February 2007 Archives
A few weeks back the New York Daily News ran eye witness accounts that Ciara was getting her creep on with 50cent deep in LeFrak City. Check it here.
Jennifer Hudson, The People's Princess. That's what Andre Leon Talley called her. The first time I heard that reference, was for Princess Diana... and it meant the people loved her, but the establishment didn't. Jennifer Hudson has just been named the best actress in her category this year.
And we know by Eddie Murphy's example, you can deserve to win and not.
Rich Harrison. You know the name. And if you don't know the name then you know the hits. He and Amerie developed a sound with her first album, All I Have. It's been recreated in Beyonce's "Crazy In Love", Jennifer Lopez's "Get Right" and of course A's "1 Thing".
For Amerie's forthcoming cd. Because I Love It, there is no sign of Rich Harrison. Read about why here.
Like when all producers blow up, they work with all the big names. But when the dust settles and they become a staple, sometimes new ventures are required to take it up a notch or two.
ENTER RICHCRAFT RECORDS!
The other day I was having a conversation about the upcoming Biggie anniversary and how his life after death has been so over celebrated/exploited that the upcoming ten year anniversary seems moot. Some respected hip hop heads are like... 'can we let go of the Big was the greatest propaganda and keep it moving?'
Should Fugee fanatics do the same?
Are y'all ready for them Brits? Is it me or are we going through a mini British invasion. Joss Stone has a new project. Lily Allen is making noise already. Is Corinne Bailey Rae British as well?
Also up in the mix in a major way is Amy Winehouse.
Toni Braxton went from filing a $10 Million lawsuit against Barry Hankerson, to re-filing her lawsuit at the state level to settling her case with Hankerson and Blackground Records altogether.
All to find out what we suspected all along.
Aiight y'all I can finally run the video I shot with Musiq Soulchild a couple of weeks ago. Musiq doesn't do that much press... especially online, but he looked out for us. I appreciate that. His new cd LUVANMUSIQ is due in stores March 13th.
You read it right. Those are media passes to Beyonce's exclusive post-Grammy party. I'll fill ya'll in later. I need to sleep this one off.
We'll start where we normally end. DAMN!
What a minute ain't that Brandy's brother?
You wanna know what grinds my gears, lack of privacy. Where does it say that a man, famous or infamous, can't hose down the sugar walls of a socialite in front of his mini-DV camera, from the privacy of his own bedroom, without it resurfacing at the Crenshaw Swap Meet?
I was politic'n with the peeps over at GIANT magazine earlier and was given a wake up call that I slept on the fact that Jennifer Hudson graces the cover of the Feb/March 2007 issue.
We all recall Mary J. Blige's public expression of disgust about her previous Vibe cover in December 2005. It was during the Vibe Awards that our girl from Yonkers kept it real while on stage receiving the magazine's coveted VLegend Award.
Since Mary is all renewed and enlightened, and Mimikins is no longer spinning webs over @ 215, Mary happily graces the cover of Vibe's "150th Collector's Edition Issue."
Thank God they got rid of that bubbly font! But they went overboard on the cover lines.
