Doctor's Advocate: The Official Rundown

So the UPS man finally showed up this morning with my copy of Doctor’s Advocate. After seeing some of the back and forth between people in response to yesterday’s blog (although most of the conversation was Soundscan-related), I was looking forward to getting home to check it out. And after listening to it a couple of times, I gotta say... it’s not too fuckin bad.

That’s a stretch, to say the least, but it is probably one of the better hip hop albums to come out this year.
If you take a look at yesterday’s blog comments, when people weren't projecting first week sales, everybody was either losing their shit over Doctor’s Advocate or shitting all over it. But I didn’t really see anyone who didn’t have strong feelings one way or the other. It seems like too many people have emotional investments in The Game’s music; people either love it or hate it, there’s no middle ground.
Some of the solid tracks on the album:
“It’s Okay (One Blood)”- I liked the single the first time I heard it on the radio, and then a little bit less each time I heard it, until I was finally burnt out on it. But now that they’ve eased up on the radio play, I’m kinda coming back around.
“Compton”- I’m not really seeing how this song is about Compton, but it’s still fire. Will.I.Am is silly as fuck to me, but after that “Bounce” joint that he did on Too Short’s album, and now this, he might actually be on a roll sometime soon...
“Too Much”- This has to be one of my favorite Scott Storch beats ever; the Tuff Jew touches back on his keyboard playing days with The Roots to give us some dope keys on this one, and the strings are minimal enough that they work out perfectly. Game definitely comes correct on this one, and Nate Dogg gives a relatively subtle performance on the hook.
“Wouldn’t Get Far”- Not the best Kanye track ever, but ‘Ye and Game do something clever with the subject matter, and it works out. But does anybody else remember this vocal sample from that Jadakiss track “By Your Side”?
“Scream On Em”- I know Swizz Beatz can do better than this, but Chuck Taylor goes for broke, and his energy on this track is undeniable.
“One Night”- The Game gets on some deep shit on this one, calling out fake homies, and it’s one of his better lyrical performances on the album. But a couple parts of the hook on this one has got me confused as fuck.
“Ol English”- Hi Tek always comes with it, and this is no exception. I’m typically not into super slow joints like this one, but both of them flipped it.
“Bang”- Jellyroll’s production has been fire this year (I know you heard “The Whole World” off that Xzibit album) and he keeps it popping with this one. And I could never get sick of hearing Kurupt and Daz when they’re in top form.
Some of the lamer songs on the album:
“Da Shit”- This hook is too fucking irritating for me to even listen to the song all the way through.
“Remedy”- The beat suuuuuucks.
“Doctor’s Advocate” (feat. Busta Rhymes)- I don’t know man, this song’s just fucking creepy. Is he crying on this one?
“Around The World” (feat. Jamie Foxx)- This one’s just plain corny. And Pharrell needs to holler at this Mr. Porter guy who produced it, because he bit the fuck out of “That Girl.”
“Why You Hate The Game?” (feat. Nas)- Maybe I was just expecting too much of this one. I would’ve liked to hear them ripping over a beat with a little more energy.
And I’m still on the fence with “California Vacation”; Game, Snoop and Xzibit all come with crazy verses but the beat is boring as fuck. With the lineup on this track, why didn’t they get a beat that was equally powerful?
Is Doctor’s Advocate an above-average album? Yeah, definitely. Is it really worth flipping the fuck out over? Not necessarily. For now, I’ll count it in the top ten, but there are still some major heaters that have yet to drop (Snoop, Jigga, Clipse) so we’ll see where it stands when January first rolls around.
By the way, if all of you junior marketing analysts can manage to tear yourself away from analyzing the album's sales on here for 24 hours, I'd love to hear what you think of the album.

I have mixed feelings about buying a Game Album. I have stopped buying albums with only a couple hot singles on in it a long time ago. I admire that he is trying to stand on his own, and create his own hype, but that is where it stops. I hear too much of the same from him, and that becomes annoying. I sampled the album last week and felt I could sum his album up in 10 words and a million name drops. ie: Dre, 64, Westside, 5 million, etc etc. I also don't buy his tough guy act. We all know this is entertainment so some don't look to deeply into it, but we all that anyone that is really into some stuff, doesn't make waves. All he has ever been guilty of is disorderly conduct, which is petty.

I am not a huge rap fan, but I will be picking up this CD on Friday. I can only judge on the beats and the flow. I so don't care about lyrical content til it ain't even funny. As such I can't go by other people's reviews because they are usually wanting something from a CD that is opposite of what I am looking for. So far I am happy with what I have heard
My take on the album is.....The album is no way near a classic....if anything the whole CD sounds like a mixtape/compliation effort. And yes, Game is the biggest NAMEDROPPER in hip-hop......he really needs to stop ridin Dre's dick too much (how many times did he says Dre's name?!?!? Like 16423 times......what makes the song "Doctors Adovcate" such a disgrace is that the nigga is damn neary crying to Dre copping a plea about how he fucked up.....the nigga has no fam support in his corner....his big mouth and smart ass "I'm the King" attitude fucked him up.....and you can tell his concpets are recycled.....the "Doctors Advocate" song is just a remix of "Start from Scratch" (same flow....drunk/high concept).....this album has no elevation....just the same ol' bullshit......and if this nigga says "6-Fo'" one more goddamn time, I'm gonna scream.....also, this nigga has some real serious HOMOtional issues with G-Unit....I've never in my life seen a nigga sooo obsessed with trying to take down a group......this nigga would of never been known if it wasn't for the shine he got being in the group in the first place.
Doctor's Advocate is decent, but not enough to warrant it a classic.....the only real standout joint on there is the Nas collabo.....
PS - Gayme needs to get off Eazy-E dick too......you anit his son, and he aint your fucken daddy!! Im a fan of game i bought the cd at 8am yesterday morning for $10.00that being said i was dissapointed with all the hype its at best a cool album.beats are ok and dr.dre and 50 cent make a big difference.I notice game has no hooks almost evey song somebody else is doing the hook or its a sample.Ill give the album 3.5 out of 5 at best.I personally think he was better wit g unit and aftermath.

Bought the Doctor's Advocate. Honestly I expected more. With all the top notch producer on this shit the beats were just OK. According to The Game, this album was a classic, not. A classic is an album that's fire from track 1 to track 16 and this album has too many holes in it. A classic also requires you to buy 2 copies one of which you don't open. My boys were interested in the album so I burned them copies which they thanked for (did'nt have drop 12.99). Luckily I have my real classic albums to count on!!!!!!!!!!
After hearing this album I asked myself one question:

I gave an assessment of Game’s joint yesterday and said it was damm good. My primary problems with the joint are relentless and unyielding ass kissing (Dre) and the name dropping.
I played his again this morning and like any good joint it sounded better the second time around. For the cats who are mentally challenged because they have this incurable Dick Riding disease they can’t assess this product because they are mentally retarded. Their minds are so indoctrinated with this G-Unit bullshit that they lost the ability objectively assess anything that Game, Nas or D-Block drops….Basically these niggas are retards.
The Game Dick riders are the same way. If 50 drops another GRODT (Which is one the illest joints ever) the mentally retarded Game Dick riders will say it is wack. Therefore you can’t even read their shit. If you see this “GAYME” as a term then scroll by because that is a G-Unit retard.

The bottom line is that the Doctors Advocate is a very good Album. I don’t know if it will sell…actually I sort hope that it does not and I hope 50 does not sell when he drops so niggas will stop looking at sales as a measure of success. Fuck sales. Either shit is crack or its Garbage….

you hating the beat on "the remedy" only PROVE you're not a PE fan...lol or you haven't heard "black steel in the hour of chaos"....pretty much you're taste in hiphop shitty and suspect...
and yes, the titled album track IS creepy, and according to an interview with JR rotem (who produced the track) game WAS drunk and emotional while doing this...which is the reason why i appreciate it more...VERY RARE you have an artist, a RAP artist at that that bares his soul on a track and leave him open without shame of getting his ego exposed...DMX used to bare that sort of feel on stage and get emotional, and the last person that i know of on wax that done that is PAC...so game showing the TRUE idea of whut an "artist" is gets props for this song...
"around the world" is probably the ONLY track i can agree with you on, because it's more tailor fitted for "the documentary", meaning it's has that commercial value like the last album, whereas this album is more STREET than anything else...
"why you hate the game"...yea, you kinda overhyped yourself, however if someone is going to conclude an album..this is definately the way to do it...it's a perfect way to conclude with it's epic production and bringing in the chior "a'la kanye style" and allow marsha to do her thing...
If people keep their feelings about his life out the equation then they would hear a good album, not classic, but good.

We can agree on the better tracks, although I gotta disagree on the Joint w/ Nas and the Remedy joint.
The beat wasn't the best off the album, but I liked what him and Nas were talkin about. The Remedy joint is a throwback beat, and it reminded me of that early 90s West Coast shit. He even took pauses and tried to rap in the style of some of the classic shit from back then:

Truthfully speaking, that Doctor's Advocate album is trash. I was defintely looking forward to game's new album. especially with all the hype surronding who would be on the album, etc. The remix coming out like a week before...all the marketing worked...but the music did not deliver. The documentary was on a whole nother level as far as quality goes....besides the single's that already dropped the only two other tracks I would mess around and bump for no apparant reason would be "California vacation, and the joint with nas.....this album was a disappointment....2.5 mics
What ya'll need to do is check the boy FAT JOE-ME,MYSELF & I......that album is crack!!! Joe comes back with one of his better albums....comes back spitting fire over grimy beats. It's NOT a Classic album, BUT it's DEF. the BEST album of the year so far, and it's WAYYY BETTER than Jay-Z's leaked album. Therefore, Game DID prove he doesn't need Dr.Dre or 50 Bitch, I mean Cent. Yo, no disrespect to my latino brotha and sisters...or to the latino Hip Hop in general...but I just want to say something.
I'm 1000% sure that there are more hip hoppers that believe in Jesus than there are hip hoppers that are heavily involved in latin hip hop.
Now..the only reason I say that is because I've been tryin to get at SOHH.COM to create a blog for Holy Hip Hop. Of course they would put the disclaimer that they do not endorse Christianity or whatever, but as it is now...alot of folks are sleeping on the fastest growing genre of Hip Hop out there. While current hip hop seems to be dying out, christian hip hop is growing at a rate comparable to early hip hop.
I'd just like to see it considered serious hip hop on a serious hip hop site, which SOHH claims to be. They gonna fall behind the power curve and be tryin to catch up after the fact. Because fact is, it's happening..christian hip hop is coming huge.

Games Album after listening to it a couple times I love it.
Best Songs (no particular order)
1.Doctor's Advocate Loved this track the beat is on some Haunted House type ish. Busta Killed his verse. I don't consider it creepy I like that he can show signs of Growth with topics like this.
2. California Vacation- The Beat isn't the Best that I agree with but I think Snoop did a helluva job on this.
3. Bang- Everyone was dope on this track the way they traded back and forth reminded me of Jada and Styles. The beat kinda grew on me.
4. Why you Hate The Game. I don't know what else to say Just did his thing. I'm a fan of the soulful stuff and Nas comes wit the mental as usual it was sick. The Game elevated his rap too by coming with some mental on his first verse the second he wasn't so deep but still good.
5. One blood- Single ain't listening to it cause radio burnt it out maybe later.
6. Strip Club- Same with this.
7 Old English- I love this. This whistle on the beat I could picture it all. the blend of his voice with the OLD English on the hook was nice. It made me picture Ezy E. How many people sat wit they pops on the weekend while they worked on cars at your Grandmas or Uncles house with cousins and shit and they was drinking beers and they let you have some! This is one of my Favs.
8. TOO MUCH- Scotty was nice on this. I liked this track it will grow on me more. Overall this was slightly above avg.
9.Wouldn't Get Far- Nice track tight beat but the topic was decent but didn't grab me. Ye did ok but not his best verse.
10. Compton- Its ok grew on me not my fav but I wouldn't skip it either. I could ride to it.
11.Scream on Em- Tight Swizz could came harder wit the beat but its a Solid effort Game Spits nice on this one.
12. Remedy- Not my fav one of the lesser songs on the album
13. Da Shit- I just cant get through it all. I had to skip it
14. One Night- Its Nice love the beat great topic
15. Around The World- Havent' really gave this one a shot. Kept going back to the others Sounds okay though.
I def think this is better than the Massacre and Rotten Apple It will def outsell the Rotten Apple but I don't know about a 1.1 Mil in a Week that may be a stretch.
Also For people complaining about him talking about Dre soo much Did you forget the Album was called the Doctors Advocate!!!??? That's like getting a book about Milk and being mad that its not about Clouds. Name dropping does wear thin sometimes but overall I give this a 4/12 out of 5 I personally would have shelfed that da shit song and put I'm Chillin wit cool&Dre on it. Its more Pop Clubby style but I love it.

You know, I actually liked the album. I was kind of disappointed with the NaS track, I guess I wanted a more amped up song from them. It was a bit too mellow for me. "Compton" was pretty sick.
All in all, I co-sign on the 10 ten of the year (so far).
Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. I've been listening to the D.A. for the past 5 days(shout out to the bootleggers). IMO the album is not a certified classic, but it is a must have. Game proved he could deliver a solid album without Dre or 50, so for that he gets props. I used to think that a Dre beat was overrated but for some reason I think this album needed them to push it over the top.

I bought the cd at circuit city for $9.99 (on the first week of release, a cd is 9.99). I definitely think Game's album is one of the best this year (the best would have to be Lupe Fiasco). But, one thing I don't understand is why you think the song Doctor's Advocate is a lame track. This is one of the very few times Game breaks that mold of anger he projects to express what his been going through. It's one of if not the best songs on the whole album. And then you say the album is not that bad but you post nearly half the songs on the lame side. That just doesn't make sense to me.

This is it? This is the official rundown of the Doctor's Advocate? You can't be serious. This coming from a guy who
previously admitted that "when he starts up with his over-the-top, mean-mugging tough guy hood swagger, I just can’t take him
seriously, and I’d be lying if I said that doesn’t have at least a little effect on me when I’m listening to his music" as if
Game's the first rapper with that problem? Get real. Why are you even talking this "official" bullshit if you know you not
even listening to it with an unbiased ear. And the tracks you're frontin on are the hottest ones on the shit.
I like The Game as a rapper. That said, I think he needs serious direction if he wants to sustain a career in this rap shit.
It's obvious that dude has some idiosyncracies in his character that can and will undo him if he doesn't tend to that shit.
Some of the moves and decisions he makes are just fuckin stupid (still trying to bait Jay into battle over what seems to be
the "westcoast dicklickin" line on Reasonable Doubt; if he's not starting illegitimate beefs with Memphis Bleek and the Young
Gunz, he's keeping Jay and Beyonce's name in his music with disrespectful undertones, or telling Jay to push his album back;
Suddenly aligning himself with Ja Rule...the fuck is that?) and bizarre (butterfly tattoos covered up, 100 apologies to 50
with another 100 diss tracks aimed at G-Unit, getting married to a chick that said herself she really didn't know him that
well, even on the new album, callin out Melyssa Ford and puttin other peeps business out there). But aside from all the
bullshit, that nigga does his job in the booth. Anyone frontin on talent like that cannot convince me that they know shit
about hiphop, especially in an age of "finger snappin" and corny ass dances.
The reason so many people are worried about The Game's album sales is simple. Anyone who's been paying attention sees what
the hell happened. 50 forgot what it was to be an up and coming nigga. After he got comfortable, he turned into the same
shit he hated, and tried to do the same shit that Ja tried to do to him. 50 forgot how he felt when he got kicked off that
J-Lo remix because Ja got in her her ear, and he was replaced with Nas. This was at least a year and a half before Em and
Dre approached 50. Irv and Ja did everything they could to kill 50's buzz and stop him from blowin up, and that's real shit.
Years later, 50's set and big Interscope Iovine decides it's a good idea to add Game to G-Unit. If Game would have played
the Banks, Buck and Yayo role, they'd all be flopping together. But Game did what? Fuckin 5 mil? 50 knew it wasn't gonna
be long before peeps started sayin "50, Game & G-Unit"and his ego wasn't gonna have it. This is the fucked up part. I
believe Dre , 50 and Game could have put their heads together and came up with a marketing strategy that would have made it
at least appear that Game left G-Unit to pursue his own career, without all the beef bullshit that eventually came. But 50
hit the airwaves and tried to shit on Game...and he tried to overkill dude, even worse than the Ja Rule shit (which it should
be noted, he had a lot of help there). 50 just KNEW he was big enough to kill this nigga's career. I still have the
interviews from then, 50 on some "I wrote his album (when he really just contributed to the hooks)", "I'm in both of his
videos for both of his singles (which subsequently hasn't done shit for Yayo, Buck or Banks...yeah, Banks and Buck sold, but
it was nowhere near what Game did)" type shit. He just knew that Game wasn't shit without him, and he kicked dude out the
group on some "disloyal" bullshit because dude wouldn't share his illegitimate beef with Fat Joe, Nas & D-Block. Side question, by the way: Does anybody remember that special edition XXL last year with the G-Unit cover that came out right after Mobb Deep and M.O.P. signed? Anyone who read the M.O.P. article will tell you that those niggas said in plain English that they wouldn't be taking part in 50's beef with D-Block, Nas or Fat Joe. They did the exact opposite of what Mobb Deep did and kept that shit 100. I have yet to see 50 publicly denounce them. Why? Game was a new artist 50 was bigger than. Yeah, he's bigger than M.O.P., but he knows they're not gonna go for that Diana Ross "I'm the boss" type shit.
That's why I fuck with Game...because after all the shit he went through with 50 trying to publicly humiliate dude, he's definitely the underdog. And I'm not the only one that's a sucker for a good underdog story, and it doesn't hurt that I've heard 2 solid albums and numberous mixtapes where dude completely murders shit. I like California Vacation, and i think it should be his next single, simply because u got him, snoop, and X, all commin real hard, and let's face it, white people buy cd's, and we already kno they love X thanks to MTV, and they love snoop too, the beat is simple, but it gets the point across, HARD, that's the point of the song, regardless of how simple it is, it takes some true lyricists to spit that raw on a track so simple....but he'll prolly go with the Jamie Foxx track, which i agree is bad

2. Subject matter, this whole CD is about Dr. Dre NOT game. EVERY FUCKIN SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. Cheap production, half of the beats sound cheezy as fuck! Are we really that desperate to turn something into a hip-hop classic that we'll make it out of anything. Hell, Game rapper better on those mixtapes
4. 50 WAS RIGHT, Game can rap BUT he can't write songs. He can't write songs with out name droppin'
5. If you consider "One Blood" to be a REALLY hot song then don't bother to listen to the rest of the records.
6. Is it me, or does the album sound very similar to all those "other" game albums form BEFORE he was with G-unit. you see how those records stay on the shelf?
Bottom line:
THIS RECORD CAN BE HIGHLY SLEPT ON, BUT IF YOU ARE A GAME FAN THEN ITS WORTH DOWNLOADING IT FOR FREE.

ok ok...I've heard the Doctor's Advocate and I give it a 4/5. This album is just as sick as the Documentary and it proves that Game does not need Dre nor Fif and his lil soldiers to make good music. I like that this album is more street and got a classic west coast feel to it.
Also, I hear ya boy Fif wants to drop 30 diss tracks on game w/ all his G-Unit peeps. I will say this, if he does that, he will be stupidest dude on the planet. It's gonna show that Fif needs his whole camp to try and destroy Game meanwhile Game dropped 300 bars and shittin on all of them by himself. Game dont need anybody and I like he became a leader and not a follower like Banks, Buck, and Yayo.

i listened tothe doctors advocate today and i must say i am not impressed at all. it's an o.k. album so it isn't even worth burning. my friend is mad he wasted 10.00 buying that shit. this year really hasn't been a good year for hip-hop albums except for T.i.
Getting kicked out of GUNIT was a blessing in disguise for Game. By not going by the 50 formula, you can tell that on Doctor's Advocate Game is becoming his own man on this album. While it is not a certified classic, it is probably the best rap album to come out in 2006. I, just like Grown Man Business love a good underdog story and that is what Game is right now, the underdog. By not being in GUNIT, Game is allowed to broaden his horizons by working with other artist and producers, unlike with other GUNIT albums its ALL GUNIT, ALL THE TIME. I actually bought ROTTEN APPLE because I was curious to see if Banks has gotten better since Hunger For More. Unfortunately just like his mentor, he got rich and stopped trying and that is why his album went double plastic. For all the talk of needing 50 Cent in order to sell records, why dont you GUNIT dickriders go ask YAYO, MOBB DEEP, & BANKS how their album sales have been doing as of late.

REAL TALK-Listened to "Doctor's Advocate" --One Word--trash! He was releasin tracks on the internet to hype sales, and only promoted the ones that had better production. I gave him credit as a lyricist when I heard Soundscan and thejoynt wit Nas, but other than that, every song refers to "switches in his 64, Dayton Wires, Compton, NWA & How he loves Dre? And WOULD YALL STOP REFERRING TO HIM AS A HIP HOP ARTIST--he is a rapper, a RAP artist--thats it. The Hurricane shoes are wack as hell, the cd, to say the lease was WARM BOO BOO on a stick! No hooks, the will.i.am track was boo boo, Just Blaze just looped a 3.5 second part of P.E.'s old track, who sampled it from Isaac Hayes anyway and never did anything no new drums, nothin just a loop and then a scratch for the hook--and he probably paid that clown a few stacks for that. I used to give a lot of these producers credit, the Kanye's the Just Blaze's, the Scott Storch's the Swizz Beatz's, they all sound corny now. If you gon sample, put some work into it and stop usin this 1993 drum kits where it sounds like u got a rock band in the background. Kanye, if you're listening, do more than 3 loops per track, go back to the B. Siegel before you got a real deal clown! Swizz, for a ni99a who used to brag about makin a beat in less than 15 minutes, thats obvious. Ive made beats in 10 that would blow that weak ish u gave Game out the water. Scott, u got in because u worked wit some heavy hitters back in the day and they respected your drive, but these synthesizer, 1983 Fleetwood Mac, soft rock backdrops and weak breaks have got to stop--for real yall are killin my music. And Just Blaze, last but certainly not least, you got credit for the track u did for Jay-Z, just because you you played live drums over and already laid out drum pattern, not exactly rocket science is it--do the math. I’m not sure if it’s a shame or if it’s appropriate that this album will largely just be judged by Game dickriders claiming it’s a classic and G-Unot fell off and 50 Cent fan boys calling it wack and calling Gayme a faggot. It’s a shame because an albums success shouldn’t be fueled or failed by fans whose homoerotic blind allegiances won’t allow them to deal in anything but wild extremes. Though it may be appropriate as Game has really brought that on himself with his constant flip flopping, one week claiming he is done beefing with G-Unit, a 7000 bar diss track the next week, then offering a truce to 50 the next week followed quickly by another 8400 bar diss.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to controversy for The Game though, there has been endless speculation about his being sent from Aftermath to Geffen and why his “Doctor” wasn’t doing any beats on an album with the title dedicated to him. Toss in a fight with Ras Kass, the ever-changing tattoo, Change of Heart, steady claims he isn’t a blood and Game’s constant shit talking about anyone and anything and you’ve got a never ending buzz about an album.
Things haven’t really changed much from The Documentary, even with the absence of Dr. Dre (whose fingerprints still seem to be present mind you). The production (Just Blaze, Kanye West, Will.i.am, Hi-Tek, Scott Storch, Nottz, JR Rotem, Swizz Beatz, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil), is absolutely outstanding yet again. While it may not have quite as many jaw dropping beats as The Documentary had, it is just as consistent. Unfortunately, Game’s incessant name dropping is still here, every bit as excessive and irritating as it was last time, if not worse. Name drops of rappers and/or albums: 142. Of that, 41 is Dr. Dre. That folks, is ridiculous.
The problem with Game is he is pretty terrible when he has nothing to talk about, and it just becomes him trying not to ruin a dope beat with name-checking and infinite references to low riders, bloods, bandanas, guns, daytons, weed, khaki suits and chucks. Which is exactly why the best songs on the album come when Game gets sincere with his subject matter; Why You Hate The Game featuring Nas, One Night (though some may question its legitimacy), Ol’ English and Doctor’s Advocate featuring Busta Rhymes. The latter song really puts Game’s behavior into perspective, painting a picture of him as a young man struggling to handle all the spotlight and drama he was suddenly thrust into. Ironically, he does a lot of name-checking here, but there is actually some context and reason to it, and it works.
Compton, featuring and produced by Will.i.am, is a shining example of Game’s shortcomings as an emcee. In what could have been an incredible tribute to the historical city (as Will’s beat is pure heat), Game just talks random shit for 3 verses, never really saying much at all. He manages to get by on Just Blaze’s ridiculous 1992 Dre impression on The Remedy. The same can be said for the Swizz Beatz banger Scream On’em, I mean really, what the hell does this mean? “blow his fucking back out/cause I’m the rap Stackhouse.” What is the rap equivalent to Jerry Stackhouse? Nothing, that is rhyming for the sake of rhyming and making no sense. Which he does a lot, along with just rhyming the same word with each other. On tracks like Let’s Ride Game is flat out awful, supporting anyone’s notion that he can’t rhyme for shit. Or on the albums weakest track Around The World he spits “She like that Jay shit, that’s her favorite/if it’s gonna get me the pussy I’ma play that shit/if she bite too hard I’m say that shit/but don’t bite me bitch I don’t play that shit.” That is just so wack. But then he turns around on a song like Hi-Tek’s sinister Ol’ English and you’re thinking ‘damn, dude is dope.’ Some people can talk nonsense all day and sound fly doing it, Game can’t. He needs topics, and when he does, he’s dope as hell. For someone who claims to be so real, he spends most of the album shoving his gimmick down your throat and it suffers for it. When he actually does come “real,” he makes classic songs, there is no denying that.
The soundscapes definitely deserve most of the credit here. JR Rotem is probably the show stealer here, bringing back the classic west coast whine on the booming California Vacation and showing the soul on the title track. Along with the aforementioned Remedy, Just Blaze was also responsible for the standout Why You Hate The Game. Self Scientific’s DJ Khalil’s Da Shit just oozes left coast while Scott Storch’s Too Much is just too silky. Hi-Tek manages to outdo himself yet again on Ol’ English, which is absolutely captivating for both his and Game’s performances. Unfortunately Nottz doesn’t come as strong as usual on One Night and Jellyroll brings his usual mediocrity on Bang.
When Game falters on the mic, it isn’t just the production that saves him though, his seemingly unquenchable hunger is definitely something to be admired and applauded. It would have been easy for him to phone this one in after all his success the first time around. Though he did let Kanye steal the show from him on Wouldn’t Get Far, what is basically a tired rehash of Pac’s All About U. His incredible success so far may not have affected his drive, but it’s certainly taken his ego up a hundred notches; the best since Biggie and Pac? In the hall of fame behind Pac and next to Snoop? The west coast Rakim? Calling himself the new Dre (uh you don’t produce, no regards Dre as an emcee). Although maybe the latter is to be taken more seriously as Game spends several songs doing his best Dre imitation, down to his voice and his inflections. A lot of you are gonna hate to hear it, but 50’s absence here is noticeable and detrimental, as his sure fire catchy hooks are oft replaced with corny one’s
As an emcee, when Game is on and has something to say, he’s dope. You can’t deny that, he has proven his abilities be it storytelling the birth of his son or tearing G-Unit apart. But when he’s left just doing his marginal gangsta rap thing, he can be really wack too. Luckily for Game, while he is inconsistent on the mic, his beat selection is as good as it gets. For another album he is just laced with some incredible production from some of the best in the biz. It isn’t enough though, if Game wants to become the legend he already is in his own mind, he needs to get consistent and continually prove he is worth these beats. That means dropping his gimmick; you’re a blood from Compton, you love Chuck’s, weed, lowriders, 100 spokes, Dr. Dre and any and all types of gangsta shit. We get it, but we’ve heard it from you a thousand times and a million times from others who have said it better. No I’m not “hating,” I know the man has talent, he just needs to learn how to use it.

i'ma fan of game, and i been waiting for this release for a couple months now, and i'm glad this shit is finally here so we can all just move on, damn. with that said i think this the 2nd best release this year, behind T.I.'s. I think this shit deserves 4 out of 5 mics, it ain't incredible, but it ain't bad, bottom line-it's a good ass album. i didn't think the documentary was THAT tight, but it was pretty cold, but this shit comes pretty damn close to it. all i know is this nigga outselling g-unit and making way more bank than them niggas, cause we all know yayo, banks, mobb deep and all them niggas dont see any of the $$$ from their album sales, especially when they only sell 100,000. but my favorite tracks are-
one blood (self explanitory, this shit bangs, the beat is crazy and game kills it)
remedy (this shit is cold, the beat tight and he rides it crazy, this one of the best songs on here for real)
why you hate the game (crazy joint right here, great sample by just blaze, nas verse is cold, and game kills the rest, this a crazy track you gotta hear it)

Game's album is the best so far this year. And he's set the bar high for Nas, Snoop n Jay-Z.
I think this review doesn't do it justice and thats a shame.
I am a Game hater (how the FUCK are you gonna say Ras is garbage? He talks WAY too reckless) but I got the album because I always judge an artist on precedence, and at first was like damn, that's hot as shit.
Then the little things started annoying me (name dropping, recycled lyrical content, etc.) But I think that the fact that less than a week later the shit is out of my rotation (replaced by AZ - The Format is nuts) pretty much explains a lot. After a couple listens, it loses its alure (sp?). Plus, he is disloyal and if he doesn't grow as an artist and a person (u hatin' or g-unit or offering an olive branch and claiming u don't have beef? Pick a side!).
I think whether or not this cd is worth the price of admission is pretty much up to you (I'm probably the only person who at one point bumped this and Soul on Ice back to back - Ras Kass 1, Game 0) and saw it as an album that had more bangers than wack tracks, which is really what an album is about

the album is alright. But that doctor's advocate track is a little strange. I can't really get down with it. I'm not a Game or 50 stan. But he basically revealed how disloyal he was. If he was going to make a sincere song to someone it should have been to 50. When he was with Gunit, he admit it himself that 50 really put him on. This dude was about to get release by Aftermath and Dre wasn't going to do anything about it. 50 made his career. I also read some were that 50 was really upset by the split up. Hopefully they can put their b.s. beef aside, and work together again.

Adopting the same off-kilter flow that made "Start From Scratch" arguably the pinnacle of his debut The Documentary, the troubled star pleads with Dr. Dre to understand his erratic antics over the past year. While Game's desperation to make amends may come across as pathetic on paper, the cut's overbearingly personal verses transpire as nothing short of riveting. Busta Rhymes, meanwhile, plays guidance counselor over J.R. Rotem's similarly thoughtful keys, attempting to bridge the gap between reserved mentor and scorned protege. It is a fascinating, yet sadly brief, trip into our subject's psyche.
Besides the above and a handful of others, most of Doctor's Advocate can be interpreted at a surface level. That's not necessarily a bad thing since The Documentary was equally straightforward, although Game does lapse into providing repetitive Dre homage's at times, with the street rhythm "It's Okay (One Blood)" coming to mind. When this occurs the artists commanding vocals, or verses or beats from Hip-Hop's most bankable, normally save tracks from the above-average ranks. The reliable Kanye West provides the backdrop for "Wouldn't Get Far", an entertaining ode to the video girl, which sees 'Kanyeezy' and 'Chuck Taylor' disparage these aspiring female superstars. Here, Game stands his ground next to a cocksure Mr. West. Over the familiar Los Angeles synthesizers of "Family Vacation", however, our subject seems somewhat out of his depth when placed alongside the iconic Snoop Dogg and a menacingly on-form Xzibit. I think people are being a little bit too hard on this album. I mean some of ya'll seem like ya'll have personal convictions against him and shit don't none of ya'll even know that man. I thought the album was pretty good and rather unique which is a good thing in an industry where everybody's the same. I even think the reviewer was being to hard on the album some of the songs in the lame list weren't at all lame. I don't know to each his own I guess, but still for me it's pretty good...and I heard the new Jay I really don't think his album is better than game's shit...

Album is pretty good. I am not disappointed cuz i never expected a classic. I mean Dre is gone and thats big. But i gotta give this to Game, he managed this situation pretty well. The album is consistent and has some great (and other not so great) tracks on it. Da Shit is a nice song. I like the end of the "Wouldn't get far" video. brought back memories of Pac's "All about you"

This is one of the best CDs to come out in a while. The game is one of the most talented rappers of all time. Look at 300 bars and runnin, its one of the best rap songs of all time. I put this CD in and played it the whole way through. I just wanted to sit on the porch and watch the west coast sun set. The game brought back that classic west coast sound thats been missing since the hey day of pac and dre and snoop. On this cd he is a lyrical Genius. Every song he did for this album tells a story that gets you hooked. And Lloyd banks is garbage the only career he could end would be his own and he did. When I go coasting i will glady put this cd in any day and blast the hell out of it. I cant say that about fifty or anyone from Gunit thier shit sounds pussy.. If you are a straight man and you like the ladies you do not listen to that fag shit. The best albums so far this year are Cam'rons killah season, jim jones P.O.M.E and the games Doctors advocate.

The album is not half bad... I think the problem with some of these people who say it sucked is they were expecting way to much.. I don't think it is better than "The Documentary", but I think for a solo Game project without G-Unit/Dre help...it's pretty good.. Now, in order for him to prove he does not need G-Unit or Dre or whoever's help, and he can do it all alone...he has to at least match the album sales that he had on "The Documentary." If he doesn't...then he failed. He can go 3X platinum, make his money...but not matching those sales will deem him a failure in that department...

The cd is straight crack. Very few cd's that I can listen to from beginning to end, but this one is no problem. "Gangsta Boogie" is kind of tempting to skip, never been a fan of Will I Am beats. It gets real hot once you get to Let's Ride, and from there it is all good.
