NeYo, one of our new favorite R&B singers drops his debut cd today titled In My Own Words. I got respect for NeYo. Here is someone who didn't want to release that first single "Stay", who disagreed with Jay-Z about having an overly hip hop image and he still makes a big impact on the music game. Congrats to NeYo!

We all love Mary J. Blige's album, The Breakthrough, especially the single "Be Without You". It's solid position on the charts proves that. But we're pushing up on the month of March and where is the new single/video? Mary, stop draggin' ass and release a new video!

"Ooh boy you lookin' like you like what you see...." ~ Beyonce, "Check On It"

Have you seen the new issue of Smooth magazine featuring Tamala Jones? The actress tells Jawn Murray in the cover story that Bobby Brown publicly declared, "Don't you know I always wanted to f- you?"

Way back when, I heard that Kelly Rowland and Duane Martin were making a flick titled The Seatfiller. Seatfillers are all those people you see in the front row at MTV performances or any televised Jamie Foxx show. You can register here. But anyways....

Thanks to some glitch in the matrix, our interview with Jaheim never hit the internet. But don't fret my pets, we'll get it up one day this week. In the meantime we can revel in Jaheim claiming the #1 spot on Billboard with his third cd Ghetto Classics.

I don't care what anyone says, it still feels like Monday. If you were at or glued to the All-Star Game then here is what supposedly has been poppin' in R&B since payday.

Prince versus Michael Jackson

For all you cynics this isn’t a competition about who is better or whom you prefer but rather an observation on how it all came to be. 1984/1985 were huge years in music. Michael Jackson released Thriller, Prince released Purple Rain and Bruce Springsteen released, The Boss. For many it was during that year that people decided to be a fan of one or the other… sometimes of both.

With this week being dedicated to the Fellas of R&B, we couldn't go on without mentioning R. Kelly. We all know the R-ruh is a talented brother. However he's never been known for his smarts. I mean, rumor has it that he and Fantasia learned to read at the very same school. You feel me?

Anyways, the other day I was thinking, "When is homeboy going to trial?" And after yesterday's scoop courtesy of Ananda Lewis, I am saying, NOT SOON ENOUGH!

Happy Valentine's Day from all of us here at SOHH Soulful.

Anthony Hamilton has arguably one of the most distinctive voices in R&B today. His latest cd "Ain't Nobody Worryin'" is silently holding it's own on the R&B charts. He's been on the scene since 2003 thanks to Jermaine Dupri. Thus far, the work has been consistent, so why has he not been on most people's radar? Is it because of his dirty back pack style?

In the spirit of Valentine's Day the intern's here have put away the pepper spray and declared this a hate free week on SOHH Soulful. So to occupy our venomous time we're gonna show some love to the Fellas of R&B all week. Avant is first up to bat.

If Steve Martin and Kevin Kline can help ticket sales soar at the box office then Beyonce might have taken page of Jennifer Lopez's blueprint.... having the #1single ("Check On It" f/ Slim Thug) and the #1 movie ( The Pink Panther) in the country.

Mariah Carey.jpg

Last night's Grammy ceremony was the first that I have watched completely in such a long time. The talent level was pretty high. I could have done without Madonna. I mean, she is an icon but once I heard they chose her over Mariah Carey to open the show, I suspected trouble was looming.

Now I want to know, how is it that you have one of the most successful albums of the year. You get nominated for eight Grammys, you perform two of the most difficult songs in your catalog live and you win three awards, but they don't even bother to give you any of your awards on air?

Last night, Clive Davis held his now infamous pre-Grammy party. Apparently your favorite male R&B singer showed out in usual form!

It's a shame when you're not dead yet and people are already plotting your life story! Just the other day the interns and I were saying how we would 'kill' to own the film rights to Whitney Houston's life. Well it turns out that we aren't the only on that bandwagon. Vivica A. Fox tells Black Voice's Jawn Murray that...

Christina Milian.jpg

Some people thinks that it takes money to make money. Christina Milian is taking it one step further in hopes that heat will bring heat. However is her new Nick Cannon diss record the kind of heat that will light a fire under her career. Although this was done to create a little buzz for Christina, it seems squeaky clean Nick Cannon aka the young Will Smith in the making, is getting all the attention. Nick's response to it all:

Don't Front on John Legend

With all the hoopla around Mariah Carey and her eight Grammy nominations, I almost forgot that John Legend has just as many nominations. It's been a minute since we've talk about John on SOHH Soulful. What has he been up to?

Besides dodging rumors that he's got an inner Beyonce, John has been legitmately working. John is one of those artist that I love in the sense that he works hard. He tours domestically and internationally almost non stop. And all while dipping into studios to work on his highly anticipated sophomore album. His concert dvd really impressed me. I'd seen John and Keyshia Cole perform live here in New York before all the sucess and he was good then, but the dvd shows he's gotten significantly better.

Many people are hoping that Whitney Houston can stop "partying" long enough to take note of Mariah's hard work and Janet's comeback efforts and will "go into the studio to show who the voice really is" according to one fansite.

Gwen Stefani has a special on MTV where they trace her road to the Grammys. As we all know her album Love, Angel, Music, Baby with the single for "Holla Back Girl" is nominated. Previously, we discussed Gwen's new millennial black face when she is performing for an urban crowd. Well since her rock counterparts might be in the room, as well as her husband and baby daddy, will Gwen show up as the white Gwen or the black Gwen?
