Here is your super-abbreviated version of Random Shit for the week.
The Game played Times Square. The kids loved him. He’ll also be playing a free concert in LA next week. If you missed him at the $2 Bill show he did in LA, go catch this one. After that, he’ll be doing photography for Playboy because the editors apparently decided that rappers don’t already have enough skanky mudflap bitches to skeet on.
Snoop's coming out with clothing for dogs. Or doggs, rather. I can’t fucking wait to see what this looks like.
Don’t forget, his album comes out next week, and the shit is fire. It sucks that there hasn’t been a little more promotion but you know, a muhfucka’s got court cases to fight...
DJ Muggs has now branched into the hip hop hipster boutique business; Greyone has merged with Soul Assassins. And yes, I do realize that this means absolutely nothing for the vast majority of you.
To make up for further tarnishing Pac's life with yet another crappy post-mortem album, Afeni Shakur is holding some sort of creative contest in Pac’s memory. Well, to answer your question, the people who gave me this job not only know about apostrophes, periods and commas, but can also spell the word “know” correctly, you little fuckin’ crumb.
And to end things off on a positive note, there was a late post on yesterday’s blog about up and coming West Coast artists, and dude dropped some insight; for some of you from the East or Down South, you might learn a lil’ something about the Cali hip hop scene here. For anyone who didn’t get the chance to read it yesterday, I’m reposting it here.

“Ok, I read everybody's posts on here, and it's funny how 99.9% of dudes don't even think about what they're saying, or maybe they just didn't understand the question. They just ramble on and on about all the underground talent they know about on the West Coast.
California, in my opinion, has the most stable underground scene of any region. Period. There's so much quality music being sold in the streets out here, it's ridiculous. And depressing, from a standpoint of seeing it as impossible for ALL of these artists to ever truly be heard. Despite the fact they're a goldmine.
I think for some West Coast artists, that's where a lot of the feelings come into play. You have an artits like The Game, who undeniably has truck loads of talent...but is there not a handful of other artists who might, just might, have 'deserved' that shot before Game? Who might have handled the spotlight in a more professional manner, opening the doors for other West Coast talent? This is a whole other subject altogether, so I'll keep it moving.
The question was who's next blow. The next to 'blow' (this is a stupid term, because to us it equals success, which is the problem with the whole industry anyways) - I'll coin it better: The next person to be marketed on a national level will be Glasses Malone. You'll see that followed by Lil' Eazy. Both of them have incredible music, hands-down the best music being made in hip-hop today. Anybody that would rather hear Paul Wall make another album about grillz rather than hear Glasses...well...I don't know. You need someone to sit down with you.
And to be honest, I think that's where it stops. Like I said, it's not that there's no talent out here...it's just that there's no options for these artists other than to work their music in the streets of Cali. The industry's a trainwreck, and none of these majors give a rat's ass about the West. So until there's some major renovations done within the industry, the buck stops here.
Bottom line is it's time for the artists to come together and figure out what's going to happen next. Radio, MTV, record stores...all that's dinosaur. It's time to take control of the art and take it into the new millenium. Figure out how to reach these kids in 2007 and on. Don't sit around waiting on some cracker record label clown to rape you for you money, sell 75,000 units of your album and send you off to milk carton status. Your careers in your hands. God with you...”

People keep saying quality matters, not sales. I'm confused. Do you expect these people to hold down regular 9 to 5 jobs for the sake of putting out quality music at their expense? They want music to be their profession and they'd like to get rich off of it which in most cases means they need sales on a national level.
Otherwise these stifled artists need to study Too Short, Master P and Prince. These three cats said phuck a lable ima do this on my own. Get you a multiple CD burner and hit the streets with your own ish. If you sell a paltry 10,000 copies out of your trunk at $10 each that is 100k for your pocket. You have to be willing to grind and be happy with only regional recognition and doing without the 100k diamond encrusted chains from Jacob the Jeweler.
If you can be successful, the first thing you need to invest in is some quality studio equipment so you don't have to mortgage your children to create a CD. Otherwise shut up about that quality over money for crying out loud.
As for someone else deserving the shot over Game, the proof is in the pudding. He is the one that made it and he is EXTREMELY successful in a sea of rappers worldwide. Yeah he deserves it over that undiscovered dude who hasn't even figured out how to get in his spot yet.
Whoever said somebody deserves a shot over GAME on the Westcoast is misguided. I feel for true hip hop artists from the west but your own people make it hard for you. Can anyone forget the madness that was deathrow? The last time you dudes had a shot you turned hip hop into civil war and divided the black community over something as trivial as music. We're still feeling the effects of that. Other than Ice Cube (solo career)I can't think of a major artist from Cali who didn't assist with the divide and conquer of our people in the name of what? Impalas?
I love black people from EVERYWHERE but if there's a hesitancy to let the west get back in pocket it should be obvious why.
A byproduct of the reign of west coast hip hop is the spread of gang culture to places as far as Africa. Crips and Bloods in Africa?!! Atonement is in order!

NOBBODY'S FAN! BUT GAME'S ALBUM IS FIRE.He sounds like Dre though. I guess that's what sorta makes it hot but I cannot take anything from Game he did his thing. iF Game Just stop talking about G-unit and he will be OKAY.(But i guess that is part of his marketing scheem that he learned from 50 I ain't mad @ that) Game's music will speak for itself. I think he could possibly push 700k to Plat after a slow burn and slow grind. But the album is good.

I'm from New York but I have to keep it real. The Game album is great. I wasn't really feeling the 2 singles. That were just ok to me. Well the cd has 16 tracks and at least 12 are heat. I've only listened to it 3 or 4 times but Game came correct. I'm looking real forward to Snoop's album on Tuesday. The west is back

Contrary to popular belief, Kali ain't responsible for what's bad in hip hop and never was – contributed, yes; solely responsible, not hardly. New York created a form of expression that appealed to young, mostly poor blacks and latinos.
Yeah, hip hop started off as fun and games, but that was pretty much the culture of young, mostly poor blacks and latinos in the late 70s and early to mid 80s. Now, that has changed, and to put blame strictly on the west's shoulders is either giving us a little too much credit or displaying ignorance to the current culture of young, mostly poor blacks and latinos.
Deathrow was a corrupt label run by a gangster. You really think he trademarked running a label in that manner – nope. How many labels back then were funded with drug money? I bet it was more than just a Kali label. Suge got the attention because he put himself out there, but I would seriously doubt he was the only one doing it like that. Kali artists did have some say in the east coast / west coast beef, but if I can recall they were not in it by themselves, much like what is going on with the east and south now.

Trust me, when the west gets on videos with red and blue flags it ain't to recruit new members. It's just a way of showing people where they are from. I'm sure there are a certain population of people when introduced to something new will follow regardless. Plus, that same ignorance created groups like NWA who opened the eyes of Amerikkka to what is going on in the ghettos.
You may say the gang culture is ignorant, but how does it differ so much from anything else going on anywhere else. They fight over "so called" control of blocks and territories. They sell dope and kill people. I hear the same thing going on in the south, east, and Midwest sometimes it is "gang-related (crips and bloods)" and sometimes it is just regular old bad people.
I don't think you were trying to take a dig at the West Coast, but it sure sounded that way. In the mean time I just ran out and copped that Game CD and I am ready to cry. He brought me back to my early 90s Cali beats that put The Chronic, Doggystlye and ANYTHING from Quik in my top 20 all time favorites when I am not even a rap fan and have a music collection that goes back over 30 years. This ish is more than FIRE.

My dude, the funding of labels was never an issue in my post. MARKETING strategy was and the west did indeed set a dangerous trend. Before NWA the image of hip hop was primarilly in the hands of white execs who either controlled the record companies or the airwaves the music relied on for growth. The whites needed buffers to get away with projecting negative images of black people and then they appeared in the form of rap CEO's who started saying and doing things no white man would've gotten away with. There were no shortage of so called "entrepreneurs" aka HOUSE NIGGERS volunteering for the job. Instead of 30 pieces of silver they were given material wealth on a scale they never imagined although it paled in comparison to what their corporate sponsors amassed. Jimmy Iovine through a succession of west coast puppets has has controlled the dominant images of rap but perception of black males beginning around 90 through his control of Cali "power-less" houses. Eventually "black" radio had to acquiesce... for fee of course.
Now, once Easy E and other cats opened that bottle there was no putting the genie back in the bottle so to speak and Tupac while under deathrow became the biggest ambassador of this minstrel show called GANGSTA RAP. His influence is also undeniable.
Yes, NY did follow suit with crack rap but let's not put the carriage in front of the horse. Ignorance breeds ignorance. Be a man and stand accoutable for your actions. We all played our part but we won't fix the problem if we fail to acknowledge it.
Easy E and others I don't have time to name provided a convenient way to exploit our community as out leaders stood silent and confused since the perpetrators were BLACK.
Now those same leaders have hitched their cart to the ignorance and the madness has become a runaway train.

as usual the white man is blamed for everything the blak mans downfall, well just ask youself one thing: if you was an apiring rap artist would you rather be on bad boy and end up getting killed or taking the fall for that bitch diddy and get you ass locked up or on def jam and and aftermath where you just get forgotten about or on shady who is a "cracker record label" where everyone gets promotion, get taken on worldwide tours and if you get dissed by someone the "cracker" owner of the label would jump in and try to destroy them for you.
see black people need to stop acting like victims, people arent bad because theyre black or white or asian or whatever, theyre bad because theyre bad and youre gonna get screwed over regardless of colour. if black people were being held back and screwed over then why are two of the most important people in the white house black?.
All of this boils down to hip hop and the influence that it has. Cali has had a terrible gang problem for decades. Somehow it stayed there FOR DECADES. Suddenly you have this deadly combination of events that is rap (not hip hop) going mainstream reaching fans all over the world, the arrival of crack cocaine and a hustle named Eazy E.
Those events changed the hood and rap music forever. The south is taking rap back to the fun party days, but the landscape has changed so drastically that "the streets" call it garbage. Eazy gave the world a glimpse of gangsta reality and from then on every MC had to "hard" and show how "hard" his hood was. Eazy, Snoop, Suge, Game, Tupac, Puff, Big and more all had gang affiliations in one way or another and broadcast it to a young fan base that wanted nothing better than to be like them.
It's not just the West. Everyone had a role in it: the Government, the rappers from both coasts, the record labels, the fans. Everyone.
I don't know if we can turn back at this point.

Trust me dog, I ain't arguing any of your points. I'm just thinking the exploitation of the CEOs and artists and negatively influencing the public was as inevitable as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
We tend to discuss everything like it's a perfect world and say if only this occurred or if only that occurred, everything would've been okay. I'm just saying even if gangsta rap had never been created and there was no Suge Knight/Eazy E or west coast rap for that matter, I believe the exact same thing would have happened – the exploitation of CEOs/artists and artists negatively influencing the younger generation.
We have to look at who is in the rap game and who are the CEOs. Honestly, most of these artists and some of the CEOs are the most ignorant and stupid cats I've seen (at least according to what they portray on television). A point you were saying. These are some of the same cats we grew up with knowing they were ignorant or stupid, now they're just ignorant, stupid, and rich.
Of course, these individuals are easily influenced and taken advantage of just as some of their "sheep" fans. I just think back then and even now for that matter, nobody really gives 2 cents about how their music influences people or the big picture. It's all about the benjamins.
The music business is theirs (white folks), we just created a form of music within the business. Now and back then, we have individuals who want a piece of the big money. The only thing most of the cats battling for a piece of that money are the worse representation of us – East, West, South, and Midwest. It's like we have the dumbest person in the class representing us on Jeopardy because he has a couple of hook-ups to get on the show.

You can't blame the situation on a coast. NYC may not have had the gangs, but they still had the violence. I just kinda feel like it was "neater" at one time. A cat in NYC was more likely to walk up on ya rather than pull a driveby and hit some unsuspecting 3 year old. Now little New York kids trying to imitate the wild west who I guess they felt were doing it better than they were use to.

Da Natrol, I see where you're coming from and agree. The problem IS bigger than any coast. I merely attempted to pinpoint the starting point as it relates to hip hop and I agree that it's very debatable if HIP HOP is removed from the equation.

Rapper The Game was arrested Thursday morning (November 16th) in New York City for allegedly impersonating a police officer. It is sad, Game fans hear a rumer that Game did 150k in one day and 450k his first week and believe it's true. The day after the DA released niggas was all like "He will sell 450k this week!"
