Best Of '06: Top Ten West Coast Albums of the Year

First of all, big shouts to all you salty-ass haters out there who dropped in yesterday to tell me that the list of my favorite top ten albums of 2006 was “wack,” “sucked,” etc. But, uhh... I’m gonna go ahead and take your opinions with a grain of salt- especially if you had Fat Joe and/or Lloyd Banks’ albums in your top ten.
But here’s another chance for you to do some more hatin’. Commmmme git serrrrrrrved...
There were two West Coast releases this year that proved to be monumental in the world of hip hop- Doctor’s Advocate and Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, as if that really needed clarification - but all in all, there weren’t a ton of really great albums that came from the Left. Which is why I was forced to include the Ice Cube album and the Too Short album, even though they were both a bit mediocre.
So here they are, in no particular order...
E-40- My Ghetto Report Card
Good beats, and 40 Water’s style sounds perfect on each and every one. “Tell Me When To Go” pretty much put the spotlight on the hyphy movement, which could be a good thing or a terrible thing, depending on who you ask.
The Game- The Doctor’s Advocate
A solid sophomore album from the self procalimed saviour of West Coast hip hop. Now if he could stop acting like a 12 year old every other week, maybe the focus will stay on his music and his obvious talent...
The Jacka, AP 9 and Husalah- Mob Trial
The Mob Figaz come through with an undergrgound heater. If you don’t know who The Jacka is yet, don’t worry- you will by the end of next year.
Daz- So So Gangsta
So so slept on. But the second single, “Weekend,” is starting to spread the word.
Xzibit- Full Circle
The Black John McClain’s best joint since 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz. “The Whole World” is one of the best songs to come out this year.
Murs- Murray’s Revenge
Another album full of dense lyricism from one of backpack rap’s most reliable talents, with spotless production from one of hip hop’s best producers, 9th Wonder.
Oh No- Exodus Into Unheard Rythms
Madlib’s younger brother continues to prove that he’s a force to be reckoned with. “No Aire” with Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox is absolute fire.
Ice Cube- Laugh Now, Cry Later
Took me a while to come around on this one, but “Smoke Some Weed” and “The Nigga Trap” have slowly been changing my mind.
Too Short- Blow The Whistle
A solid album... not too many bells and whistles, but Todd Shaw showed with this one that he’s definitely got some good years left in him.
And... (drumroll please) what is, in my opinion, the best West Coast hip hop album of 2006...
Snoop Dogg- Tha Blue Carpet Treatment
I don’t even really have to say anything about this one. Every time I listen to it, it gets better and better.

The West doesn't have 10 albums this year. I can only go with the 2 I bought which are Snoop and Too Short. Since I am not on the West, I only have access to mainstream, so if you are local, don't get offended, get better promotion.

Nevertheless, although the west made a strong effort to revitalize themselves in mainstream america this year they still have alot of work ahead of them.
1st off what the hell ever happened to the Hyphy movement?
2nd G-Unit West and Spida Loc, why hasn't that popped off yet?
Like i said the west made some strides but ya'll got keep on keepin' on u see NY we droppin' Fab, Pap and Saigon all in the 1st quarter. Thats 3 MC's under the age of 30(fcuk age-that was for the NY haters) droppin' an LP in early 07.
I could careless about wateva the south is doing bcuz i'm 99.9999% sure its a Young Joc Strap or Snap Ur Fingers Part IV album.
And one more thing Snoop had the best West Coast joint of 06 hands down...

Yeah we (the south) owned '06 but yall came out second, and second aint bad considering how yall been asleep the past 5 years before that.

Are you guys crazy. I can't seriously take this sohh Left coast dude serious. How do u talk about best west coast albums of this year and leave out the dilated Peoples 20/20 and Planet Asia "The Medicine"?????I think 20/20 was one of the best albums of ALL COAST this year. Dope beats, Dope rhymes, what else do you want? You can't deny that album had both. I think people really have it twisted to not include them. Sales don't matter when you speak of best album, if this was best selling album, that'd be different, but even then they sold more than Murs i know,so how do you include Murs, and leave out dilated. Murs' album was dope, not as dope as 3:16, or even end of the beggining without 9th wonder on production, but you can't include Murray's revenge and leave out 20/20? I guess you filled your quota of "I don't hit switchs in chucks/pimp hoes/ and gangbang" music with murs, and used the rest of the slots to reinforce the stereotype that all west coast music is gang banging, pimping hoes, cadillacs, chucks and such music. That's why nobody beleives the west has good artist, cuz we promote the bullshit (Ex. Game) as the best we got, and treat dopeness like dilated people like they don't even drop albums.

I dunno what the top 10 albums were but I just gotta say 'The Doctors Advocate' is the best album I ever heard. Snoop's album would have to be 2nd for me. The most disappointing album of 2006 would have to be 'Rotten Apple'. What the fuck happened to LLoyd Banks? His first album was hot but that Rotten Apple was the most garbage album I ever heard. Ice Cube's album would have been good if it was produced by Dre like it was supposed to be originally. Busta Rhymes CD was hot. But once Detox comes out every other album u have mentioned on this post wont even compare.
