So out of all the emails I get every day, about 85% of them are bulls**t. Some of ‘em I skim through, some of them I delete right away, some of ‘em I ignore.
But I’m glad I opened this last one from a publicist at Warner Brothers about a newly signed MC from Watts and his new single, “Lift Me up”...
Maybe I’m way behind on my s**t, or maybe I’m just not checking the right places for new stuff, but this is the first I’ve heard about this Jay Rock dude. The voice falls somewhere in between The Game and Shyne, but the flow is all his own- to quote E-40’s description of Jay Rock, “He clean as Clorox with his spitistry.”
I’m gonna try not to get too hyped on this dude just yet because I definitely need to check out some more of his music before jumping to any conclusions and possibly getting let down in the long run, but based on the strength of this joint, he’s showing a lot of promise. Truth be told, I haven’t seen a West Coast artist who holds this much promise based on one single since the first time I heard Bishop Lamont. The beat (which is produceed by 4th Quarter) is bananas, the flow is sick and unique as f**k, and the lyricism is evident from the get-go.
