, I said I want to open a fuckin' checking account right now."
"Sir, I'm sorry but we do not tolerate that kind of language in this bank!"
The teller left the window and went over to the bank manager and told him about her situation. They both returned and the manager asked, "What seems to be the problem here?"
"There's no damn problem," the man said, "I just won 50 million in the lottery and I want to open a fuckin' checking account in this damn bank!"
"I see sir," the manager said, "and this bitch is giving you a hard time?"
-------------
If you owe the bank $100, that's your problem. If you owe the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem.
