It's All Led Up To This... Doctor's Advocate Finally Drops

So today is the proverbial judgement day: November 14th. The speculation as to whether or not The Game’s album can come anywhere near the sales benchmark that The Documentary set will either be validated or dismantled in the coming weeks, and the question that has been up in the air for the past several months will be answered- Can The Game carry the West Coast on his back?
And do we need him to?
It’s been a while since a figure in hip hop has had audiences this polarized, and it’s arguable that there has never been a West Coast artist so equally loved and loathed. If you need any proof of this, you need look no further than any of the SOHH Left Coast blogs posted in the last two months. In blogs where the topic was Game-related, fans and Stans and haters of The Game bickered relentlessly; even in blogs where the topic had absolutely nothing to do with The Game or Doctor’s Advocate, conflicts would bubble up out of nowhere, and every day without fail, some self-appointed member of the D.A. internet promotional team would inevitably post the track listing for the album or praise for the album or a 3 week old quote from MTV about how “Game stopped by our offices today...”
Although I don’t really dislike The Game, he’s not my favorite rapper either; I think his lyrics are pretty good, his cadence is cool and he has a dope voice. But when he starts up with his over-the-top, mean-mugging tough guy hood swagger, I just can’t take him seriously, and I’d be lying if I said that doesn’t have at least a little effect on me when I’m listening to his music. I’ve looked forward to hearing Doctor’s Advocate, but I probably didn’t share the same sort of crazed anticipation that a lot of other hip hop fans carried; yet my middle-of-the-road stance on this rapper has been met with criticism from all sides. One day some little dipshit is complaining about how I’m a Game hater and I shouldn’t ever say anything negative about a rapper from my own state; then just as quickly, I’m labeled as a Game dickrider if I say anything positive about him. I can’t remember seeing this kind of rabid loyalty to rappers before this whole G-Unit/G-Unot bullshit came along, and frankly, I can’t wait until all of it goes away.
The bottom line is that the steamrolling promotional blitzkrieg that has preceded this album has drawn an insane amount of attention to it. Whether or not you like him, you have to admit that in the last few months, Game has been living proof that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Besides whatever promo budget Interscope gave him, he got shitloads of free pub by just talking shit and perpetuating beef like he normally does. And whether you approved or disapproved, he kept his name in everyone’s mouth for a solid two to three months before the album dropped. At this point, it’s very unlikely that the album’s going to flop; it’s also a bit of an unlikelihood that it will enjoy the same success as Documentary. But for those of you thinking that this is the end, guess again; if I had to place my chips right now, I’d bet that for AT LEAST the next two weeks, every day someone will have some kind of comment about the album in the comment boards.
Although I’m a little pissed that I still haven’t recieved the album after Interscope told me that would mail me a copy a couple days before the release, if the album still hasn’t arrived in my mailbox after work today, I’ll probably head to a local record store and trade in some of the shitty CDs I’ve gotten in the mail in the last week to cop the album. And for the record, I really do hope that it lives up to the hype. But to be perfectly honest, I can’t wait until this is all over with and we can all start talking about something else.
I almost forgot; if there’s someone out there who wants to go to the record and cop something else, Mac Mall came out with a new album called Thizziana Stoned and the Temple of Shrooms. Seriously. Wait till you see the album cover...

I have the nervous energy and its not my ALBUM! My thing is I like his music I got a couple of his mixtapes he does good work. I think that I'm Chillin song should have made the cut though. READ THIS REVIEW FROM HIPHOPDX AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN
I’m not sure if it’s a shame or if it’s appropriate that this album will largely just be judged by Game dickriders claiming it’s a classic and G-Unot fell off and 50 Cent fan boys calling it wack and calling Gayme a faggot. It’s a shame because an albums success shouldn’t be fueled or failed by fans whose homoerotic blind allegiances won’t allow them to deal in anything but wild extremes. Though it may be appropriate as Game has really brought that on himself with his constant flip flopping, one week claiming he is done beefing with G-Unit, a 7000 bar diss track the next week, then offering a truce to 50 the next week followed quickly by another 8400 bar diss.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to controversy for The Game though, there has been endless speculation about his being sent from Aftermath to Geffen and why his “Doctor” wasn’t doing any beats on an album with the title dedicated to him. Toss in a fight with Ras Kass, the ever-changing tattoo, Change of Heart, steady claims he isn’t a blood and Game’s constant shit talking about anyone and anything and you’ve got a never ending buzz about an album.
Things haven’t really changed much from The Documentary, even with the absence of Dr. Dre (whose fingerprints still seem to be present mind you). The production (Just Blaze, Kanye West, Will.i.am, Hi-Tek, Scott Storch, Nottz, JR Rotem, Swizz Beatz, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil), is absolutely outstanding yet again. While it may not have quite as many jaw dropping beats as The Documentary had, it is just as consistent. Unfortunately, Game’s incessant name dropping is still here, every bit as excessive and irritating as it was last time, if not worse. Name drops of rappers and/or albums: 142. Of that, 41 is Dr. Dre. That folks, is ridiculous.
The problem with Game is he is pretty terrible when he has nothing to talk about, and it just becomes him trying not to ruin a dope beat with name-checking and infinite references to low riders, bloods, bandanas, guns, daytons, weed, khaki suits and chucks. Which is exactly why the best songs on the album come when Game gets sincere with his subject matter; Why You Hate The Game featuring Nas, One Night (though some may question its legitimacy), Ol’ English and Doctor’s Advocate featuring Busta Rhymes. The latter song really puts Game’s behavior into perspective, painting a picture of him as a young man struggling to handle all the spotlight and drama he was suddenly thrust into. Ironically, he does a lot of name-checking here, but there is actually some context and reason to it, and it works.
Compton, featuring and produced by Will.i.am, is a shining example of Game’s shortcomings as an emcee. In what could have been an incredible tribute to the historical city (as Will’s beat is pure heat), Game just talks random shit for 3 verses, never really saying much at all. He manages to get by on Just Blaze’s ridiculous 1992 Dre impression on The Remedy. The same can be said for the Swizz Beatz banger Scream On’em, I mean really, what the hell does this mean? “blow his fucking back out/cause I’m the rap Stackhouse.” What is the rap equivalent to Jerry Stackhouse? Nothing, that is rhyming for the sake of rhyming and making no sense. Which he does a lot, along with just rhyming the same word with each other. On tracks like Let’s Ride Game is flat out awful, supporting anyone’s notion that he can’t rhyme for shit. Or on the albums weakest track Around The World he spits “She like that Jay shit, that’s her favorite/if it’s gonna get me the pussy I’ma play that shit/if she bite too hard I’m say that shit/but don’t bite me bitch I don’t play that shit.” That is just so wack. But then he turns around on a song like Hi-Tek’s sinister Ol’ English and you’re thinking ‘damn, dude is dope.’ Some people can talk nonsense all day and sound fly doing it, Game can’t. He needs topics, and when he does, he’s dope as hell. For someone who claims to be so real, he spends most of the album shoving his gimmick down your throat and it suffers for it. When he actually does come “real,” he makes classic songs, there is no denying that.
The soundscapes definitely deserve most of the credit here. JR Rotem is probably the show stealer here, bringing back the classic west coast whine on the booming California Vacation and showing the soul on the title track. Along with the aforementioned Remedy, Just Blaze was also responsible for the standout Why You Hate The Game. Self Scientific’s DJ Khalil’s Da Shit just oozes left coast while Scott Storch’s Too Much is just too silky. Hi-Tek manages to outdo himself yet again on Ol’ English, which is absolutely captivating for both his and Game’s performances. Unfortunately Nottz doesn’t come as strong as usual on One Night and Jellyroll brings his usual mediocrity on Bang.
When Game falters on the mic, it isn’t just the production that saves him though, his seemingly unquenchable hunger is definitely something to be admired and applauded. It would have been easy for him to phone this one in after all his success the first time around. Though he did let Kanye steal the show from him on Wouldn’t Get Far, what is basically a tired rehash of Pac’s All About U. His incredible success so far may not have affected his drive, but it’s certainly taken his ego up a hundred notches; the best since Biggie and Pac? In the hall of fame behind Pac and next to Snoop? The west coast Rakim? Calling himself the new Dre (uh you don’t produce, no regards Dre as an emcee). Although maybe the latter is to be taken more seriously as Game spends several songs doing his best Dre imitation, down to his voice and his inflections. A lot of you are gonna hate to hear it, but 50’s absence here is noticeable and detrimental, as his sure fire catchy hooks are oft replaced with corny one’s
As an emcee, when Game is on and has something to say, he’s dope. You can’t deny that, he has proven his abilities be it storytelling the birth of his son or tearing G-Unit apart. But when he’s left just doing his marginal gangsta rap thing, he can be really wack too. Luckily for Game, while he is inconsistent on the mic, his beat selection is as good as it gets. For another album he is just laced with some incredible production from some of the best in the biz. It isn’t enough though, if Game wants to become the legend he already is in his own mind, he needs to get consistent and continually prove he is worth these beats. That means dropping his gimmick; you’re a blood from Compton, you love Chuck’s, weed, lowriders, 100 spokes, Dr. Dre and any and all types of gangsta shit. We get it, but we’ve heard it from you a thousand times and a million times from others who have said it better. No I’m not “hating,” I know the man has talent, he just needs to learn how to use it.

The HiphopDX review was pretty much on point. Some of his word play gets redundant, but when he's on, he a problem. The beats will probably give him a pass by a lot of people.

I logged on to the SESSIONS at AOl website yesterday because I too was curious...and after I listened I am happy that I did not decide to purchase this album...I got lost in some of the songs because what he was saying made no sense...
he had the same subject matter on many songs and it got boring real quick...I will admit..the joint with Busta was a good track but made him look weird crying to Dre like that...also not being on aftermath made him look dumb calling out Dre's name so much...
that hip hop dox review that someone posted in here was on point...alot of teh beats saved him from looking completely stupid...
also...for someone who has two singles out which have not attracted mainstream appeal..it does not look too good...with Game you have to take this into consideration because he carries himself like a household name and when he speaks you think that he still is...he has done more press than snoop and I can see snoop selling way more than him...
all in all...one more week until final judgement!!

My take on the album is.....The album is no way near a classic....if anything the whole CD sounds like a mixtape/compliation effort. If I buy either one of these albums it would piss 50 Cent off and that makes me grin. Well the Game to me, in my opinion, is not that lyrically inclined. I don't care for West coast beats with the exception of a few albums notable Pac's All Eyes On Me. His excessive name dropping bores me and makes me what to throw my cd player out of the window. Fat Joe improves with each album he releases. His has a constinent flow, nice lyrics, tight word play, etc, etc. I'm rocking with Fat Joe and I'm definitely enjoying all 12 trackes well maybe not the track with Jamaica beat with Game(of all people) on the hook..... The album's crowning achievement is its title track. The treatise offers a compelling insight into the MC's world by highlighting Game's emotional instability. Adopting the same off-kilter flow that made "Start From Scratch" arguably the pinnacle of his debut The Documentary, the troubled star pleads with Dr. Dre to understand his erratic antics over the past year. While Game's desperation to make amends may come across as pathetic on paper, the cut's overbearingly personal verses transpire as nothing short of riveting. Busta Rhymes, meanwhile, plays guidance counselor over J.R. Rotem's similarly thoughtful keys, attempting to bridge the gap between reserved mentor and scorned protege. It is a fascinating, yet sadly brief, trip into our subject's psyche.
Besides the above and a handful of others, most of Doctor's Advocate can be interpreted at a surface level. That's not necessarily a bad thing since The Documentary was equally straightforward, although Game does lapse into providing repetitive Dre homage's at times, with the street rhythm "It's Okay (One Blood)" coming to mind. When this occurs the artists commanding vocals, or verses or beats from Hip-Hop's most bankable, normally save tracks from the above-average ranks. The reliable Kanye West provides the backdrop for "Wouldn't Get Far", an entertaining ode to the video girl, which sees 'Kanyeezy' and 'Chuck Taylor' disparage these aspiring female superstars. Here, Game stands his ground next to a cocksure Mr. West. Over the familiar Los Angeles synthesizers of "Family Vacation", however, our subject seems somewhat out of his depth when placed alongside the iconic Snoop Dogg and a menacingly on-form Xzibit. Meanwhile, on "Scream On 'Em", the delivery of the Black Wall Street boss gets lost amidst producer Swizz Beatz' relentless energy.
Ironically, although average bars are worthy of criticism, it is his interesting personal foibles that catch the public's eyes and ears. Like Eminem before him, Game has allowed people a great scope of his world through his music and he's unapologetic about everything you see. This man remains wary of Mr. Jackson, idolizes Dr. Dre, and continues to poke away at some of the genre's heavyweights, while seemingly determined to prove himself at least their equal. Lyrically, he's not there just yet, but his conflicted personality salvages plenty. After all, his plight is intriguing: "Move bitch, you know who they came to see," he raps on "Let's Ride". He knows too, and Game will inevitably receive the attention he seeks..

True, the general formula imbedded in his debut still sounds relatively fresh, but the artist hasn't produced the lyrical upgrade required to stand unchallenged among Hip-Hop's elite. Doctor's Advocate leads the listener to conclude the Cali king won't stop until all his foes-artistic or critical, real or imagined-are vanquished. Game may have knocked adversity down a peg or two, and on this occasion some powerful jabs ensure he's in no danger of suffering a second round KO.

I’m not sure if it’s a shame or if it’s appropriate that this album will largely just be judged by Game dickriders claiming it’s a classic and G-Unot fell off and 50 Cent fan boys calling it wack and calling Gayme a faggot. It’s a shame because an albums success shouldn’t be fueled or failed by fans whose homoerotic blind allegiances won’t allow them to deal in anything but wild extremes. Though it may be appropriate as Game has really brought that on himself with his constant flip flopping, one week claiming he is done beefing with G-Unit, a 7000 bar diss track the next week, then offering a truce to 50 the next week followed quickly by another 8400 bar diss.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to controversy for The Game though, there has been endless speculation about his being sent from Aftermath to Geffen and why his “Doctor” wasn’t doing any beats on an album with the title dedicated to him. Toss in a fight with Ras Kass, the ever-changing tattoo, Change of Heart, steady claims he isn’t a blood and Game’s constant shit talking about anyone and anything and you’ve got a never ending buzz about an album.
Things haven’t really changed much from The Documentary, even with the absence of Dr. Dre (whose fingerprints still seem to be present mind you). The production (Just Blaze, Kanye West, Will.i.am, Hi-Tek, Scott Storch, Nottz, JR Rotem, Swizz Beatz, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil), is absolutely outstanding yet again. While it may not have quite as many jaw dropping beats as The Documentary had, it is just as consistent. Unfortunately, Game’s incessant name dropping is still here, every bit as excessive and irritating as it was last time, if not worse. Name drops of rappers and/or albums: 142. Of that, 41 is Dr. Dre. That folks, is ridiculous.
The problem with Game is he is pretty terrible when he has nothing to talk about, and it just becomes him trying not to ruin a dope beat with name-checking and infinite references to low riders, bloods, bandanas, guns, daytons, weed, khaki suits and chucks. Which is exactly why the best songs on the album come when Game gets sincere with his subject matter; Why You Hate The Game featuring Nas, One Night (though some may question its legitimacy), Ol’ English and Doctor’s Advocate featuring Busta Rhymes. The latter song really puts Game’s behavior into perspective, painting a picture of him as a young man struggling to handle all the spotlight and drama he was suddenly thrust into. Ironically, he does a lot of name-checking here, but there is actually some context and reason to it, and it works.
Compton, featuring and produced by Will.i.am, is a shining example of Game’s shortcomings as an emcee. In what could have been an incredible tribute to the historical city (as Will’s beat is pure heat), Game just talks random shit for 3 verses, never really saying much at all. He manages to get by on Just Blaze’s ridiculous 1992 Dre impression on The Remedy. The same can be said for the Swizz Beatz banger Scream On’em, I mean really, what the hell does this mean? “blow his fucking back out/cause I’m the rap Stackhouse.” What is the rap equivalent to Jerry Stackhouse? Nothing, that is rhyming for the sake of rhyming and making no sense. Which he does a lot, along with just rhyming the same word with each other. On tracks like Let’s Ride Game is flat out awful, supporting anyone’s notion that he can’t rhyme for shit. Or on the albums weakest track Around The World he spits “She like that Jay shit, that’s her favorite/if it’s gonna get me the pussy I’ma play that shit/if she bite too hard I’m say that shit/but don’t bite me bitch I don’t play that shit.” That is just so wack. But then he turns around on a song like Hi-Tek’s sinister Ol’ English and you’re thinking ‘damn, dude is dope.’ Some people can talk nonsense all day and sound fly doing it, Game can’t. He needs topics, and when he does, he’s dope as hell. For someone who claims to be so real, he spends most of the album shoving his gimmick down your throat and it suffers for it. When he actually does come “real,” he makes classic songs, there is no denying that.
The soundscapes definitely deserve most of the credit here. JR Rotem is probably the show stealer here, bringing back the classic west coast whine on the booming California Vacation and showing the soul on the title track. Along with the aforementioned Remedy, Just Blaze was also responsible for the standout Why You Hate The Game. Self Scientific’s DJ Khalil’s Da Shit just oozes left coast while Scott Storch’s Too Much is just too silky. Hi-Tek manages to outdo himself yet again on Ol’ English, which is absolutely captivating for both his and Game’s performances. Unfortunately Nottz doesn’t come as strong as usual on One Night and Jellyroll brings his usual mediocrity on Bang.
When Game falters on the mic, it isn’t just the production that saves him though, his seemingly unquenchable hunger is definitely something to be admired and applauded. It would have been easy for him to phone this one in after all his success the first time around. Though he did let Kanye steal the show from him on Wouldn’t Get Far, what is basically a tired rehash of Pac’s All About U. His incredible success so far may not have affected his drive, but it’s certainly taken his ego up a hundred notches; the best since Biggie and Pac? In the hall of fame behind Pac and next to Snoop? The west coast Rakim? Calling himself the new Dre (uh you don’t produce, no regards Dre as an emcee). Although maybe the latter is to be taken more seriously as Game spends several songs doing his best Dre imitation, down to his voice and his inflections. A lot of you are gonna hate to hear it, but 50’s absence here is noticeable and detrimental, as his sure fire catchy hooks are oft replaced with corny one’s
As an emcee, when Game is on and has something to say, he’s dope. You can’t deny that, he has proven his abilities be it storytelling the birth of his son or tearing G-Unit apart. But when he’s left just doing his marginal gangsta rap thing, he can be really wack too. Luckily for Game, while he is inconsistent on the mic, his beat selection is as good as it gets. For another album he is just laced with some incredible production from some of the best in the biz. It isn’t enough though, if Game wants to become the legend he already is in his own mind, he needs to get consistent and continually prove he is worth these beats. Second, the nigga Game is a clown for trying to claim he authorized the leak from the record company. Ima tell yall how albums get leaked, its not engineers or people in the studio. Cd's get to stores no more than 1 week before the album supposed to be dropped. Whats happenin is niggas in the stores like Best Buy are stealing them outta the box and puttin them on the net. its that simple. so right there i knew Game was lying about that one too.
Finally the nigga always talking about other rappers and its really getting old. All this unity in rap reminds of that song a long time ago called self destruction where there were all these rappers talkin like its we are the world. nigga fuck that its hiphop, 50 went at Ja-Rule cause his boss had him almost killed, and he went at Jada and Joe for being on that diss record NY NY with Ja. What amazes me more than anything is the irrational stuff that i read on this blog and others. So some people think this album is not as stellar as the documentary, some think it is. It's clear that we have some Game fans, and some who aren't.
I for one am pulling for the dude. Calling him a made up rapper or whatever, who isn't these days. I don't know who really banged, who really was in the trap, etc,, and to be honest it don't matter. I also loved TI's album, Busta's album, Lupe's album. I didn't like Mobb Deep's or Banks album. In the end Game has won, because he managed to swim even after taking shot after shot. Think about it no 50, no Dre, and no Big Fase and dude is still doing his thing. Hate him or love him, dude has managed to do his thing in the face of plenty of turmoil, some that he created. The Game - Doctor's Advocate

I’m not sure if it’s a shame or if it’s appropriate that this album will largely just be judged by Game dickriders claiming it’s a classic and G-Unot fell off and 50 Cent fan boys calling it wack and calling Gayme a faggot. It’s a shame because an albums success shouldn’t be fueled or failed by fans whose homoerotic blind allegiances won’t allow them to deal in anything but wild extremes. Though it may be appropriate as Game has really brought that on himself with his constant flip flopping, one week claiming he is done beefing with G-Unit, a 7000 bar diss track the next week, then offering a truce to 50 the next week followed quickly by another 8400 bar diss.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to controversy for The Game though, there has been endless speculation about his being sent from Aftermath to Geffen and why his “Doctor” wasn’t doing any beats on an album with the title dedicated to him. Toss in a fight with Ras Kass, the ever-changing tattoo, Change of Heart, steady claims he isn’t a blood and Game’s constant shit talking about anyone and anything and you’ve got a never ending buzz about an album.
Things haven’t really changed much from The Documentary, even with the absence of Dr. Dre (whose fingerprints still seem to be present mind you). The production (Just Blaze, Kanye West, Will.i.am, Hi-Tek, Scott Storch, Nottz, JR Rotem, Swizz Beatz, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil), is absolutely outstanding yet again. While it may not have quite as many jaw dropping beats as The Documentary had, it is just as consistent. Unfortunately, Game’s incessant name dropping is still here, every bit as excessive and irritating as it was last time, if not worse. Name drops of rappers and/or albums: 142. Of that, 41 is Dr. Dre. That folks, is ridiculous.
The problem with Game is he is pretty terrible when he has nothing to talk about, and it just becomes him trying not to ruin a dope beat with name-checking and infinite references to low riders, bloods, bandanas, guns, daytons, weed, khaki suits and chucks. Which is exactly why the best songs on the album come when Game gets sincere with his subject matter; Why You Hate The Game featuring Nas, One Night (though some may question its legitimacy), Ol’ English and Doctor’s Advocate featuring Busta Rhymes. The latter song really puts Game’s behavior into perspective, painting a picture of him as a young man struggling to handle all the spotlight and drama he was suddenly thrust into. Ironically, he does a lot of name-checking here, but there is actually some context and reason to it, and it works.
Compton, featuring and produced by Will.i.am, is a shining example of Game’s shortcomings as an emcee. In what could have been an incredible tribute to the historical city (as Will’s beat is pure heat), Game just talks random shit for 3 verses, never really saying much at all. He manages to get by on Just Blaze’s ridiculous 1992 Dre impression on The Remedy. The same can be said for the Swizz Beatz banger Scream On’em, I mean really, what the hell does this mean? “blow his fucking back out/cause I’m the rap Stackhouse.” What is the rap equivalent to Jerry Stackhouse? Nothing, that is rhyming for the sake of rhyming and making no sense. Which he does a lot, along with just rhyming the same word with each other. On tracks like Let’s Ride Game is flat out awful, supporting anyone’s notion that he can’t rhyme for shit. Or on the albums weakest track Around The World he spits “She like that Jay shit, that’s her favorite/if it’s gonna get me the pussy I’ma play that shit/if she bite too hard I’m say that shit/but don’t bite me bitch I don’t play that shit.” That is just so wack. But then he turns around on a song like Hi-Tek’s sinister Ol’ English and you’re thinking ‘damn, dude is dope.’ Some people can talk nonsense all day and sound fly doing it, Game can’t. He needs topics, and when he does, he’s dope as hell. For someone who claims to be so real, he spends most of the album shoving his gimmick down your throat and it suffers for it. When he actually does come “real,” he makes classic songs, there is no denying that.
The soundscapes definitely deserve most of the credit here. JR Rotem is probably the show stealer here, bringing back the classic west coast whine on the booming California Vacation and showing the soul on the title track. Along with the aforementioned Remedy, Just Blaze was also responsible for the standout Why You Hate The Game. Self Scientific’s DJ Khalil’s Da Shit just oozes left coast while Scott Storch’s Too Much is just too silky. Hi-Tek manages to outdo himself yet again on Ol’ English, which is absolutely captivating for both his and Game’s performances. Unfortunately Nottz doesn’t come as strong as usual on One Night and Jellyroll brings his usual mediocrity on Bang.
When Game falters on the mic, it isn’t just the production that saves him though, his seemingly unquenchable hunger is definitely something to be admired and applauded. It would have been easy for him to phone this one in after all his success the first time around. Though he did let Kanye steal the show from him on Wouldn’t Get Far, what is basically a tired rehash of Pac’s All About U. His incredible success so far may not have affected his drive, but it’s certainly taken his ego up a hundred notches; the best since Biggie and Pac? In the hall of fame behind Pac and next to Snoop? The west coast Rakim? Calling himself the new Dre (uh you don’t produce, no regards Dre as an emcee). Although maybe the latter is to be taken more seriously as Game spends several songs doing his best Dre imitation, down to his voice and his inflections. A lot of you are gonna hate to hear it, but 50’s absence here is noticeable and detrimental, as his sure fire catchy hooks are oft replaced with corny one’s
As an emcee, when Game is on and has something to say, he’s dope. You can’t deny that, he has proven his abilities be it storytelling the birth of his son or tearing G-Unit apart. But when he’s left just doing his marginal gangsta rap thing, he can be really wack too. Luckily for Game, while he is inconsistent on the mic, his beat selection is as good as it gets. For another album he is just laced with some incredible production from some of the best in the biz. It isn’t enough though, if Game wants to become the legend he already is in his own mind, he needs to get consistent and continually prove he is worth these beats. That means dropping his gimmick; you’re a blood from Compton, you love Chuck’s, weed, lowriders, 100 spokes, Dr. Dre and any and all types of gangsta shit. We get it, but we’ve heard it from you a thousand times and a million times from others who have said it better. No I’m not “hating,” I know the man has talent, he just needs to learn how to use it.
