Aiight real quick, the back story on Amy is.... her first album, Frank, was in 2003. It's got Salaam Remi all over it. Jazz type feeling.
Fast forward a few years and Amy has added Mark Ronson to the mix and some personal experience and came up with Back to Black.
The first single, "Rehab," is about her former management company wanting her to check into an alcoholic rehab treatment facility. Listen to it here.
The second single is "You Know I'm No Good" featuring Ghostface Killah. Or at least that was the second single when the album was released in Europe back in October.
Back To Black is set to be released here in the states on March 13th, 2007.

This girl is big here in the UK. Her album has been in the charts a whiloe and has peaked at number 1. Her single 'Rehab' is very catchy and was also a huge hit. The album is fantastic and she got a great voice. She don't sound conceited or like blue eyed soul like Joss Stone or Lilly Allen. She is real soul and more talent. But with the talent comes a whole lot of mess. Tabloids claim she is a anorexic, alcoholic, druggy. I'm not sure about that, She used to be quite chunky and now she is skinny. I've seen her on TV and she alwys seems drunk or drugged but she is funny and has personality.
I don't know what to make of her ny- trash look, I mean we already have fergie. Her voice and music is unique enough to make an impression over here, but not with those two songs.

I love "You Know I'm No Good" with Ghostface on it. They play that alot here in NYC. I thought that GhostFace used a sample I had no idea that this was an artist that was out already. You learn new things everyday. I do like her voice it has an old school feel to it.

especially with back to black i think that an amy winehouse- lauryn hill comparison is absolutely appropriate. when amy goes on her vocal runs her tone is very similar to lauryns. no disrespect because from an artistic standpoint lauryn had a lot more to say and obviously she could flow which i dont even want to hear amy try to do. amy's voice also resembles billie holiday to me. i hear billie all over the first album and especially on "you know im no good".
its not disrespecting lauryn making the comparison. she isnt THE standard. there are a lot of really great singers to be referenced throughout history. this is the first time that someones thrown the lauryn comparison at the wall and its stuck. not for joss, not for anyone else. there arent THAT many people that get the lauryn comparison anyway.

Questlove comparing Amy to Lauryn is doing a BIG dis-service to Winehouse. I've had the album since October & although it is VERY good is can't compare to Lauryn PERIOD! I don't know if its conjecture or an attempt to build a buzz around the project, but U can't make such comparisons especially due to the fact this is her sophomore release. There is no need to categorize just enjoy the music for what it is.... Refreshing!

Only copycats try to sound like them, real singers and artiste sing in their natural voice and to not put on a false tone.
