In Case You've Been Sleeping...

Since everybody’s still searching for the rapper that’’s gonna put the West Coast back on top, I’m just gonna keep posting dudes that are making power moves out here until you all get it sorted out.

New Will.i.am Video: "I Got It From My Mama"

An image from Will.i.am's audition for Charlie And The Wack Music Factory

Although Will.i.am has made comments about suing anyone who posts footage from their live shows on youtube, apparently he’s all for viral video if it’s being used by his label to promote his unoriginal garbage-ass music off of what is sure to be a thouroughly sh*tty album.

It’s been a long week, and I’m burnt the f*ck out.

Make sure you check in in the upcoming weeks... I wrapped a Techniec interview today (sh*t turned out dope, and dude is definitely a stand-up guy) and we have interviews confirmed with WC and Too Short that’ll be in the coming weeks. And next week, I’m gonna have something crazy for everyone, so stay tuned...

Head To Head: Mack 10 vs. Clyde Carson

street_fighter_blanka.jpg

We're gonna try something new here since we're doing away with the "West Coast Classics" segment. Every now and then I'm gonna put two newish songs up against each other and you guys can let me know who you think is taking the crown.

Afeni vs. Suge, Part 307

afeni.jpg

Man, Suge really won’t ever stop trying to pull shady sh*t, will he?

I got an email yesterday from a publicist about Afeni Shakur taking legal action to block the inclusion of unreleased ‘Pac tracks in Death Row’s liquidation auction. Unless they've been saving the best for last, I say they throw all of the masters into a f*cking bonfire; they've been milking his throwaways for way too long. They're diluting dude's legacy with all this bullsh*t they've been releasing and based on that last album, people don't really care about the unreleased material anymore.

Anyways, the whole story's pretty crazy; read on...

Remembering A West Coast Classic: 2 For 1

alkaholiks.jpg

Since we were talking about Tha Alkaholiks towards the end of last week, I feel like it’s only right that this week’s West Coast Classic is from the “crew wit’ all the brew” themselves...

Catching Up With Techniec...

techniec.jpg

Somebody posted the link to this video yesterday; haven’t heard from Techniec for a while, but he’s sounding dope as f*ck in the booth these days, and I’m definitely looking forward to hearing some more new music from dude whenever he ends up dropping it. Since he’s already bounced around from Snoop’s label to Hoo Bangin’ to BWS (which he ended up breaking ties with as well), I’m not sure who’ll be releasing his music next, but we’ll definitely be keeping an ear out for it.

Whatever Happened To Tha Alkaholiks?

liks.jpg

Ever since Tha Alkaholiks broke up in 2006, I’ve been wondering if they were gonna get back together at some point and try to redeem themselves after Firewater to at least go out on a high note. I’ve also been wondering when we were going to start seeing the solo projects from Tash, J-Ro and E-Swift.

Say It Ain't So, Murs...

Man, it’s looking like I spoke a little too soon on this one...

murs.jpg

A few months back when it was announced that Murs got signed to Warner Bros., I did a blog discussing how I thought this was going to be a really good look for hip hop fans, and a huge step for West Coast hip hop. Murs has proven himself over the span of his impresssive career to be one of the most talented, unique and intelligent dudes in the game, and I figured that his signing was just the next progressive step in his continuing legacy.

Until now.

So the official track listing has been released for Strong Arm Steady’s first LP, Deep Hearted (which drops August 28th), and the s**t definitely looks promising.

Although the group- comprised of Phil Da Agony, Mitchy Slick and Krondon -was originally set to release an album by the title of Arms & Hammers through Open Bar Ent. back when Xzibit was still in the group, they signed to Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith imprint and went on to gather a pretty healthy buzz on their own.

For everyone who hasn’t heard, Crooked I finally released his first single off of his upcoming debut album, B.O.S.S. (Beginning Of Something Serious), “N.W.A. (New West Anthem)”.

crookedi.jpg

Truth be told, I’m not that hyped off the single; the beats alright, but not all that great, and although Crooked didn’t really come half-assed with the lyrics, he didn’t really go at it lyrically like we’ve seen him do in the past. That said, I understand the concept of putting out a single and dropping something that’s easily digestible so that the masses can wrap their minds around it. Those that already know how Crooked gets down are going to keep up with him no matter what, and will be patiently awaiting the album whether they like the single or not. If he reels in some new fans with the single, they’ll find out later what he’s really capable of.

Snoop and Lil' Wayne: Hypocrites For Social Change!

snoop.jpg

So as some of you may have read in the news article that was posted here on SOHH on Monday, Lil’ Wayne and Snoop Dogg are both due to appear on a compilation titled Bangin... The Big Lie: Pain, Pride & Destruction, which is due to be released in September through a subsidiary label of Warner Brothers.

I don’t know about you, but something here doesn’t seem right...

Stupid Ass People

Before I talk about anything else on this SOHH Left Coast, I just want to say that the racist bulls**t that was popping off in the comments section yesterday was one of the most disappointing displays I’ve seen in my life. I have a really hard time believing that adult human beings could really go back and forth like that trying to justify and argue ignorant-ass views, but some of you proved me wrong yesterday. How f**king played out is racism? It seems like tolerance and the appreciation of different cultures would be something that you pick up as a toddler, like, I dunno... tying your own shoes or brushing your teeth every day.

"Lean Like A Cholo": Love It Or Hate It?

down.jpg

A few people have been bugging me to do a blog on “Lean Like A Cholo” by Down aka Kilo for a while now, and now that we’ve given it some time so that everyone has probably had the chance to hear it, I’m interested to hear what you think of it.

If you haven’t had the chance to hear it yet, here it is...

jjfad.jpg

Man, this song seemed so much better when I was 8, but it’s definitely still a classic. As silly a song as this is, I'm pretty sure everyone over the age of 20 can agree on that.

Definitely doesn't seem like the typical group that was signed to Ruthless, right? Go back and check the history, though; Dr. Dre and Yella produced most of the album...

AP.9 & Husalah: Without My 5

withoutmy5.jpg

When I came across the recently released AP.9 and Husalah album, Without My 5, the other day at the record store, it was an instant cop. I’m a huge Hus fan, and next to him, AP.9 is definitely the next in line as far as my favorites outta the Mob Figaz lineup (don’t sleep though, Jacka’s a beast as well).

WC: "This Is Los Angeles"

wc.jpg

As everyone who reads this blog already knows, I try to balance things out in here the best I can when it comes to covering all of the different kinds of hip hop that we have out West. But when it comes to California rap music, the first thing that comes to mind for most people is that ol’ gangsta s**t.

caliagents.jpg

It’s Monday, and as always, we’ll start off the work week (which is hopefully only 4 days long for most of you) by remembering a West Coast classic hip hop joint.

Since we dedicated a couple days last week reviewing Planet Asia’s new album, Jewelry Box Sessions and interviewing the man himsellf, it’s only right to feature a classic joint from P.A.’s collaborative project with San Mateo emcee Rasco. There aren’t a ton of Cali Agents videos out there, but luckily one of the videos out there happens to be one of my favorite cuts from their 2000 album, How The West Was One.
