Jamie Foxx sure can sing...

But his music special that aired last night on NBC featuring Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, The Game, Snoop and ridiculous excerpts from a Tyler Perry play wasn't worth the two dollars put into producing it. However Jamie Foxx can sing.
On the outset, it felt really good to see Jamie get a chance live out his childhood dreams of having the #1 album in the country again this week. Last night on stage he looked completely satisfied as the audience of seatfillers looked on lovingly.
It's just too bad that it became evident why NBC didn't advertise that stupid ass show three minutes into its duration. The production made this star studded event look like just another episode of Showtime at the Apollo or something BET produced back in the 1980s. Although we admit Jamie can sing and is a very smart man, there were many moments when we were down right bored. Especially with those numerous costume changes that revealed his inner Beyonce.
Lastly, and this is straight from the SoulMan to Jamie....every young black man has had a black grandmother. The story of how she loved you and tried to guide you in the right direction in the face of growing pains and social adversity sounds like the lives of every young boy who knew his grandmother.
SOHH, stop milking it already. You ain't special and the only thing special about your show was Mary J looking "So Lady". But, he can sing....

Honestly, the production was horrendous. I mean, it was absolutely ridiculous. The performance didn't keep me from switching the channel either. Game verse came in off beat, while snoop was in the back grinding on girls instead of working the crowd.
You can tell NBC didnt give a fuck about the event. Commercials bullied their way in every 2 minutes, like BET does, and would cut a piece of the song off prematurely.
The best part was the dancer in the green dancing to Unpredictable at the beginning. She can get a couple shots of DNA, any day.
The hate is amazing. Obviously you've never seen OR been to an old school R&B concert from a legend like Pattie LaBelle, otherwise you would have appreciated the show for what it was. Of course the gratuitous booty dancers aren't what i'm refering to, but I suppose more of them, some explosions and an Usher-esque dance routine would have made it a GREAT production in your opinion.
You cats on SOHH don't have a clue.
And the fact that you go out of your way to say the man "ain't special" just seems like pure jealousy. I'd swear he was boning ya mom, on your bed in the basement with all the emotions you going through online. What got you so mad?
It will repeat friday for those who missed it.
Stop hating motherfuckah
thank you skdamc... now i know what not to watch on friday
good looking out
Soulman I got a question for you... Do you think Jamie can sing?
Jamie can sing his ass off, the production was horrible, but thats how NBC set that up for him to fail. It could have been much better, but NBC , ABC, FOX, BET, it would have been the same, unless you put your own money into it to make it better, these white folks could care less about a black man with talent, unless white folks are involved.
I love, love, love Jamie. But some of the parts in the show were weird (like him singing to a doll) He performed good, though.
Does anyone know how many people watched Jamie's show last night? Did it do good?
That review sure did sound hateful. Were you looking for the Jessica Simpson/ Nick Lagay Variety Hour? For 1 hour of television, you seemed to take it pretty personal. True, there was no need for the audience to cry for his grandmother, just cherish or pay respects to ours. And personally, my hate-free opinion of Jaime's singing is that it's pretty mediocre. It's how I feel about all IMPRESSIONISTS that pick up a mic (i.e. Eddie Murphy). But I listen to his album, and am entertained by it. I'm not looking for his music, tv show, or him personally to stir my soul. The show was NOTHING but a showcase for his album. I applaud him for brokering the opportunity for himself, on NBC at that (Jay-Z pulled that off on HBO for the pre-Tyson fight, remember?). He coulda sat down w/ Tigger & sang to a small crowd. He coulda done 1 song at every music award show for publicity. No, he used some Oscar clout & told NBC his mind was on music, open the door for 1 hour (and no thanks on the Michael McDonald/ Kenny G/ Celine Dion offers- al black artists tonight). Were they gonna go all out with the production? No. Were they gonna try to market it repeatedly to their white audience? No. They wouldn't want them to believe this is what NBC has truly become. Will he get another show like that on a major network? No. Did he sell some records last night? YES!
BTW, if you get Stevie Wonder to sing at halftime of a Ping Pong Tournament, I'll be tuning in.
I can too sing.
SoulMan...Baby not the usual... girl u actin disrespectable...
I liked the show. The song he was singing to the doll was the song he wrote for his daughter..Which was beautiful...Also that song about his grandmother was beautiful also. Shit I hadn't bought the album yet, but I will now. I don't see where it's wrong for him to keep showing appreciation to his Grandmother for keeping him on the straight and narrow. Shit, you don't get much of a chance to do much living in a country ass town like Terrell, TX...I bet he's gained some more record sales because of this show. GO JAMIE
Jamie Foxx is not the only black person that won an oscar..but he is the only black mutha that used his oscar clout to put his foot down for NBC. of course we are embarrassed as black people for him cause not only did he try and ex out the people that got him where he at now (white people) but he used black folks to sale more records for him. I wish we as people can get over this white man black man thing..we are all human beings looking for a little entertainment and if that come an all costs then so be it.. Im not hating on the brotha but sometimes there is a point in your life where you want to say "you are a grown ass man dog"..grow up all of you and get a life..its 2006 already!!
The show was hot! Stevie Wonder, Mary J, Snoop and Game! A legendary show to say the least. The best show on during the allotted timeslot.
One
Well, my bullshit ass girlfriend made me miss all but the first three minutes.
(naggin ass BITCH).
Anywayz,
Jamie has played his 'I love my nana' bit to death for real.
But...........
his CD is FIRE.
"You cats on SOHH don't have a clue".
WORD!!!
I agree with WOOCHILD!
No one is gonna do the same ol' routine when it comes to a show.
I think it was a BEAUTIFUL thing for him to pub his album and talent for which he was considered second rate.
Soulman is evidently one who does not like to see different ideas displayed.
as the young people say..."STOP HATIN"!!!
i forgot to say one thing..the show was a bust in my book..not because NBC made it look bad but because Jamie Foxx will forever in my ears sound like Raye Charles because that's what he do best..immitate and memic other peoples voices..hopefully he can find his own voice one day and live up to the hype of his new CD..im already forgetting unforgettable and i predicted the unpredictable would happen..
And as far as you "SOULMAN" talking down on him for giving his grandma "up's" is totally disrespectful!!!
What kind of person hates on one for giving it up to the one who inspired him to become the success that he is???
SOULMAN seems to be one of those Martin Bashir types. One who likes drama and alters the truth!
fareally doe what is all da haytin for? cant we be proud anutha black man is doin his dam thang ratha den haytin da fact that it aint us on nbc grindin on females? shyt deez sohh niggas be talkin as if they can do it betta or some shyt..yet..they get paid to make hype on there blogs and thats just what they doin. i thank the show was hot in my opinion.
I thought the show was great last night...it was sexy for the ladies..and gents(the dancers..beautiful!)..it was upbeat with songs u could move too....and it was sweet and heartwarming..teetering on the edge of corny with the plays.
the Guest stars really did there thing..o..and another thing "Soulman" got wrong..always saying Jamie sounds like he's always "featuring" on a track. I think Jamie held his own very well with the vets up there. Mary and Stevie were the best guest performers....nice show, real nice
o and "Soulman"...you know what ya'll i think this dude just keeps harping on Jamie for the attention..he cant be THAT ignorant.can he?
Mannn......
This is SongStressKS, and I think that Jamies show could have been better. But in all, I actually enjoyed it. I think the Man is Remarkably talented and is a true Entertainer. But now, singing to the fake baby was funny, I mean the man is also a comedian Duh.....But as far as the white and black thing is concerned..I think that it was messed up on NBC's part to put it on at the same time as American Idol. But now it's over and done with, and frankly I don't give a damn. Last nights show is not gonna break Jamie.....
Peace I'm out......

Jamie Fox is indeed beggining a trend (along with Kanye) that would symbolize the uprising of Hip Hop and our creative culture.
Keep working the MAN Jamie and Kanye... here is one NAGGA! that has your back.
Game, Game, Game.... All I have to say about "The GAYMAN's" performance is that >>> pay attention
HE HUGED SNOOP A LITTLE TOO HARD AFTER HE PERFORMED.... YOU CAN TELL BY SNOOP'S REACTION!!! SNOOPED BACKUPED AND STARED FOR AWHILE...
We know Snoop... he is a GAY.
Much love.
You cats talkin' bout Jamie is runnin' his grandma's passing in the ground if that's the case then what about P Diddy and The Notorious B.I.G.?
Chris Wallace should be at the center of the earth then.
Don't have nothin to say huh???
Damn, there are plenty of black men out there doing their thing. Stop bringing up the fact "Can't we be proud of a black man for his success" It's not even about that when we are judging him. If people want to say that they didn't like his how, album, or thinks he's dumb, so be it. We don't have to congratulate everything he does just because he's one of us! It's great that he's black and got an Oscar but that's no reason to think that everyone should kiss his ass. Jamie isn't the same to me. He gets one Oscar and thinks he's the shit. I liked it better when he had The Jamie Foxx Show.
That was my shit. I agree with the person who says that he didn't give props to the white people he worked with, he just gave it to the black people. That's fucked up. Jamie Foxx is a person who works well with everyone white or black...he even befriended Tom Cruise and his wife, for a minute. But then he turns around, has an album, and is all black but with movies, is a kiss up to the white people. My point is, he shouldn't be ashamed to give white people props in front of a black audience when he has an album, but is quick to say he's worked with Tom Cruise in a movie...just because he wants to show that even though he's black he can still co-star in a movie with white people. No, I'm not hatin...I'm just speaking my mind.
Everybody needs to stop with this bullshit hatin' for real. think about it... not only is the brother extremely talented, but he's done something that has never been done: got a BLACK presentation aired on one of Americas most famous television networks, 'NoBody's Colored'. commonly know as NBC. the purpose of the special was to push his album and mainly to get the word out. i'm tired of hearing you crab niggaz tryin to bring our folks down. don't be mad that he's gettin his money and you not! i got Jamie's album, and for anyone else who's bought a copy can see why it's #1 in the country and going for double platinum. it's not selling because he won some damned oscar, the brother can really sing!! i'll admit, the little intermediate 'skits' they did portraying him as a kid with his grandmother were kinda corny, but in all respects, he's giving recognition to his grandma for his acclaimed success. tell me what's wrong with that. and even with all the clout he does have, especially in hollywood, his show wasn't over the top. he even gave stevie wonder a solo spot to spit out a classic. i congradulate Jamie Foxx on his continuing success, and hope that someday we as black people will learn to start lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down when our brother accomplishes what we don't.
The problem here is the same ol stuff when it come to "us". We don't support "us" enough to make a real dent in our social short coming's. Some people see this as a fact of life and others don't have a clue. A perfect solution would be rather you agree it was a good show or not, show your respect and support for one of "us" for once and keep the negativity away. You might find that notion very contagious.
it was the best variety show i've ever seen. i appreciate that he was performing for us ladies. he definitely raised the bar and i hope to see more of that kind of entertainment on tv. i'm sure he's receiving loads of fan mail today. couldn't believe all of the negative feedback from some of the other viewers. people, stop the hatin' and crabbin'! evidently some folks just don't recognize and appreciate quality entertainment when they see it. jamie, keep up the good work. i'll be ck'g you out again this friday!
hmm..interesting..just checked the ratings and the show was behind..American Idol( we all saw that coming...even though its like people...how many times do u need to see people bomb on tv)...CBS, and ABC.
kind of a disappointment, but everyone got the word out as much as we could (no thanks to NBC!!! ), and Friday's encore and word of mouth about it should help.
Can Tom Cruise sing? Just wondering. He's supposed to give credit to who got him there? He mentioned one of his singing mentors in one of his "corny" skits (apparently some of you have never been to a play- that's what it looks like when you put it on tv). He said he learned from singing gospel... oh, and he can't bring Ray Charles back to appear on his show. He doesn't owe his movie directors or any past castmembers (including Keenan, Damon, Jim Carrey, etc.) an appearance on his MUSIC show. BUT, if you're tellin me that Jaime grew up idolizing Aerosmith, then DAMMIT JAIME, you shoulda had Liv's grandfather on ya show!
okay...the singing to the baby doll was kinda weird. i love you jamie but don't do it again.
I have to admit I didn't watch the Jamie Foxx special b/c I was too busy laughing @ American Idol. But this was to critical. I mean i thought the reason for the email going around was to make blk ppl watch it not complain about the poor production. I mean he did something that we don't see on a major network and thats have a all blk cast. Fawk the production go Jamie. and mayne I was trying to get a glipse of it between commercials but those fawkers r so smart they synchronized the commercials on Fox and NBC.
The show was a great success. Anybody else that sells otherwise is a hate-in-ya-blood shythead. Simple as that, Good show Jamie, fuck American Idol!
The show was decent and I've always been a fan of Jamie Foxx even though I don't always like the stuff he puts out but I support the brother for taking a stand for "us". For all of y'all who like to think that we shouldn't be concerned with skin color are right but delusional. Every other race, religion, or cultural group (i.e Gays and Lesbians) will protect any and everything that they feel is important. I feel it was very important to showcase a man of his many talents and a album of that quality on a network that routinely ignores "our" wants and needs from a media outlet. The same network that Bill Cosby built shot a sitcom pilot a few years back about slavery! Like that shit funny! Black people, if it ain't painfully obvious already, if we don't take stands for "us," nobody would even care if we continue to exist. Don't believe me, ask somebody from the 9th ward N.O.
If someone post something that SOHH doesn't agree with, they erase ya shit huh?
They let caff and this dude from England talk all that gay shit though.

L-M-F-A-O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAHHHHHHHHHH!
WAHHHHHHHHHH!
I complain cause I'm a nigga that need 2 be erased...
WAHHHHHHHHHH!
LOL.
The show was pretty bad. Maybe that's harsh. It started out pretty good, except for the weird "stage play" intro, (the little boy can play is ass off tho! I wanted to hear more of him).
I enjoyed Stevie, but he just sang Jamie off the stage. Why would you set yourself up like that? Mary was cool, but the rest was a C- and just plain odd sometimes. Wasn't Foxx on Tv back in day? He should've known better, told some jokes or some shit.
Why doesn't he perform Extravaganza? That's the hottest track on the album. If he would've done that with Kanye it would've bumped the overall show up to at least been a C+ (79%). Maybe Kanye passed...
I had to tivo that cause I was at some white chicks house and she wanted to watch Idol.
The show was nice, just enough for a free ass concert. And a brotha looked damn good! And that is part of the problem, cause the only people I hear complaining is niggers (white and black)! All yawl, keep talking about him not giving his props to the white folks. Right now, all we know is that it was a rumor. And if he didn't so damn what! You can have white co-workers, friends, relatives etc. That don't mean you have to take them muthafuckers everywhere you go, cause I damn sure don't! Fuck em! Every time I turn around they got they white asses in the middle of something. As a black woman I get sick and fuckin tired of turning on my tv and see my beautiful black men laid up with some white woman like black women don't exist! Unless there is some trashes ass video that is 1 bitch short. I thank Jamie if he did do it, cause yawl niggers don't know how to do shit but kiss them folks asses, cause you damn sure ain't kisses no black womans! And while yawl niggers got your back turned to your own women, them honkey's a grabbing us with both hands! Remember yawl ain't got no damn money, so pay attention to us, fuck Jamie, the tv and the man! While you ass on the damn computer go take care of your damn wife and kids, make sure she don't need nothing. Be UNPREDICTABLE!
In 1956, Cole was given his own television show on NBC-TV. Despite good ratings, the program failed to find a sponsor and left the air after a year. Cole's being African American was seen as the primary cause for the lack of advertising interest. Sponsoring a program that drew a large, if by no means exclusively, black audience was seen as a waste of money by advertisers.
A lot of you are taking this too far! Stop always putting down the white race or any other race for that matter just to make us look better. We got our own channel BET, own award shows, Lady of Soul, Vibe Awards, Soul Train Awards, Bet Awards NAACP Awards, we already made a name for ourselves. For some of you females to be putting down these white chicks or any other chicks is so immature and so stupid. Don't think you're better than someone just because of your race. How dumb is that? That goes for any whites, latinas, or any other girls. You all look like dumb NIGGERS. No, not niggas, NIGGERS! I'm tired of our people using that damn word, nigga. It's no different from what the white people called our ancestors back in the day! You all just sound so uneducated; trying to sound like you know what you're taking about. Bitches if you're going to support the black race and show that we have talent and intelligence too, don't be using nigga/nigger...which means ignorant good for nothing dumbasses! You all are some stupid muthfuckers who have nothing better else to do but try to bring other people down when this is a damn website. Do you really think someone's going to get offended. For the girl who said that we're on the computer and should be taking care of kids and shit...you dumbass, you must was on the computer to write that dumbass comment! Everyone has free time.
I've been a Jamie Foxx fan for a minute now and I'm happy for the guys recent accomplishments. With that being said, the show was subpar.
The guests besides Stevie Wonder were a waste of time. Production wasn't too great either.
By the way, how is this Jamie Foxx special that important? Nat King Cole had his own variety show on NBC in 1956. Think about that, a black man with his own variety show 2 years after Brown v. The Board of Education, a case about segragation in public school. Now that's an accomplishment.
Jamie is still one of my favorite entertainers regardless. I just hope he stops acting in crappy movies like Jarhead and Stealth.
If it ain't Flavor of Love, why watch it ???
People, this dude is from a small town in Texas and was on NBC doing his own speacial the way he wanted to do it. It really doesn't matter what anybody thinks he WON. And young wipper snappers, don't fall for what SOHH is trying to do. Remember they are apart of the media, so they will try to start stuff to get people to comment.
White people act like they not racist.
They don't want us to be successfull.
That's the bottom line.
Essex : True, dat!
Jimmy G--I liked Jarhead!! It was a great movie! Jamie was wonderful in it.
Ok, so I was flipping through "Idol" and this show and I thought it was just OK. Jamie is what the record industry refers to as a "studio singer". His album may sound great (haven't heard it, don't own it, and don't want it), but he is terrible live. I think the concept of the show was creative, but it was lacking, ummm, how should I put this...Energy. I felt like it was an hour long promotion of the album and not focusing Jamie as a well-rounded entertainer.
His HBO special was much better than this. Granted he has the #1 album in the country, but what does that mean, really??? So did Britney Spears and the Pussycat Dolls, so I don't think Billboard sales is an indication of actual vocal ability and talent...
Jamie can blow...show was great...what's wrong with him showing that his grandmother guiding him during his youth? That's awesome that mad kids can relate to him...I really sick of the petty ass jealous comments of writers on this site...real talk
When the jitney arrived, Mr. Henry opened the front passenger door, pointed a gun at the minister and demanded money, Lt. Kraus said.
"We're not clear exactly what happened at that point," he said. "I believe there was some resistance."
Investigators believe Mr. Henry fired a single shot.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Mr. Mitete was found slumped over the steering wheel of his Chevrolet Cavalier. He became the 61st homicide of the year in Pittsburgh -- a victim described by police as truly innocent.
F*CK DaReal lil' vato AND HIS GAY AZZ CITY OF DICKS
DaReal lil' vato IS A WHITEBOY THAT MAKES LOVE TO WOMEN ON THE INTERNET THROUGH PICTURES.(HE BEATS HIS MANS TOO MUCH) U SICK F*CK
I just don't understand why he got his on 1 hour special when he just came out.He only has one song out and that's all you are going on. I have not heard anybody say good reviews about the album. Anybody can sing one song but don't we have to hear the whole album before he can get credit. who care that he is a oscar winner doesn't mean he can sing. that's just me.
ALLS I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT MY MAN JAMIE FOXX CAN SING HIS BUTT OFF AND ACT OUT OF THIS WORLD. HIS PERFORMANCE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND HE DID AND OUTSTANDING JOB, SO ALL YALL REALLY NEDD TO QUIT HATTIN AND BURNIN ON MAH MAN LIKE THAT ON SUM REAL STUFF. HE HAS BEEN THROUGH ALOT WITH HIS MOM NOT BEIN IN HIS LIFE AND THE FACT THAT HIS GRANDMA TOOK CARE OF HIM ALL HIS LIFE AND SHE DIED. THAT IS A REAL DIRESPECT TO DOWN HIM AT A TYME LIKE THIS, SO GOD IS GONNA GIVE HIM HIS, AND FOR ALL YALL HATERS, KEEP ON PUSHIN
J-Foxx can sing to me anytime...as long as it ain't on a wack-ass NBC special!
