Ciara vs Gwen Stefani, Marsha From Floetry Gets New Flo-acist

If you know the SOULMAN then you know I love a battle. And no I am not talking about the pending battle between me and Fantasia (Fanny stood me up again here in NYC last week). I'm talking about the war being waged between Gwen Stefani and new SOHH Soulful favorite Ciara.

Both chicks got heat. Gwen, come on... Gwen been doing the damn thing for a while now. "Wind it Up" the new single from The Sweet Escape is bangin'. Pharrell did what he do and put the stank on it but for some reason Gwen doesn't necessarily own the track the way she does "Holla Back Girl". In the live show, something is missing.

But check the official video.

Artistically Gwen ain't to be fucked with. She still got the Hirajuku Girls behind her; bleach blond wigs in tow. The spin on the "G" to speak to the high fashion persona, Gucci, L.A.M.B., Pharrell's influence and his thing with Louis Vuitton. It's all dope.

As I asked last week, if you only have $9.99 and you are in one of those Super Wal Mart's that sell groceries, tires and guns under the same roof, will you pick up Gwen or Ciara. They are both dropping on the same day.

Ciara who is packaging her CD with an instructional dance DVD ain't to be overlooked for the very same reasons. She has 'evolved' her look, took her sexy up a knotch and all that. I wasn't expecting the "Promise" video to be as dope as it is. And just think ladies, if you purchase the CD legally you can learn those dance steps from "Promise."

SOHH, if all that I just gave you still ain't enough, listen to the full Gwen Stefani CD The Sweet Escape here. But wait, there's more, listen to the full Ciara CD The Evolution here.

Lastly, Marsha formerly of Floetry is on the Nas track "Hustlas" with Game. Love that shit don't ya. Listen here.

Hello everyone.

If I had the money, I would buy ciara's album because I like her music and the way she dances. Gwen's new song "wind it up" is ok but I like ciara's song better. I don't see a comparison between Ciara and Gwen but I do think that Fergie and Gwen has similar styles.

Yes I am first bitches. I wouldn't buy either. But will download some songs of their if they sound good. Neither can sing but they have some bangin' joints. Oh and they do look fiiine.

Good morning Soulman!

Ciara or Gwen...tough call! Kinda reminds me of the Janet or Madonna back in the day. :)

I'll give both cd's a listen though on the stream and make my decision after. You gotta love the internet. At the end of the day it can save you $9.99.

I am personally sick of white chicks with questionable singing ability rap-speaking over semi-hot beats (a la Gwen, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, etc). I will NEVER purchase anything from Gwen, though I thought her No Doubt style was really fly back in the day. Now, its just kind of tired.

And isn't it funny how black folk are so critical of ladies such as Cassie, Ciara, Rihanna, and many others for not being able to "sing", but then condone Gwen and Fergie. Why are we harder on black artists when it comes to stuff like that? Just some food for thought...

And while I must admit Ciara's Promise video made me look at her in a totally different way, I am still gonna hold off on the album. I have trouble taking her "artistry" seriously and am not a huge fan of her voice.

Hey LAYLA!

I ain't comparing the two musically I am just acknowledge that two pop queens are releasing cds on the same day.

GP-

See I say the same damn thing. But the one slight difference is that Gwen and Fergie both can sing. The just choose this choppy rapper singer style. Similar to the way Chris Brown and Destiny's Child kinda rap sings but we know they can blow if they want.

SoulMan:
I def was a Hollaback Girl - but I can not stand that damn circus act called "Wind It Up" - why is Gwen trying so hard to be different when she is anyway? Hell I like Fergalicious better and Will.I.Am is becoming my favorite producer these days.

My last 9.99 - I gotta take Ciara - that "Promise" , "Like A Boy" are my favs so far. I am going to take a listen to Gwen's again b/c it is cool but I will take Ciara this time.

And my 2 new jams of the week are Runaway Love (Luda ft Mary) and Poppin (Chris Brown) -- aaaahhhhh

Too many hip hop - my ipod will explode in a minute!

I may give both Gwen and Ciara a chance. I'm really not a fan of either, but I wanna see what the hype is about.

Umm...that new Nas is crack. Can't wait til that album drops. Game is slowly starting to solidify his name in the game. That's my new dude.

What up Page Black?

Soulman, Ima need you not to be all day with getting this blog up. You got me spoiled now with the early post. You play too much LOL.

Ciara or Gwen? I've always liked Gwen, just not enough to cop her CD. I think my like of her is more on her steez and essence than anything else, kinda like Kelis. Ciara... I dont even really "like" her LOL... but I think its because all the dancing throws me. She's growing on me, so if I absolutely had to choose, Ciara gets my 9.99. But I'd show Gwen a lil download love on bout 2 or 3 tracks.

The Nas joint is hot, but thats stating the obvious.

Soulman, Ima need you to gimme the scoop on J. Holiday. I been playin this "Be With Me" for 3 days.

Intervention!

GRRR

what ever happened to shareefa, i heard she was doin mariah numbers.

What's up Soul Man!

sorry for the double post.lol

Wow.

Nasir Jones has officially restored my faith that he can do it again. Marsha is officially the hook girl for bangin hip hop.

I just get worried that being a Dre project we may have to wait until 2010 for an album from her, because after all, the Truth Hurts...ooooooooooh.

Soulfolks, mornin.

KSH, my ipod is happy like the first big girl in the buffet line. She's like "Feed Me Seamour!"

Yeah Verbal...when he focuses on some real shit, he's a problem, seriously.

If Jigga needed inspiration to get back to Blueprint, he will because Nas will probably trump Kingdom Come, not in sales necessarily but in street acceptance.

"Feed me all night long"...lmao

Yeah this ipod is gonna be full as hell this season.
My Xmas tree is gonna be banging - and don't let Santa mess around and leave me a duplicate of the Ciara microphone under my tree ---- aaaaaaahhhhh Ima have a coke and a smile :-)

I co-sign that. Never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm disappointed in that Kingdom Come album. I gave it a couple good listens and haven't put it back in rotation since last week. I'm too caught up on that Snoop and Game right now. I'm just waiting for my Nas fix.

I DON'T LIKE GWEN OR FERGIE.

Sidebar: I don't like Rachel Ray.

I really don't inderstand the comparison between gwen and ciara. there sound isn't even close to being similar and they have to completely different styles.

wind it up has a good beat ande i give gwen props for being different but sometimes i think she tries to hard.

ciara sticks with what she knows but it keeps it innovativeby having different rap artists spice up her tracks. also, i like how she keeps it real with the atl rappers always on her tracks.

check out hi-flitones.com

hey everyone
I would buy Ciara's cd first got to show support.
Gwen performance of her song wind it up was not good the beat is hot but the song is not.

"and if I'm sane then that Soul Plane movie's the bomb
word to my mom's name that's tatooed on my arm!"

Jeez...
Verbal, Jigga is already back in the studio.

Soulman: Ok, I will give you a pass this time. I got a caffeine habit myself LOL.

*shaking empty cup*

Whats up folks…

I know this is totally coming out of left field but hear me out for a second…
I just wanted to let everyone that I talk to have shared comments with and even the folks just reading along (I know you out there cause I use to be one too), that I really appreciate the conversations we have on this blog… Whether it is about music, politics or the occasional sex talk… I just want to say that I have truly enjoyed and respected each and every one of you guys. From Trissa who always stays true to herself, to KSH who stays on real. An to all the ones that was on here before I ever posted a comment…From naj who was the first person to every reply to a comment of mine. To chevy who always stays gutter, to dig who kept the intelligence flowing in the room even when it would always veer off… I just want to let you guys know that I have really appreciated these times… An I know I missed a few people …Slim…but trust its not intentional its just too many to name sometimes….

And whats the reason for this you ask…
I just don’t want anybody out reading to get the wrong ideal or think its one sided in here… or all we do is talk about 1 thing…this is a blog…people talk…and really its not that serious.

And to Soulman thanks for the topics… and giving us a place to discuss them.

CJP: Thats wassup. Thanks for disspelling the myth that Soulful is the online cosa nostra LOL. Just lies, I tell ya, LOL. Really though, good shit. We 'preciate you too, homie..... um....... you gon drink that? LOL

Dig

Thank you...Now can you please get your hand away from my Mojito...

I think I would buy Gwen's CD with the $$$ she went in a more R&B direction and pushed the envelope musically. Ciara's Evolution was a let down for me.

I have downloads and reviews of both Gwen and Ciara @ http://yngblackman.blogspot.com

CJP ain't shit homie.

People got it fucked up from jump street. As long as you know and we know the deal...hey.

Hey to my real people....

If I had $9.99 and a gun to my head I'd prolly cop Ciara on the strength that even though I really dont think she can sing I dig her style and I appreciate her for creating a lane of her own....She even won me over with "Get Up"....

Gwen is cool but she was better with No Doubt...she be trying to hard...

Soulman did you say that Gwen and Fergie could really sing? ..... What is your definition of singing? Cause I dont know about that one...

BTW:
I love Rachel Ray..
30 minute meals and $40 A Day is the shit!....Why is people hating on her!

I can't believe its almost December and its hot outside!

I have the solution go get the DREAMGIRLS soundtrack which also drops on DEC. 5th!

I hope it goes number 1.

Gwen hell to the no, did you see that whack ass white girl on the AMAs, me and my friends were like is this a fucking joke, please she can't sing and the bad things is people buy that bs because of the beats but ain't no beat good enough for me to purchase that mess, but I will buy Ciaras cd for my daughter cuz she love her some Ciara ok, I listened to her cd and it's just ok but I'll buy Ciara over Gwen whack ass anyday, but white people love that no singing white girl LOL.

Good Morning SoulFolks!

Gwen vs Ciara. There is no comparison. Their completly different. Imo.

I'm not feeling the "Wind it Up" joint. She should've kept it "Holla Back Girl" style. Now Fergie came in a took over. Straight "Swagger jacked" Gwen son! lol

What happened with Rachel Ray and Oprah?

Layla

Gurl, where u at? Im in SC and it got up to 80 degreez yesterday!!!! WTF????

Gobal Warming ya'll, its real.

See I say the same damn thing. But the one slight difference is that Gwen and Fergie both can sing. The just choose this choppy rapper singer style. Similar to the way Chris Brown and Destiny's Child kinda rap sings but we know they can blow if they want.

Posted by: SOHH Soul Man at November 29, 2006 10:20 AM

No they can't sing that's why they rap/sing or whatever ya call it, name me one song they sang in and it sounded like they were singing Ciara, Janet etc actually are singing not rapping LOL, both them white girls are whack sorry, I ain't with all the hype on them, I can't see fast the whack ass lyrics LOL.

Ciara will be getting my $$ next week. I wasn't to impressed with the new song by Gwen. I thought she kind of came up short with the song. Her performance was kind of wack. She has some competition over her with Fergie and Nelly. They know what deal is they want some heat for their records. I like Gwen's last album but I need to listen to the entire record before I spend my hard earned money. That Game cd is what's really good. Don't know about Jay's cd because I really didnt like his first single and I haven't seen that many good reviews for it either besides the jockers. I love the Nas joint "Hip Hop just died this morning" Cant wait to get that.
--Marsha love her voice on the hip hop beats. Thats a good look.

That chick from Floetry can sing her ass off!

quE:

I'm in the N.O. right now and was hot as hell yesterday.

Co-Mutherfucking SIGN

At least Janet and Ciara attempt to sing...even though they really can't they put forth the effort...

CJP:
Aaaahhhhh that is so sweet...."I would like to thank my mama and dem..."

For real no worries about that - we talk about whatever we want up in this piece - no xplaining necessary - now drop dem draws...lol I'm jus sayin

Oh wait Ciara has 18 songs on her CD!! I'm defintely going to get that especially since I felt jipped that when I bought Ding's!! CD it was more like a $1.00 a song I could have bought that from itunes.

What up yall? Page Black, glad to see you in the building...

^^^^^

Whaddup Dig! Yeah..things are dead at the J.O.B. so I figured I'd give my 2 cents on here for Soulman today!

Rachel Ray....yeah i too beleived the hype and thought Oprah had created another...but I dont know about this one. She is BORING as hell!

I heard this Nas joint yesterday and thought it was bananas! Between Jigga and Nas and Jim Jones...I thinks NYC about to reclaim that glory.

Layla

Hell yeah it was. Me, I'm a winter person. I wait all year just for this season. I like Fall/Winter fashion better than Spring and Summer. But I cant even wear my shit, because its to damn hot!

I cant believe its almost December and I still got white tees in rotation. Something's not right here! lol

How was the Classic this year?
