Emily King Rocks the Soul, SOHH Soulful Top 5

Last night I headed down to Crash Mansion here in NYC for the first ever SINGERSROOM R&B showcase. The featured artists were Chrisette Michelle, Emily King and Johnta Austin.

Chrisette is the chick featured on Jay Z's "Lost Ones" and she is also featured on a few of the new Nas tracks being pimped across the internet and the privileged radio stations. She, in a few people's opionion is sorta Jaguar Wright but NOT quite.

Johnta closed the show. His set was uber brief. I missed seeing him on stage but I did get my diddy bop on backstage as I took in the very soulful Emily King.

When I first spoke on Emily back in the summer I wasn't moved. I don't mean that in a bad way, I just wasn't moved. However seeing her live performance changed things. Emily still has that untainted integrity. She's very honest in her conversation and in her performance.

What I like most is when a performer gets on stage and forgets that there is an audience and grooves to their own shit. That usually only happens when songs are classic or still new in an artists repetoire. I'm not sure which is the case for Emily but she grooved to her own songs which was contagious with the audience.

I do need to see her a few more times, but I think Emily King may just be bonafide. Just maybe. Listen.

And check her out at myspace.com/emilykingmusic!

Elsewhere, Beyonce released a video for the single "Listen" from B'Day, inspired by "Dreamgirls."

Fantasia released her new video for "Hood Boy" as well.

(damn that voice is sweet as fuck)

But while you were wondering if it took this long for the video to be released because it's wack as hell, we were STILL waiting on Fantasia's call, watching analysts lower her first week sales projections and compiling our

Mary J. Blige is one of the best R & B singers around...Class act all the time!!!!...

Preach
Runaway

Damn Soulman...

I thought the Fantasia video was okay. I need to do videos b/c I was thinking get about 50 fines as brtohas put those asses in a whitebeater and some jeans, and some fresh A1's and go down the line taking measurements - let backdrop be a stable - hey is sounds good to me...lol But she did the damn thang on Jay Leno last nigth but her dam dress was hideous - other than that - that girl is the truth!

I can't do Bey today! I am Beyed out!

I like Emily King - kinda sounds familiar to me but it's okay I guess.

My Top five Soulful

4. Bilal - White Turns to Gray
3. Chris Brown - Poppin
2. Fantasia - Hood Boi
1. Luda ft Mary - Runaway Love

My top 5 HipHop
5. Jigga - Dig A Hole
4. Clispe - Ain't Cha
3. Nas - Hustlas & Blood Diamonds
2. Diddy ft Cee-Lo & Nas - Everything I Love
1. Clipse ft Bilal - NightMares

Good Morning.

I actaully like Brian Mcknight's new song. The radio station plays it too often thats how I get to like it so much.

2rttn:

Girl that is my favorite song on janet jackson cd.

Hey, did ya'll hear that the original Effie from the Broadway show is pissed off that she didn't get a call or cameo in the movie.

Oh yeah, Good Morning Mr. SoulMan

Emily King sounds kinda AKeys during the Fallin Era - ya know. AKeys voice is a bit stronger and raspy now but yeah she is similar - but she sounds good - her voice is a lil sweeter.

I WANT MAXWELL I WANT MAXWELL I WANT MAXWELL I WANT MAXWELL!

Soulman:
What up with Tamar? I need some tracks or something!

KSH
What's good girlfriend?

Layla
You know I love that whole cd but her slow jams are fire (as usual). What's even funnier is my hubby puts it on repeat! LOL

2rttn:
I think that should be her next single. I will be sohh excited if it is.

Layla
Although I love the song, I doubt very seriouslt that it will come as a single.
She will probably have to keep the uptempo/midtempo joints to get additional sales. (IMHO)
She still has a few that can come out though....

Soulman

I think you are being a little hard on Tasia but I like the new single not crazy about the look but it will grow on me. I'm feelin that Danity Kane too.

Morning All...

Im feelin the Emily King, no complaints at all...

Hood Boi is growing on me, but it just reminds me of a lower class "Soldier" from DC or "I need a Boss" from Shareefa...can we get a song that isn't almost a carbon copy of songs that haven't even been out 3 years...

Don't have a top 5 but Poppin (Chris Brown), Promise (Ciara), & You (Lloyd & Weezy) stays in rotation in the ride...

CHRISETTE MICHELE IS AMAZING. WITH THE RIGHT TEAM, SHE'LL BE A SUPERSTAR!!! HER PERFORMANCE LAST NIGHT WAS THE BEST!!!

I WANT MAXWELL I WANT MAXWELL I WANT MAXWELL I WANT MAXWELL!

LOL @ the Soulman Fantasia battle. Why you wanna talk to her so bad anyway? The video is cool when I heard the song I was sure this would be a HAM video but its not half bad.

Beyonce Beyonce Beyonce...truthfully tired of seeing her all the damn time."Get outta my FACE!!"

and you know Mary puts it down.

Tas
That would be great for her if she did become a superstar. But since Soulman had compared her to Jaguar Wright...Jaguar IS THE SHIT and she barely made a splash.
Hopefully the same doesn't happen to Chrisette

You coppin that Trick Daddy album? After that last bullshit he put out I was done with him. And his new single isnt that strong either. Chamillionaire couldnt even save that track.

But if he got Weezy on it then its gotta be hot.

But Trick Daddy has fallen off somethin serious though.

LOL, nevermind...

2Rttn4U

I was wondering the same thing! Is it Tha Nas? Tha Nigga? or The End? I dont get it. lol

But the video is hot. I like the way he flipped the beat again. Thats just a hot ass beat. he could flipped that 2 or 3 times.

From what I heard so far Nas should have a pretty strong album.

naj
I know it was you I was just messin' LOL

2rtt4u:

How you been? I know it's been a minute, but I ain't forgot bout you?

qUE:

I got that new Trick Daddy in CDQ. It's not spectacular, but it's WAY better than that last album. He has a song with Rick Ross and David Banner...IF that song becomes his second single, I PROMISE niggaz will fuck with this album. But the new Jeezy is the shit...TRUST ME.

my top five:

5) Still 'to da left'- I don't think I'll get tired of this song
4) 'Sohh excited'
3) Robin Thicke album
2) J. Holiday and Hudson versions of 'and I am telling you'. The original is classic and the new version does it justice.
1) Has to be Mary 'We Ride'. I love the bit where the heavy bass come in

Que
Dayum...I can't see the videos til I get home.
I'm sure Nas will be fine. Surprisingly, I actually like JayZ cd (most of it anyway).

Chevy
I'm good. Killing time as usual. lol
Chillin'....

Chevy

Yeah, alot of cats hate on Jeezy. Ofcourse he's not a lyrical genius. But, this nigga knows how to make a record. U cant deny that.

And this nigga production is top notch. Shawty Redd is a beast.

naj:
I caught Nas Access Granted - I was impressed I like the video a lot! It was not what I was expecting but it was good. Actually it was better than I expected.

YOU ALREADY HAVE A EMBRYO

Banga!:
Don't you ever come at me like that about no damn Maxwell...lol

I can't go from Reggie Bush to Maxwell - that ain't even right :-) You ain't right at all!!!!

2rtt4u:

As long as you good, I'm good.

qUE:

I feel that. Shawty Red only did 3 tracks on this album. Timbaland, Kanye West, The Runners, and DJ Toomp does most of the production. But Mr. Collipark (the cat with Ying-Yang Retards) has the hardest beat on the album. I was suprised.

2Rttn4U

Well, theres nothing really special about the vid, but you can feel the vibe from it though. Like this nigga Nas has some heat waitin, type of vibe you know. LIke this was just getting the people warmed up.

And I never was a Nas fan. I thought his flow was a little boring. (*awaiting uproar from the Hip Hop purist*) lol.

Notice I said his flow, not his lyrics people. lol
But I am anticipating this album tho. I might actually biy it this time. lol

YOU ALREADY HAVE A EMBRYO
