December 2006 Archives

Earlier this month I wrote about meeting up with Omarion to talk shop about his new CD, 21. We've finally got some video footage.

British soulster Joss Stone opted for a deeper shade of soul by handing the production reigns to Raphael Saadiq for her new album.

SOHH it seems that life after "Making the Band" for songbird Dominique Young is pretty much like life on the hit reality series.

Remember The Time...

I was watching "Soul Train Classics" on that weird new CW network this past Saturday.

It was The Time's first ride on the hippest trip in America and Morris Day was slick, personified. Research The Time here.

When Bow Wow cancelled our face to face interview and opted for a phoner because he wasn't feeling well, he had no idea that I was invited his album release party that happened the previous night where he seemed to be feeling just fine.

You put that together.

Yesterday I went to the "Dreamgirls" Roadshow. You know the one where you pay $25 for this Broadway theater effect. The $25 includes a 50 page color booklet, no previews, an authentic movie poster and some other random swag.

Last night I was invited to central New Jersey to hang out at JOE's dope ass mansion and recording studio.

Many of you are probably like Joe Who? Suprisingly that is name of his new album which features the new single "If I Was Your Man" and "Where U At" featuring Papoose.

Jennifer Hudson, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her supporting role in "Dreamgirls," has turned down several film offers to focus on her music career according to her agents at William Morris.

Aiight... sohh, I'm not sure whether it was Tyrese or Black Ty that called me this past Friday, but I talked on the phone with one of them kats about the new cd Alter Ego.

From jump street I was wondering two things. Why would he change his name when the Tyrese brand name is so strong and who the fuck was he trying to impress?

According to the world's smartest men...

Yesterday I made an early pilgrimage downtown to meet up with Omarion to talk shop on his new cd 21 and why we still see him as just that dude from B2K.

Prince, who recently scored five Grammy nominations for 3121, including Best R&B album, may also snag an Oscar nomination for "Song of the Heart" from the "Happy Feet" soundtrack according to a list of 56 eligible songs released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

If nominated this will be his second trip to the ceremony; the first being his big win in 1984 for "Purple Rain" as Best Original Song Score.

Aiight y'all today is December 12th and Fantasia's CD is released today. Homegirl had yet another date with me this past Saturday that she cancelled. But yet she's been parading all through New York City with Missy Elliot and such. She even showed up on the "Today Show."

She performed "When I See You" -- as usual the voice was sweet as hell but is Fantasia still an American Idol?

When I first interviewed Rihanna, she was still giddy about all the Beyonce comparisons.

“Beyonce… I get a lot of comparisons to her and that’s amazing. There is no artist to be better compared to than her. I adore her as an artist,” says Rihanna.
(if I had time I'd upload the embarassing audio)

Well aside from weave, wardrobe, close proximity to Jay Z and aspirations to be a bigger pop star than Janet, I'd like to add another similarity or burgeoning similarity. OVEREXPOSURE. Is Rihanna next in line for overexposure?

Do The Streets Upgrade Beyonce

We ain't had a DING! blog in a minute...

So... "Irrepleceable" is the number one song in the country. Kudos to Beyonce for great arrangement and delivery. Kudos to NeYo for being so slick with the pen. It's a really good song. But...

Waddup my peeps. As I sit here typing this I am recovering from a hangover and watching Fantasia on the "Today Show." Yup, Fanny is in New York and she has still yet to go out on a date with me.

Tank became a friend to The Wendy Williams Experience on Monday. And quite strangely there was no "HOW YOU DOING" sound effects played in the background.

Brian McKnight has my respect. But why is it after 10 studio albums we really know nothing about him?

"Being an enigma is kind of a purposeful thing that I've done. None of this has been about me. It's completely been about the music. When I say that people take that to mean that I am full of myself, but it's actually the opposite. It's kinda hard to describe who I am. I'm two poeple, and I guess that is where the Gemini duality comes from. On the one end I am this guy that writes these songs and goes out on stage, the other guy is a very regular guy. Like right now I am playing golf while I do this interview. I am so far removed from that guy when I don't have to be him," says Brian McKnight to SOHH Soulful.

As many of you already know Amerie is set to release her third studio album early next year. The official first single is called "Take Control." The SOULMAN got with "A" this past Friday to chop it up on how she decided on the direction of this cd. (Fantasia, you hear that.... AMERIE ACTUALLY SHOWED AND PROVED!)

So now that John Legend's Once Again has marinated, what do you think? Is "Stereo" not one of the dopest tracks? Isn't "Again" and "Once Again" the shit 'good' music is made of?
