SOHH LEFT COAST -

The Game's Remix... Round Two

Posted on November 9, 2006 2:16 AM

gamepirates.jpg

I kind of had a feeling that one day of discussing this wouldn’t be enough, and apparently there are some things from yesterday’s blog that require clarification. So let’s go ahead with round two...

First off, there were 12 different people who responded to yesterday’s blog by calling me a hater. Since when is giving Game dap for his verse and saying that the remix was “definitely one for the books” hating?

This shit actually left me a little concerned. But it’s all good, because I’ve actually made a list of those who had trouble either reading the blog, or processing the information that it contained, and responded by calling me a hater. If you see your name on the list, refer to the link that follows it. I’ve also made some special notes for some of you; you can ask your parents or an older sibling to read them to you.

------------------------------------------------------------

-AJ From Jamaica QNZ

-Bravado

-Naj

-King Of SOHH... This paycheck from Def Jam that you seem to think I’m getting is about as existent as your comprehension of reality. Which is to say, it’s nonexistent. Your conspiracy theory game looks like it has potential though... Try reading Behold A Pale Horse by William Cooper; that shit will help you step your crazy person game up.

-Simon... When you type in all caps, does that mean your chest is all puffed out?

-Nsite

-Akeem

-Realist

-D.A. ... I’m not gonna take anything personal from someone who has come on here every single day to post the release date of The Game’s album. Dude, we got it already. November 14th.

-BWS... You really came on here telling me to get a journalism degree and to “get a better education,” which you preceded by misspelling the word “is,” and followed up by misspelling the word “because.”

-Africa

-Some random dickhead who wrote a comment talking a bunch of shit, and then came on here under a different name (and the same I.P. address) to cosign himself. I forgot his name cause both of his corny ass identities got the delete button).
-------------------------------------------------------------

I want to post a link for all of the aforementioned commenters; it's a link to the National Institute For Literacy: http://www.nifl.gov/

Go holler at it.

One other thing... Fools are on here talking about Ja Rule’s verse like it was the second coming of Christ, saying he “killed it,” “ripped it,” “came hard,” etc. You must’ve all heard a different version than I did... Can somebody please post his verse on here somewhere so I can see where all these dope bars are? Because currently, I’m getting the feeling that his mediocre verse on this track won't be bringing him back from the dead anytime soon.

Just to dumb it down for everybody, I’ll try to put this as simply as possible -- I’m looking forward to hearing Doctor’s Advocate as much as anyone. And I actually liked this remix -- it was monumental -- but I definitely thought it could’ve been better with a few less artists on it. But the way you come on here with your nostrils flared and your little fists balled up, you would swear I had made some disparaging remark about one of your family members... If you disagree with my opinions, that's all gravy, just try to voice it in a more constructive manner, 'cause when you come out here sniveling and cursing at me over some dumb shit, you look like some ignorant 12-year-olds. Guys, this is fucking hip hop... quit taking shit so seriously and have some fun with it.

  • Thank you Eighty for finally attempting to the get the message of literacy across to all the E - Thugs on here.

As it stands i agree with Eighty, this track was indeed monumental. And it was because of the all star line up.

I also stand by previous comments made that the Game, aka Chuck Taylor, aka California Kid, aka Rich Game Bitch, aka JT has improved immeasurably since his release of the 'Documentary'.

Personally speaking, the 'Documentary' wasn't really good. I am a Game fan but i just thought the whole layout was to G Unit gimmicky, and any cd with Feminem deserves a minus rating. [Not a stan fan wiggers so fuck you!]

But songs such as 'Doctors Advocate' and 'My Turn' as well as others has really indicated something great. That although the Games new Cd will follow a similar format to the documentary [as do most cd's now days], his development as an rapper has increased by 100%.

Eighty ... don't forget the 'Blue Carpet Treatment' ... and even the 'Reyes Brothers' recently released cd [it probably sold like 500 copies]

  • When I saw the track and everyone on it I was hype to hear it. After I heard it I was left like this was a waist of money. The beat is too much for these "alright" verses. Ja rule did not killa it, he just went last a the beat broke down for him. No one but lil wayne, santana spit something. Young dro was trying to be canibus. Everyone was ok.

This is going down in history as a crazy remix but game should of remixed a different song.

Oh yeah.........I am from new york living in orlando. I'm not bias to anyone but I think daz ripped it.

  • Yeah this is a lot of hate. But that is what happens when you put Game, G-Unit, Jay, Nas, or Dipset in the subject line.

We should appreciate the fact that niggas actually didn't make up a remix with all hella old verses, and pass that shit off. Some verses were way better than others, but the song is still fire. And some niggas are only tired because they play the radio all day. I don't and the track still bumps hella hard.

It wasn't the greatest remix ever, but it was a good look right before the album drops. He got over 20 MCs to rap on one track, and niggas spent more time talking about who could have done better...can't win for losing.

  • First off the Game is like any rapper, they are all redundant. Jay-z always talking about Beyonce, selling drugs, almost getting caught, girls, being CEO, baby, damn how many times as he said that. Ludacris, always talking about the ATL, girls, money, being poor to being rich, T.I. "I am the King of the South", drugs, rubberbands, death. Nas, New York, mother, children, death, drugs, weed. Every rapper has a trademard and is expected to be redundant. This is called a leitmotif, which means a dominant and recurring theme. Anyone who can prove otherwise let me see the proof and don't begin to reiterate fallacy's that have no truth to it. One last thing The Game is gonna sell 1 million the first week. Hate it or Love it Game's on top and 50 when is your hate gonna stop. Until then caperdium.

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off dumb ass...D-Block will never do a song with a rat. Haven't you seen death before dishonor? D-Block will always keep it New York and will never do bubble gum shit. Dipset, they are alright, but no good album. I have never heard of P-Unit other than Oliver and when is the transvestite coming out. Also, I thought Young Buck was comint out in November, what happened? This just in LLoyd Banks has gone 2X platinum and his album got 5 mic's and is the illest rapper out right now. That freestyle was the illest freestyle ever, he ripped it. P-Unit has been peed on a shitted on and no toilet paper or bleach can clean that mess up. By the way Keven Federline is hip-hop just like 50 cent. How do you know that Dre and Game aren't talking to each other, you must be a groupie and you are banging both of them and telling them to talk to each other, right. First you wear an Aftermath chain while with Dre and when you are with the Game you put on that Black Wall Street chain. Stop assuming what you don't know.

  • Here is Ja Rule's verse

    [Verse 23- Ja Rule]
nigga one trick, one blood, L.A., New York
The Game, the RULE, one love, guns up
Hands down, can't touch, the flow is a bit much
The style, wanna keep up, I advise you to speed up
With money movin' like coke these days, gotta re-up
G up, cop some heaters and dare a nigga to act up
You see us in gold seaters and throw it up
Its all hood, niggas rep your sets if your cuz or blood
niggas we all bleed, these niggas can't breathe
Only because the guns are drawn and aimed to part
niggas who got bullets with names on them
Want 'em, come get 'em niggas, ya'll know where to get at me
Look at me, now pass me, maybe you can be half me
You bastards, I'm laughin', bullets stickin' in family
Who sadly gets torn between one crip and one blood
    Ya Niggas Know Man..Yeah

  • NY Times said:

"50 Cent was right: Dr. Dre stayed away. But the Game decided to forge ahead anyway with “Doctor’s Advocate”; it’s hard to think of another rapper who would name an album after someone who declined to work on it. And in the extraordinary title track, the Game apologizes to his childhood hero, sort of. The first verse begins with a rapper who sounds as if he’s about to cry:"

Dre, I ain’t mean to turn my back on you

But I’m a man, and sometimes a man do what he gotta do

    Remember? I’m from Compton, too

I saw you and Eazy in ’em, so I started wearing khaki suits

    I was 12, smoking chronic in ’92

His album is just a long ass Hallmark card to Dre. How can it be the best of the year?

Niggas is sayin Ja ripped it b/c they are tired of fifty..and Vetti Venni Vicci (whatever) that was NOT a bad album. Shit i'm hoping he do something too 50 is saturating the game. If you look at Banks Hands Up video and Hot Rod's Be Easy video the shit is not moving. Then again it probably moves the young'ns and that's all he needs to do his numbers so lemme shutup

  • while I do agree Ja's lyrics were pretty much run of the mill....I think everybody is giving props on flow/swagger more than anything else, and thats what made his verse hot, it the OLD R.U.L.E. back from the dead, not the 'I cant win this beef with 50' rule.....

Its almost like he got that hunger back, but we'll see where it goes....

and yeah lets make this the turning point where yall SOHH bloggers eat up them ignorant, one brain cell idiots who get off shoutin the same bull-ass-shit but not saying nothin....keep it up, put em all on the front page til stop coming back....

I love the Game and I don't know if he will sell as much as 50 (which does NOT mean 50 is better, that's just how the industry is right now) but I do hope he out sells the rest of G-Unit. Although I do like Young Buck he is the best out the bunch (which is my opinion).

Oh Yeah whatever happened to Olivia?

  • Eighty,
I definately see where you coming from. The remix is monumental simply because Game was able to get 12 rappers to spit on it, not because it was a lyrical masterpiece. I only give Game, Juelz, Bun B, Jada and Styles, and Loso any props cuz they were the only ones that really merked the song. Nas and T.I. were even sub par, and they usually rip shit.

Everyone hopping on the bandwagon and saying Ja came hard and he's back, get the fuck outta here, Young Dro's verse was way better than his. I'm comparing Ja to Mase when he first came back. Everybody thought he was gonna be hot again just off one damn song (ie. Lean Back remix). Don't get it twisted, I'm not hating on Ja, I hope he can get back to his Venni Vetti Vicci days. Half of them rappers could have been cut out because that damn beat gets annoying after 10+ minutes (Especially E-40, Fat Joe and NORE, they spit hot garbage).

Alot of people is looking for something now that G-Unit ain't what they used to be. I liked the song I personally still think that Game should have made two and Put half on one half on another. Bottom line though on the subject is alot of people on the internet are PUNKS in real life. They are the type to never say anything at all or pop shit behind peoples back so they trash talk on the internet while being soft as baby cheeks. Big up you do your thang.

  • One other thing...

THANK YOU!!!! And i like Rule!! But he didnt do any damage on that shit. Truth be told he was prolly the most garbage if not THE most garbage verse on the song. If his shit was so fire please somebody post his shit so i can see what im missing.

It was tie id say between him and Young Dro and i like Dro too. He just need to change up that flow. He gets on every song the same way from what i have heard.

have we all forgotten the 3 years stop snitching and G-UNOT campaign????

stop flip floppin because someone made a song with a descent sound...why is no one bigging up his second single which has no beef connotations in it???

and my only issue with the nigga is that he keeps looking like he's feigning for attention..to put your enemy's main enemy on a song can only mean that you have accepted the fact that all your other actions have done nothing to him....

yall can sit here and say that bank's sales have something to do with game..but if you get your head out your ass for a minute and look at the industry as a whole you would see he is no different from anyone else....

shit little wayne is one of the hottest niggas in the game right now and his shit only sold 175K...god only knows what jim jones will sell..that balling song was one of the hottest records in a while...

    Sup Caff

Yeah I am a woman, but I ain't no old softy, but I actually am interested in hearing this CD largely because I heard there is a sensative side to it. We can all be like, "he goin out like a straight biatch," but the fact is most of us have fallen out with friends and many of us have tried to repair the damage. It is relatable. As a matter of fact most of us can relate to that more than we can relate to busting caps and ish.

My thing is if he pulls it off with this album it just goes to show he didn't need Dre. I say phuck that dude. He's too wishy washy and don't half want to work. When's the last time he put out a beat? Game went at 50 exactly how he was supposed to not wind up like Ja Rule.

  • Instead of us trying to dismantle the song with "this nigga sucks" or "this nigga ain't spit as hard as he normally does" or just flat out hating because he's the Game and got beef with 50, how about celebrating the fact that in this age in hip hop when everyone wants to beef with everyone, Game was able to put 24 MC's from all over the country onto one song. Hip Hop needed that shit. There were 24 MC's in like 12 minutes. That's an average of 30 sec per MC, and some of their verses were over that. Niggas not gonna spit their hottest shit in 15 sec, lets be realistic.

If anything you came off that way by trying to call myself and the other people listed outand put us on blast! What your feelings were hurt? Need a tissue? Some wet wipes? Lol you are a joke just like your blogs. i see why you are a blogger and not a real journalist! I fully comprehended all that was stated on your first blog "the Game remix and its 947 rappers" The title alone suggested some hate brewing those were your words in plain english so perhaps you need to learn how to choose the correct words when you blog that way it won't be misinterpreted by people. All in all i never made a direct attack at you precious blog onh sensitive one in fact it was moreso aimed at some of the other comments. I was saying that people hate on Ja just for the sake of hating than actuallytrying to hear him out because as soon as 50 hated everyone jumped on the bandwagon (myself included) I had grown tired of Ja's singing i missed the grimy stuff but in hind sight 50 doing the same thing so it made me realize damn I, we hated on Ja for no reason. And keeping it real ja was never that lyrical so his verse on the remix was good his flow was vintage Ja so theres was no reason to hate on his verse he spit like he always spit average! But fam it's Hip Hop like you said so stop taking thes comments so seriously. Now wipe them tears and have me a good blog ready for tommorow.

Just because he choose to correct certian ones on their assumption, though in the process of assuming some in the same manner. The Remix is fun to listen to. How many people do yall songs out in the air right now where you can be like okay that's Nas, Oh shit that's Snoop, Damn and T.I. just to name a few. Old and Young cats got a little something to vibe to. Shit it's like a mixtape compacted into ten minutes. I must agree with some that the remix can get annoying after a few minutes, and a different beat may have been what the Dr. order (no pun intended) but none the less it was fun to listen to. By the way Ja verse wasn't real hot but He did sound the Pre-50 Ja before fifty butt fucked him and made him go away for a lil bit. Sound likes he found his swagger, it'll be good for the hip hop game is Ja can challenge 50 as far as making hits. I wouldn't mine seeing Ja come back but he got to get rid of this Alter ego called Loki. Nigga your alter ego is Ja Rule. How the hell you gonna have 2 alter egos. That's like a double negative or some shit like that.

  • MY OPINION...tightest flows, in order form greatest to wackest

    1. Bun-B killed it!

    2. Fat Joe (hot! Sounded nice on the beat)

    3. T.I. (rode the beat nice, shined on this song not because of anything he said, but the style is nice)

    4. Ja-Rule- came best on the beat.

    5. Young Dro- loved how he did what he do on here.

    6. Jadakiss (lyricist, came real hard claimin the whole city.)

    7. Fabo (lyrics)

    8. WC

    9. Nas (gettin at Dip Set...not a fabulous verse)

    10. Daz

    11. Snoop Dogg (not a good beat for his style if you ask me)

    12. Sheek Louch- aight

    13. Game (I just ain't impressed with the lil I've heard from this dude)

    14. Twista- He shoulda came faster and harder the whole verse, he coulda stole it)

Dude after Twista..not impressed. Who was that anyway. Ok..from here on out, it was pure wackness.

    15. E-40. E-40 is just played out to me. His style began to get annoying to me way back in the mid nineties. Was tight in the beginning...but the dude will work your nerves after too long. No reason for him to have contributed a verse.

    16. Chamillionaire- Oh my goodness, this cat shoulda spent that time doin somethin' else. You talented yes, but on this song...no. Not a good look, you shouldn't have got on this one homey.

    17. Lil Wayne- wack verse.

    18. Nore- ummm....no.

    19. Jim Jones- super wack verse. I've heard tighter verses on Acid Planet.

That cat after Dro...too many biblical refernces to be spittin with that garbage you came with. I'm not sayin he was the wackest..but, it was fairly wack.

Those is my opinions...not worth much, but it is what it is. Overall though, I would not recommend the song. Noone shined to the point I would say "yo, did you hear that verse on that remix". I can safely I will never listen to this song again, and I pray that noone ever in the history of music ever waste over 10 minutes on such a wack song.

Like I said earlier, they shoulda let me spit that real "Blood" music. That's that Jesus Christ. The "One Blood" that will get yo behind into heaven.

    God Bless!
    PZ

  • Yo, I heard the remix and it's aiight, I think NAs killed everyone, but that's just me.

I got a bootleg copy of The Doctor's Advocate this weekend. Before I heard it I was ready to shit on Game, but the album's dope. I say 4 mics, nothing more nothing less. It's solid and the production is on point, but there are a lot of Dre-ish beats. But this nigga needs to stop droppin names...for real, the nigga drops Dre's name at least 60 times on the muthafucker, B EZ. But for those of all waitin on Game to flop, it doesn't look like it's happening this album, he put his work in.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ray, you're right about rappers using the liet motif. But, you're inaccurate about Nas. Honestly, that nigga runs around the same themes(black man's plight, hoes, drugs). But, he does avoid sounding redundant. I'm telling u, cuz. If u listen to all of the Nas albums, he stays coming anew everytime. He's prolly the only nigga who can dwell around the same subjects and say it like he's never said it b4. Alright, that's enough dickridin. Anywayze, Has any of ya'll rummage through the mind 2 recite a Ja Rule verse that I should've remember? If not, Ja Rule shall remain the owner of the most mediocore verses ever said in East Coast rap. That's it, that's all. Good night, world. 2 DA WEST, my niggas!

Repentant Yet Defiant, a Rapper at His Best

“Doctor’s Advocate,” the latest CD by the Game, comes out on Tuesday.
    Readers’ Opinions
    Forum: Popular Music

That question is the title of the last track on the new album by the Game, the petulant hip-hop star from Compton, Calif. He’s not really looking for answers, but answers aren’t hard to find. Why would anyone hate this guy? Well, maybe because he’s an overbearing braggart, a tireless name-dropper, a mealy-mouthed provocateur, a sluggish rapper, a witless wag and a shameless sycophant. For a start.
And yet, barring some last-minute surprise, he has made the best hip-hop album of the year. It’s called “Doctor’s Advocate” (Geffen), and it comes out on Tuesday. (Although pirated copies surfaced last week.) And it puts the Game’s booming voice and bad attitude front and center. He’s needy in the worst way: desperate to be loved, respected, feared. And instead of hiding that neediness, he flaunts it; the result is a riveting portrait of the artist as a wannabe.
Let’s start with that title, which is either a heartfelt tribute, a desperate ploy, a veiled insult or — most likely — some combination of the three. In 2005, when the Game released his major-label debut, “The Documentary,” he was a protégé of both 50 Cent and Dr. Dre, the producer who helped invent the sound of Los Angeles hip-hop. Then 50 Cent and the Game began their noisy feud. It often seemed they were vying for Dr. Dre’s attention: The Game claimed that Dr. Dre would contribute to his second album; 50 Cent swore the producer would not.
50 Cent was right: Dr. Dre stayed away. But the Game decided to forge ahead anyway with “Doctor’s Advocate”; it’s hard to think of another rapper who would name an album after someone who declined to work on it. And in the extraordinary title track, the Game apologizes to his childhood hero, sort of. The first verse begins with a rapper who sounds as if he’s about to cry:
Dre, I ain’t mean to turn my back on you
But I’m a man, and sometimes a man do what he gotta do
    Remember? I’m from Compton, too
I saw you and Eazy in ’em, so I started wearing khaki suits
    I was 12, smoking chronic in ’92
Those extremes — the plaintive “Remember?”; the defiant “I’m a man” — echo through the verses. And though neither is totally convincing, it’s hard to tell where the Game’s bad faith stops. Is he merely pretending to be contrite? Or is he merely pretending to be defiant? Or, somehow, both? The skits that frame the song make it even harder to unravel. (The Game is drunk and depressed; Busta Rhymes tries to rouse him.)
The Game is clearly obsessed with the rappers who came before him, and it’s an obsession that demands a tally. In the course of 16 songs, he makes reference to no less than 44 different hip-hop stars, including two named Ice (Cube and -T), three named Lil (Jon, Kim and Wayne) and two named Young (Jeezy and M.C.). And no one comes up more often than Dr. Dre, whose name finds its way into nearly every song. By album’s end he has been invoked about 30 times; the absent mentor is everywhere.
Despite Dr. Dre’s absence, this album sounds much more like an Los Angeles album than its predecessor. “Too Much” has a typically smooth sung hook by Nate Dogg and a spot-on beat by Scott Storch, who knows how to make a track sound Dre-ish. (You’ll need a fluid bass line, some spare keyboard notes, some cinematic strings, an impossibly hard backbeat.) Hi-Tek produced the slow-rolling “Ol’ English,” a tribute to the Game’s favorite malt liquor and his favorite typeface, too. Even will.i.am, from the Black Eyed Peas, gets in on the act: he produced “Compton,” which lovingly recreates the menacing sound of old-fashioned gangsta rap.
The Game’s flow couldn’t possibly be described as nimble. (Neither could his wordplay: “Get stretched out like a limo”?) But he has a terrific voice, bassy and raspy, and there’s something enthralling about the way he pushes through to the end of the line, often falling slightly behind the beat, and sometimes straining to cram in extra words. He knows the value of negative space, so he doesn’t fill the songs with chatter and noise; he clearly loves the sound of sharp consonants and hoarse vowels over a half-empty beat. Compared with slick Southern rappers or wordy New York rappers, the Game is a minimalist, a true believer in the power of simplicity.
That simplicity has often been a hindrance on mixtapes, where you can find many of his vituperative but dull rhymes about 50 Cent. But here, the stripped-down approach serves him well. He knows how to reduce a violent story to its bare essentials: “Used to think that I was hard, so I stole my brother’s Glock/And that’s the day my life changed, ’cause that night, he got shot/Killed by another Crip over his Rolex watch.” It’s an appalling little story, but you can detect a hint of bravado in his voice, the same bravado, perhaps, that makes a boy steal a gun. If this album is a little bit less fun than “The Documentary,” it’s also a lot more memorable.
In hip-hop flawed protagonists rule; no one wants to hear a (purely) good guy rap. But the Game has an unusual flaw: his problem is that he really wants to be a hip-hop star, wants it so badly he can’t disguise it. He probably knows it’s a bad idea to call himself the “West Coast Rakim,” or to boast, “I’m B.I.G., I’m Cube, I’m Nas, I’m ’Pac,” or to obsequiously praise Snoop Dogg in nearly every song. He probably knows that thinly veiled criticisms of other rappers won’t earn him the respect he wants. (At one point he raps, “I don’t need no ‘Encore,’ no claps, no cheers,” alluding to the Jay-Z song.) He probably knows it’s embarrassing to release a whole CD about a guy who doesn’t seem to be returning his calls. But he is doing it anyway.
You don’t have to admire the Game’s approach to love this album. Even the Game’s many detractors may find themselves falling for these trunk-rattling tracks, whether they admit it or not. But the more you listen to these rhymes, the less unfathomable they seem. If the Game sounds too insecure, too greedy for admiration, too worried about how he’s perceived, well, maybe he’s not the only one. In other words, you might never grow to love that scowling poseur on the cover. But you just might recognize him.
