SOHH It seems our girl Kelly Rowland is officially back in the studio working on her recently shelved project My Story. You'll recall back in April I was invited to a special listening session at Columbia for Ms. Rowland's new CD and thought her shit stank. Our review got syndicated all over the place and the next thing you know she put the CD on hold due to "marketing synergies" according to Music World president, Matthew Knowles.
Actually what he said was...
"We want to make sure our marketing strategy is a multi-tiered approach that capitalizes on the synergies afforded by her other projects."
According to MTV News, here is what Kelly herself had to say,
It was basically a list of songs that I put together about the past three years of my life, with love and relationships," Rowland said of the album. "And I remember listening to the record, and I was just like, 'I don't want this to be too deep to where, you know, [I] lose people. I still wanna have my party records, and I still wanna make people get up and bob their heads and vibe a little bit. And the record was too full of midtempos and ballads, so I wanted to bring it up a little bit. I mean, I'm 25. I'm young!
Wait, wait, wait... where is the part where everyone thought her songs were lukewarm? Where is that part where I get blacklisted from SONY/Columbia events for starting an online frenzy of hate on her mediocre set? What the fuck ever.
Of the songs that have leaked, SOHH Soulful's favorite is, "Every Thought Is U"
Since everyone thought her shit was boring, Kells has decided to get back to her banging beat Destiny's Child roots. I already see the backlash of people comparing her to Beyonce whom the world already attributes the Destiny's Child sound to.
In general, I'm going in the urban, more R&B route," Rowland said during a break from the Garrett sessions. "Of course, that's what I started with with Destiny's Child, [but on] my first solo album I did more of a pop-sounding record. So I wanted to go back to my roots and dibble and dabble with some beats.
All this spin is making me dizzy. Someone please stop the madness and let me off. Ugh!
While we wait for Kelly to get her shit together. Check out these new joints by Diddy and Gwen Stefani... marketing synergies my ass. Muthafuckas need to cut me a check for saving them a few million seeing as everything I chastized her about they went back and corrected.
