November 2006 Archives

Last night I headed down to Crash Mansion here in NYC for the first ever SINGERSROOM R&B showcase. The featured artists were Chrisette Michelle, Emily King and Johnta Austin.

If you know the SOULMAN then you know I love a battle. And no I am not talking about the pending battle between me and Fantasia (Fanny stood me up again here in NYC last week). I'm talking about the war being waged between Gwen Stefani and new SOHH Soulful favorite Ciara.

Let me first start by thanking Miss Jones on Hot 97 here in New York City for using sound effects to fire off 50 gun shots to let the public hear just how obsessive the NYPD can be. FUCK THE POLICE!

Moving on... Yesterday I received an email about a Blind Item from an entertainment attorney that says a major R&B phenom has been using a ghost singer for years.

Ciara who is set to release her sophomore cd, Ciara: The Evolution next week get's greasy is in the December/January issue of GIANT magazine.

While you were debating whether Black Friday had anything to do with the Million Man March we were watching "Judge Hatchette", STILL waiting on Fantasia's phone call and compiling our

SOHH SOULFUL TOP 5 SONGS OF THE MOMENT!

What do we really think of this Tyrese alter ego thing... no really?

Here is what I think.

Fantasia. Where do I begin. This is turning out to be a love/hate relationship.

Janet Jackson, who according to

(no she's not pregnant)

When I was leaving the Mario, Fantasia, Tyrese concert this past Wednesday I ran into Nicole Wray standing under the marquee outside the Supper Club looking kinda hot.

I've been seeing John Legend pop up all over the place. Just yesterday he performed "Heaven" on "Ellen," when it hit me.

R&B songstress turn rocker, Pink has got it in for Beyonce and her insistence on wearing fur.

Come on Bey, fur is so prehistoric.

Does anyone think it's strange that BET decided to broadcast the first annual Hip Hop Awards on the same night as the live broadcast of the World Music Awards?

As we all discovered on Friday (Nov. 10), R&B heavyweight Gerald Levert took leave of all earthly knowings and dwellings. SOHH.com/SOHH Soulful mourns his passing and celebrates his life.

Ne-Yo is among those few singer/songwriters that make sense. Like Johnta and increasingly similar to Babyface , his vocals distinctively listenable, his style is timeless. More and more we are seeing his work as executive producer which might soon be just as sought after as 16 bars from his boss during that brief retirement.

I spent the better half of the evening yesterday hanging out with Akon and his camp. Akon, who is set to release Konvicted on November 14th, was prepping for an "AOL Sessions" performance. This would be the first time I've seen him perform live.

Last night Matthew Knowles filled up the SONY Music Studios on 54th Street in Manhattan with a who's who of music industry tastemakers to showcase the new artist signed to Music World Entertainment.

Onlookers were treated to performances by groups like 2 Much, the one Matthew and Omarion have teamed together to promote, as well as Dionne Farris, Sunshine Anderson, NEXT (yes RL, Tweety and T-Lo), MoJo and a few others.

Usher has been a busy dude lately. We all know about his turn in the Broadway musical Chicago as the fast talking attorney Billy Flynn.

He has also been busy launching his new label Us Records which is the home to boy band One Chance and Latin-flavored homeboy Rico Love. But word on the street is that homeboy is getting anxious and is ready for his own time in the booth.

If you were out spending your whole month's rent last Friday night, then you missed Michael Jackson on "Access Hollywood." I warned you last week that the King of Pop is back. Acess caught up with Michael in the studio with Will.I.Am.

Justin Timberlake is doing the damn thing. For all those that hated on him along the way, it's time to drop it. Get off your high horse and drink this white milk like the rest of world. Because it's clear this kat is going nowhere but straight to the top.

If you are compiling your holiday wish list, then don't forget to include Mary J. Blige. The long rumored greatest hits, Reflections: The Journey, will finally be released on December 12th.

Imma be easy on Gwen Stefani's sophomore effort, Sweet Escape. I won't big her up just yet. Nor will I spew venom. I do admit that this white chick gets me in a bit of a panic.
