I've been wondering why Soul Train is one the most revered entertainment benchmarks, not only in black culture but in music in general, yet its most recent programming has made BET look a lot more attractive. I mean, now that Bob Johnson is otherwise occupied, BET is blossoming with shows like BEEFS. After the Viacom merger-buyout-takeover-sellingofallblackamerica, BET is shaping up since it's little makeover- just bring back Ananda.
But who's job is it to give Soul Train a makeover?
Think about it. With all that rare, legendary footage, why is there no Soul Train Box Set? Why hasn't someone created a behind the music special on that? Can they at least get a decent website?
SOHH reported late last year that the upcoming Soul Train Christmas Specials, Award Show and Lady of Soul Award show will be broadcast on VH1 properties worldwide. Will Viacom be credited with helping black America feel so ashamed for not preserving one it's famed institutions that someone will step in and if not make it cool again, at least properly restore it's legacy? You can get American Bandstand memorabilia all over the place.
Who's gonna step in? Or has someone already got the ball rolling and me and the interns are just late? Here are our nominations for a few key positions.

I have never been a fan of DJ Clue. But I think he'll be a good host for Soul Train. Hell, anybody's better than Shamar Moore and the new cat they got now.
Do you actually think that BET has gotten better? If you can look at BET now, its obvious that its not but blackxploitation. BET back in the day was real, this bet is what some white executives think you want to see(and are right).

I'm from the south and I'm willing to admit 90% of the rap from down here sucks. It's nothing but beats, and even that is starting to sound the same (Lil' Jon). I don't even listen to the radio anymore. I couldn't tell you the last time I heard a Nas or even a Mobb Deep song on the radio down here. Soul Train is an institution, but for all things the time passes. Soul Train needs to fade out gracefully. It just isn't relavent like it was, BET and MTV provide a 7 day outlet for the music, not just once a week. Even after all these years they still make the artists lip sync. That was always the thing I hated about SOul Train. Then came the fake ass guest/new hosts. Shemar Moore looked uncomfortable as hell. We need to remember the Train for what it was not what it's become.
Substance less programming on BET has a ripple effect. The American market is the biggest in terms of advertising world wide. What is done in the states is mimicked world wide. The fact tha videos with rims and hoes are popular there means they are popular hear in Africa too. Our music channels are flooded with half naked women and sprewells! Step your game up. Give us artistic videos. 99 Problems now thats art!

I am from New York and I have heard radio from its beginning to now. Rap lost its flavor long before the South joined in strong. Its not their fault-its these record executives at the labels and as well as the consumers who buy garbage. Its not about a region. Its about garbage - and I have heard that from all regions at this point. Also, lets be clear..All Southern rappers are not crunk or on some lyrical bullsh%t. This is an insult to Outkast, T.I., Scarface, Slim Calhoun and countless others who bring the real. Let's keep this in perspective and stop insulting out Southern brothas and sistas.

Shemar Moore was frontin with all them girls around him trust me. Dorian is more professional. I love Shemar, even met him, but you can tell when someone is over doing it.
As for Don Cornelius, I am still wondering about the story of him being gay. I remember hearing this alooooong time ago and then when his name if brought up, it comes back. I hope he is, being gay myself. And if he is, it would be nice to be alittle open about it for some other kids to have role models.
