Late last week, Janet Jackson placed a count down clock on her website JanetJackson.com. The countdown expired yesterday at 12 noon when fans were treated to a new song by Janet titled "Weekend".
The new track, which has yet to be confirmed as the lead single for her upcoming cd tentatively titled 20 Years Old, is a throwback to early 80's dance music. Sampling herself and a host of other dance notables of the 80's Janet also throws in a healthy dose of that sugary sweet pop she became famous for. The track itself is bananas. Overall it is reminiscent of 80's dance queen Shannon. Remember that song "Let the Music Play"? Anyways.... if Jermaine Dupri produced "Weekend" then he is right on point in terms of ushering Janet back into the heavy dance era as intended.
The only downside to the song is the over simplified lyrics and vocal arrangements. In usual form Janet isn't always easy to understand at first listen, however the rhythm in which she sings is very sing songy almost like a nursery rhyme. Never the less, Janet is coming for the job which is odd because she was the one who created the position in the first place. Enjoy "Weekend" here.

The other big surprise is-- after careful consideration Kelly Rowland has decided to push her album, My Story... Kelly Rowland, back until February 2007. The funny thing is, when we previewed Kelly's album for us a few weeks ago, we were reprimanded for being so brutally honest about our dislike for what she had to offer. Apparently we weren't the only one and the powers that be have saved themselves a lot of money and a lot of shame by sending baby girl back into the lab.
SOHH Soulful wanted to do it's part in supporting good R&B by offering Kelly Rowland a few tips. The first of which is: GO TO THE CLUB! Get a feeling for what the street is seeking. Smell the new trends, invent your own... but get in the clubs boo. Until Kelly returns, there is always Letoya Luckett.

Ok, Janet is my girl, and I'm really hoping she can come out this time and do the damn thing. However, that "Weekend" ish is not gonna to do it. I hate to say it, but it's garbage. I hope this is just promo and not her first single. She is capable of so much better.
On to Kelly...I was ready for her CD in July, but I can understand why they are sending her back to the lab. The stuff I have heard already is ok, but that's it, just ok. There is nothing there that will just make you go out and buy the CD. I could see a lot of people just downloading the 2 or 3 songs they like, and just going with that. She said she wants to work with relatively unknown producers and that is cool, but she needs to establish herself as a solo artist first. She needs to get the Neptunes in there, because their stuff is HOT. Call Scott Storch, Timbaland, and even Kanye's big headed ass if you need to. Some Dr. Dre tracks would be hot too. She should also do some hot collabos. She should work with Nelly again, they have great chemistry, and I'm sure they can create another hit. Regardless, she better step it up. I really wish her the best.

I think that Janet's song weekend isnt as glorious as they said it was going to be. It is so techno. It sounds like a track on her album, but not one that she should release. But I am glad that Janet is back. Hopefully she has a kick ass music video to help push the song to a number 1 spot.

Janet Jackson is old as hell and looks it. Her nose looks just like her brother's and she looks like an extra from the movie "Planet of the Apes." She is a washed up artist and won't be able to come back strong. She tried that strip her last 2 albums and failed. I'm not feeling her anymore, her dance moves are repeated and her sex appeal won't keep her alive because that's all she is.
Kelly Rowland, I'm disappointed in her. A lot of the songs I've heard on this album suck! She is kinda boring, but the songs are just so corny, it's crazy! Hello everyone! I have taken the time out of my busy schedule to review your comments to see what you guys think about my work. I would like to thank everyone for your undying support. My new single will be hitting the radio in mid-May, and I'm sure that you will all enjoy it. On this cd, I have decided to go back to my roots. Jimmy, Terry, Jermaine, and myself have all spent hours and hours in the studio trying to create "20 years old". I'm sure that you won't be disappointed. I have a special guest on my cd, who has been a friend of mine for such a long time and I am honored to have had the privilege to work with h.. Oh, yes before I go. I would like to address the people who commented about my being washed up. I may be getting older, but I have become wiser as well. Update..I have heard a few songs from Letoya's CD on the internet...not downloaded...streamed from Power 99 in Philly...Then I heard her doing promo in the regular radio here in St. Louis...If her album is wack...it doesn't matter...The songs I heard her promoting are so HOTT..she has a song called "She Dont" that most definitely should be her next single...as for "Torn" that cut is outta here...early on..The video has debuted at no. 9 on Yahoo and she is doing loads of promotion..so the girl is way ahead of Kelly already...and people lover her story..And yeah..she is beautiful..Beyonce still has to stay on top...she is not invincible..she has came wack a few times (The entire Survivor CD, "Work It Out" and all her movies..lol) So yall can get off her nuts sometime.
