Juice talks to SOHH Left on (candid) camera

Even Juice gets riled up when he reads SOHH where folks and fans and haters try to claim the left coast is over (is it really?). Here, he took a moment to sit down and speak to you all directly about comparisons to his boss, the Game and talkâ€"real talkâ€"about the future of the Wild Wild West (hint: "Arizona is the new movement of this West Coast sh!t"). Some other fun quotables on the videotape, I promise...

Snoop's New Video for "Sensual Seduction": Zexy?

Giselle here. Having some problems with my cmt login info at the moment, so Craig let me borrow his byline. And since this post is about Snoop Dogg's premiering-today-on-MTV-new video for "Sensual Seduction," I thought Craig might appreciate me stating it upfront (no homo). But enough about moi...

Announcing Tupac's Death: T.R.O.Y.

Some folks at MTV uncovered this video recently of Ed Lover announcing Tupac's death at a '96 Nas concert at Nassau Coliseum. It got us moved...and thinking.

Ali Vegas is technically from New Yorkâ€"which will make the littlest cookie cutter of all probably backflip with hate, hate and more hateâ€"but there is a left coast connection to the exclusive we got for you here.

A Very Snoop(y) Thanksgiving

Here's a first look at Snoopy's reality showâ€"we're really not trying to make it Crips week here, this ish just happens. And seeing that this E! commercial in the Thanksgiving spirit, it just seemed right for the week's appetizer...however, we got to thinking, what's the best reality rap show ever?

Ice Cube vs. G-Unit

This isn't any e-beef or even some speculative read between the lines by this blogger, it's just a tete-a-tete of skill against skill. According to NYCE da Future's management, NYCE rapped over the beat for "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It" and then the song's producer, Maestro, sold it over to Ice Cube. No hard feelings by NYCE, it's just business afterall. But you guys can decide for yourselves which MC brings it the hardest.

Behind the scenes: Ice-T still rapping

It hardly gets any more old school than Ice-T. Especially out here on the left. But he's still in the game and despite the horribly unforgivable album art from last year's Gangsta Rap (and the equally bad material on the actual disc), one has to give it up to him for at least trying. He'll be 50 next year, which makes him the Tony Bennet of this sh*t.

Blood, Crip, or Interthug? Probably the latter.

So the site is blue now. Big deal. I'm not disrespecting the tradition of gangs out here, from the D'ego on up, but this is the internet. And this is the blog where we ask, "What exactly do you cookie cutters want?" (And if you can't realize the nature of being called cookie cutters, then maybe I've over-estimated you.)

Before anybody cared about what coast you came from, there was a little group called Public Enemy. This weekend, SOHH Left attended the world premiere of their documentary Public Enemy: Welcome to The Terrordome at the AFI Institute’s annual film fest in Hollywood.

Famous funnyman calls out rap moguls

"...Rap sucks, for the most part. Not all rap, but as an art form it’s just not at its best moment..."

What famous comedian and hip-hop fan is taking a swipe at the state of rap. And is he calling out Jay-Z, Diddy, Kanye and 50? Who else?

A new toast of the Left Coast?

Seattle certainly isn't the city that first comes to mind when someone thinks about this coast's hip-hop, but it's been bubbling a thorough underground scene for years now. Leading that scene is Blue Scholars, who have a new record, available for digital download today. Joe Metro EP, out on Massline/Rawkus, is a politically packed journey with bangin beats as the soundtrack. SOHH Left has an exclusive download, just for you cookie cutters, that doesn't appear on the duo's new EP.

Why can't the Left get it right?

Here comes rap music’s big guns trying to save the collective company’s struggling year-end numbers. 2007 may prove to be one of the busiest and best few months in recent rap memory, but not surprisingly, one region doesn’t have a single release to satisfy thirsty fans. What’s wrong with the West?

Mistah FAB video: Best dance directive yet

fab.png

It's no secret that, of late, dance directives have been more popular than the "Macarena" at white people weddings, but how stale the genre has become is even more apparent. Seriously, how many combinations of the electric slide and the harlem shuffle are even possible? The West Coast has kinda chipped into the craze before (we see you E-40), but Mistah FAB's new video takes it to another level.

Ice Cube going back at Common?

589794371_l.jpg

Once upon a time, Ice Cube was the white establishment's most terrifying detractor. If FOX News existed back when AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted dropped, you better believe SOHH's first lady would've been called up to defend such atrocities. Of course, in today's world, his family-friendly flicks probably make Bill O'Reilly say to himself, "it's amazing how these black people have human emotions." Don't look now though, the ol' Cube is speaking out again and maybe back at his old enemy and Oprah's favorite rapper: Common.
