AP.9 & Husalah: Without My 5

When I came across the recently released AP.9 and Husalah album, Without My 5, the other day at the record store, it was an instant cop. I’m a huge Hus fan, and next to him, AP.9 is definitely the next in line as far as my favorites outta the Mob Figaz lineup (don’t sleep though, Jacka’s a beast as well).

Although Hus is still locked down on a cocaine distro conspiracy charge until 2011, AP.9 was recently released from a stint in prison (although I’m not sure what he was serving time for). Now I know they’re trying to spread out the Hus verses, but there are some of ‘em that I’ve heard on like three different tracks at this point. If you’re super hard-up for some new Hus verses, than this one’s definitely worth picking up; as much as I hate to say it, it’s not really worth picking up for any other reason than that.

I’m not really gonna waste any time on reviewing this album- if you feel like taking the word of someone who’s typically a fan of releases from AP.9 and/or Husalah, then you’ll just have to trust me that it’s not really worth swooping on. There are a few good tracks on here (and by a few, I mean 2 or 3), but all in all, definitely not worth spending 15 bucks on.

If you’re looking for something from Hus, definitely catch up on Dope, Guns and Religion and Huslin’ Since Da 80’’s; both of those albums are dope as f**k, and are legitimate examples of his talent. And if you already have both of those, the Demolition Men mixtape DVD that’s hosted by Hus is worth buying just for his parts in it. Dude is charismatic as hell, and although that’s already made obvious on just about every single track he’s appeared on, the DVD takes it one step further. I’ve shown this DVD to a room full of people who had no idea who Husalah was, and they were instant fans after watching it.

Demolition Men also dropped a mixtape with Hus and The Jacka (although it’s definitely a little more heavy on the Hus tracks) that is a hands-down classic. This joint is probably my favorite Mob Figaz release of all time, partly because of “Zestways”, which is probably the best Husalah track ever recorded in my opinion (there’s also a dope remix of “Zestways” with Andre Nickatina and The Jacka on it, which you can check out here: www.zshare.net/audio/246740668b9057/). If you don’t already have that album, definitely go look for it.

As far as AP.9 albums that I’d recommend over Without My 5, I’m definitely gonna have to go with Kartel Kalifornia with Gonzoe. As far as other albums with AP.9 and Husalah on them, Mob Trial (which also features The Jacka) is definitely a classic in my book.

I’m gone for the weekend, kids. Try to keep cool in this retarded-ass heat, and have a good one.

AND FREE HUS!!!
