Promises, Promises, Promises. Usually the promises that are made by recording artists is to restore music to a certain state; to take it back so to speak. As of late, the promises have been about personal evolutions. Ciara's forthcoming sophomore CD is titled Evolution.
Recently Ciara gave MTV a preview of her CD that features an untitled track produced by Lil Jon and will.i.am shows up on "Do It". Check it out via YouTube.com:
Ain't that funny? I remember a very similar interview years ago on MTV where Janet previewed Rhythm Nation for Kurt Loder. Same hair style and all. Anybody remember that... either I am getting old or MTV is grooming their next 'icon' using the exact same blueprint.
Today, Robin Thicke, the soulful white chocolate crooner shares his own personal evolution as his sophomore CD The Evolution of Robin Thicke hits shelves. For many, Robin might be Justin Timberlake's placeholder in Pharrell's catalog but don't be fooled. Although homeboy isn't my personal favorite, he deserves his own well earned praise.
He has some pretty good live performances on YouTube. Check him out.
Lastly, there was an evolution that's been bubbling under for quite a while but has just recently come to many people's attention. Monica, the real Monica takes center stage today as she releases The Makings of Me, which features production from Swizz Beats, Missy Elliott and SOHH Soulful favorite Jermaine Dupri.
There have been a lot of gripes lately that Monica has dumbed down her music for the sake of selling to a new generation of fans. Monica insists that she's just representing her hood and doing her. In the beginning there was a lot of push back, but once homegirl opens that mouth to sing, all naysayers stand down.
Watch her performance of "Everytime Tha Beat Drops" on David Letterman.
Also listen to the remix to "Everytime Tha Beat Drops" featuring T.I. and Jeezy.
One of the favorites from her CD is "Raw". Have a listen.

What's up Soulman and everyone else? I actually like ciara's new song promise and as for monica, I hope she does well in her records sells.
Yeah Ciara is looking very Janet-esque!!
But I love the remix with TIP and Jeezy!
Robin Thicke is that shit!!!
But I am still lovestoned so...lol
Monica was on Doug Banks this AM talking with DeDe and the interview was very candid and she is cool.
She talked about the bf committing suicide, and his kids and her and Brandy and how she looks up to Mary J Blige.
But live this girl is emaculate. She don't miss a bit. Her live is better than her studio voice and that is rare.
Monica my get a lil support from me. I don't know but I am liking "Everytime the Beat Drops" more and more.
What's up folk? I will be coppin' that Robin Thicke as soon as I leave the j.o.b.
Soulman,
When does that Ciara drop again?
Yeah Monica gotta do a ballad or something b/c her voice is too good for some of these songs she is singing.
"RAW" is alright but I would like to hear just a little smidget of the young Monica in there somewhere.
Robin Thicke - perfecto hombre!
.
I though robin thicke was a new artist but didn't he come out with a song a couple of years ago. what was the name of that song?
Layla:
I don't know but I will be buying that CD before the week is out!
I am going to put him next to JT and let them work it in the CD changer...lol
They might have some of his old jams on VH1
He had video for it and that was when he had long hair.
I checked out the Robin Thicke this morning on iTunes. I don't want to be labeled as a hater or anything like that, but to me, it just sounds like a JT album that could've easily been recorded between Justified and Future. I mean, some songs he actually sounds just like JT. With that said, I will give it a few chances and see what happens. I do like the production of the beats so his falsetto might grow on me.
Morning, people.
I dont care for the Monica song. I like the track but what she's talkin about doesnt go with it. I dont know about nobody else but I feel like she's crying wolf on this album. She is trying way too hard to convince the audience that she's hardcore and street. Just say it one time and keep it moving. Spend the rest of the album SHOWING us the hood in you. Sorry, Monica. You need more people.
Love Robin Thicke and I love this song. Not a whole lot else to say about that. (See Willy, it is possible to like both! Drop your sword and come wade in the JT whirlpool, LOL.)
Not much to say about Ciara. I'd like to see her step outside of that box she's been put in, but Im rooting for her. I think she has a lot of potential.
I know one thing, I will be glad to have this whole Janet thing over with. I thought it was bad when Bey's CD was about to drop. SHEESH!
KSH:
That's going to be a lot of white chocolate soul going on in that CD changer of yours...lol. Jokes aside, they both are talented dudes.
I AM PROUD OF CIARA, I LIKE HER WAAAAYYYY BETTER THEN BEYONCE, AND IF JANET DOES HAVE TO PASS THE TORCH I WOULD RATHER IT BE CIARA VERSUS BEYONCE. CIARA IS GROWING, AND SHE WILL BLAZE HER OWN TRAIL, AND LET THE OTHER GIRLS KNOW WHO'S RUNNING THE SHOW. CIARA IS DOING A DAMN THING. BABY JANET. AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM DO SOMETHING TOGETHER. THAT WOULD BE HOTT TO DEF!!!!
BC: Yeah I got that JT vibe too. But I like the JT - and the Robin is a nice compliment to JT's. Robin has a smoother flow and JT has more of a pop feel.
But I gotta go get some info on Joss Sotne and Eve.
Eve gotta a single and video coming out before the end of the year. So I am trying to get the scoop.
verbal_entercourse:
Yeah I called my hubby and told him to go and pick up Robin Thicke for me. And he was like dam you on the white chocolate - you trying to tell me something?...lol
Dig: You better tell Willyj...lol
I will definately b coppin that robin thicke. im a JT fan also but robin jus has more soul
KSH:
So, now I guess you're waiting for John B to drop something else, huh?!? Lol
verbal_entercourse:
Oh my. Now that would be a treat...lol I don't know if i can't take anymore.
But that Donell Jones is the real deal. Even though he ain't white chocolate that CD is smooth.
As far as Ciara, you can say she can't sing, you can sing she wants to be Janet or whatever, but the girl works her ass off. I don't think she has taken a break since her last album.
Monica? Damn. I really wanted to like this monica CD, but as of right now, I'm not feelin it. It sounds rushed to me as though the producers just had some beats chillin on the computer and Monica went in the studio and 32 minutes later came out with a song. I'm gonna listen to it again though. She's been on hiatus for what like 3 years? Her album should've been so hot and deep.
KSH: You know Willy be trippin LOL. And let me find out the two lil white boys you manage are working the jedi mind trick on you LOL.
As for new music today, I didn't forget Sleepy Brown. My video interview with him goes live tomorrow morning. Aiight, I'm out.
Speaking of Sleepy Brown. I'm kinda disappointed he didn't get more promotion that what he has for this album. I just saw the first commmercial for his album on yesterday. That's my dude right there. Definitely gon cop that off GP.
Soulspects, Sohhul Man...1 and only post today.
I gotta comment on the whole JT/ Robin Thicke comparison. How can Robin sound like Justin when he's had that sound for longer or at least been recording that way for a minute?
Only reason we are comparing them is skin color. Two totally different albums--apples and oranges. JT's album has a bigger sound (Timbaland) and Thicke is a little more stripped down, Robin Thicke comes closer to Jon B if you want to compare.
JT is discotheque, Robin is smoky lounge.
Soulman tell me you have some new shit from Sleepy. We go way back to Fonky Ride on Southernplayalistic...did it actually come out today?
Back to the grind like a big girl on rollerskates...
Damn Eagles...SK is doin the runnin man as we speak.
KSH: You know Willy be trippin LOL. And let me find out the two lil white boys you manage are working the jedi mind trick on you LOL.

Haha!! Girl these two bombs get on my last nerve. I told them they got one more time to be late in the is bitch...lol Girl I have to talk to them like I do my 10 year old b/c that is what they act like. I told them I will be glad when I get some Black interns...lol
I told them just b/c I am bumping JT right now don't mean shit for them b/c they can't dance or sing.
Ahh Ciara, I look forward to her album. It appears she's grown as an artist and not just relying solely on her looks for fame.
Oh and congratulations to all you Janet fans. She's done well sales-wise. WTF is Alan Jackson?
Good morning to the usual 6 people who post 20 comments before the rest of us can post 2 on the subject.
Holla atcha boy
The best Track on the monica Cd is "Get Away" Period HomeGirl Needs To Dump issy's Ass Production wise missy's stuff where crappy on this album.
Robin Thicke is crazy. For all those who haven't heard his first album released before JT's first solo album, this has always been his sound. What we should talk about is how JT thinks he is Michael, Prince, & Usher.
Yeah MTV did do a interview like that with Janet, but it's all good, happy for Ciara and yes she does remind us of Janet but that's who she said she grew up wanting to be like, so good luck to her, they say she can't sing either but she doing her thang and so is Janet, did anyone see on the news where it said Janet just set a new genius book record for most searched person on the internet, WTF.
KSH: LMAOOOOOO! You aint right, LOL.
Hi everyone, usually i don't post but...
@Lady-The song was "When I get you Alone" That Robin Thicke Came out with.
I will definitely be getting that Robin Thicke and Monica today...still deciding on Sleepy Brown
I gotta wait a little longer before i decide if I'm feeling Ciara..
Marcus: Don't do it...lol
I love JT and for real there is no one out there that does not remind me of somebody. We all should know this by now. I think JT is more pop and Robin is more soul. Either you like them or you don't. I happen to like both. I will take Robin easy like Sunday morning and I will take JT poppin my collar Friday night style.
JT/Usher/Omarion/Chris Brown/NeYo- They all got that Prince/Mike vibe so
I digress...
Beyonce ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
so does Robin Thicke!
No comment on Monica and Jackson#10
I wasn't comparing them musically. I was comparing them vocally. And okay. So JT sounds like Robin. Nobody was saying anything was wrong with it. It was just my "first listen" observation.
.
Hey all. What's up?
That "RAW" has been on repeat since yesterday. It has more fire than this curry chickn I'm eating. And you know pepper burns twice. Should she release it...
a little off topic but deservesitsown post...
Just as I predicted..when Whitney stopped the check...Bobby Brown goes back to court...
ever since whitney stopped the check...his 15,000 allowance and 11,000 per month child support...a jusge has ordered a warrant for the arrest of Bobby....for?...Non Payment
Yo Bobby...ask Karrine...dumb ass!
Guiness, sorry bout the typo.
4REAL, she is not the most searched person on the net. I think it was most serached news story.
*searched
*Wiping ofF sweat from doing the "Runing Man" AND The "Kid and Play Kick Step"*
How 'bout dem Eagles!!!
Wassup, Soulstarrs, Sohhoul Man and New Skool (1st of 20, damn, I'm late,LOL)
I was feelin' R. Thicke on that Weezy jawn and folks is tellin' me he next....
OK, so I was a little worried when I heard Monica's first single "Everytime the beat drop.†Although I could listen to it, I didn’t think the song suited her, especially vocally. After listening to the entire album my worries were put at ease. The standouts of the album include:
Dozen Roses
Why Her?
Hell No (Leave Home)
Raw
My Everything
Getaway
Thanks for the Misery (Bonus Track)
Although I still believe, despite everyone objections that, “After the storm†was Mo’s best album. “The Makings of Me†is a solid effort which showcases Monica’s maturity into woman hood, with songs that tell stories of her heartache and that anybody that has ever been in love, hurt from love, or currently in love could relate to. Out of five stars I’ll give it 3.5. I would have given it 4 if she didn’t have Missy all over the production, but besides that it’s a solid effort from and R&B VOCALIST, that can actually sing.
:SCORP
That's why I didn't jump on the bandwagon when people were downing her for releasing "Everytime." The other songs that I had up to that point were proof enough for me that her album is going to be good. I haven't copped yet. Will after work though. I love MONICA's spirit.
I never really listen to the music posted on the page because I am front and center in the Human Resources department, but thanks for giving me an idea. I guess I gotta give this Thicke kid a listen if yall are conparing him to Jon B. That's pretty damn big. I have always said, I love me some JT, but when it comes to some white folks singing some R&B from the heart no one comes close to Jon B. and Teena Marie. They honorary black folks. You mean to tell me this Thicke dude is doing it like that?
Also let all say a little prayer that Janets sales will increase drastically by the end of the day. The current number sounds like a career ender to me.
Scorpiyo: Im sayin, aint there only like 10 tracks on Monica's CD? How you gonna list 7 of em as "standouts" LOL.
I dont know, I love Monica normally and I just wasnt impressed. Its not the worst shit I have ever heard BY FAR but its probably the worst of her that Ive heard - at least in comparison.
Whats up folks...
The Robin Thicke CD will get picked up today...Nuff Said
Monica...I like her but I dont like her that much to buy her album... Just something about her that just dont agree with me.
I listened to the Robin Thick and I guess this song is not a good example. He actually sounds more like JT on this one than Jon B., but I get where yall are coming from. I have to listen to more of his stuff when I get home.
ANyone going to buy that Sleepy Brown?
Scorpiyo: Im sayin, aint there only like 10 tracks on Monica's CD? How you gonna list 7 of em as "standouts" LOL.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because they are the songs I (personally) can have to repeat so they stand out to me.
I listened to the entire album on AOL twice and I still didn't like it and I'm a HUGE Monica fan.
