SOHH LEFT COAST -

Denim, Caltroit and Paid Dues

Overall, there isn’t s**t to write about today, other than two mildly interesting bits of information. Sorry if you’re bored by the lack of exciting news in the world of West Coast hip hop, but um... so am I. That said, here are the aforementioned two bits of info...

Apparently the legendary underground hip hop crew collectively known as Hieroglyphics has decided to launch a denim line called... dun-nuh-nuh-nuh! Hiero Jeans!

I could give you all of the logistics of the jeans and whatnot as presented in the press release, but noboody cares. Jeans is jeans. These ones just have the Hiero “third eye vision” logo on the button and the leather patch. Although there was certainly a time (mid-nineties to early 2000s) when you would see at least 10 to 15 Hiero shirts at just about every hip hop function you went to (at least in Northern Cali), something tells me that this won’t exactly have the same success as Wu-Wear, Rocawear or Sean John. But whatevs; Best of luck to them, and I wish them success.

The Hiero Jeans line will launch in August at the Magic Convention in Las Vegas. The group will also do a couple of shows in the Sin City to celebrate the launch.

Next up, Bishop Lamont and Detroit heavyweight Black Milk will be dropping an album together called Caltroit. Although the album title sucks ass, I got big hopes for this one. I’ve said on here numerous times what I think about Bishop, and Black Milk came with a hell of a sophomore album that had some pretty errily Dilla-esque moments on it. I have no idea when this project will be dropping, but I’ll be waiting on it until then.

In the meantime, the two have dropped the first single, which is the title track off of the album. I’m not providing it here for you, so go hunt for it yourselves.

And now, your City Guide.

The Paid Dues Festival (which the kid Brillyancestar reviewed for everybody a while back) will be heading out on tour starting July 25th. The lineup will be FELT (Murs, Slug and Ant), Living Legends, Sage Francis, Brother Ali, Cage, Mr. Lif, Grouch and Eligh, Hangar 18 and Luckyiam.

Here are the dates:

  • Ain't shit to write about?

How about you review Mistah Fab's album....why are you so late on this. XXL mag reviewed it (xxl rating)...hiphopdx.com reviewed it (4/5 rating)...and a westcoast blog hasn't...

But anyways, any word on what's going on with Sly Boogie???? (or however you spell his name)

  • Curious as to why someone would think these jeans are "cheap" - Ive heard that some of the other styles are retailing for damn near $350. Ive SEEN Del's artwork...I KNOW Tajai's creative thinking...the whole crew is sick with creativity on all levels. Why the hate?! I can pretty much bet that these will NOT be RocaWear jeans, and it just doesnt seem to be their intention. To me, funneling their creative juices into clothing just seems logical and rather exciting. But...for the white t crowd, perhaps this is NOT the time to make your momma proud by takin that shit two sizes down, and wearing some grown folks digs.

Me...Im anxious as hell to see these mugs.

  • I gotta give credit to 80 for not mentioning PSP's new diss record and all the other tracks that got found. It was all over the page I'm at yesterday, I was like "Damn, I hope 80 don't cover this shit"

As for Hiero jeans.....on the real.....if them shits ain't expensive I'm coppin em. Seriously, I'm not big on pants, but if I could get some jeans with the hiero logo on the back pocket, I think that'd be dope (even though you can rarely see my back pocket)I just hope these cat's don't try and charge an arm and a leg for them. Oh yea, and they should come out with a new damn cd...really. Paid Dues, I seen it once, I'll see it again at Rock the Bells, if it comes to your town...go see it. Even though you don't get the lineup I got, it's still dope.
