For those who don’t know, Snoop was arrested for the -- count em’ up -- THIRD time in three months, again with weed and a gun, but this time he upped the ante and added some yayo for good measure. He’s still awaiting trial on two other cases, and apparently, big Snoop decided it would be a good idea to leave the Jay Leno show in Burbank riding dirty with all the elements of a crunk ass afterparty (although he was noticeably missing an oversized bottle of Belvedere) in his stashbox, ‘cause that’s what intelligent guys do when they’re “laying low.”
I guess the first two times it was sort of funny in a “Oh, that crazy Snoop Dogg! He’s up to his old antics again...” kind of way. But when I heard the news this morning on the radio while driving to work, all I could do was shake my head slowly. I would’ve hung my head in shame, but you know... it’s hard to drive when you’re doing that.
For the record, I’m aware that rappers -- much like Charles Barkley -- aren’t role models. But at what point does a 35-year-old man start acting his age? It’s one thing if you’re a penniless 16-year-old rolling around with nothing to lose on some “fuck the world” shit, but when you’re a successful entertainer, father, husband and Pee Wee football coach, you need to step your game up a little. I can't for the life of me begin to fathom why someone with so much to lose would put their livelihood, and the livelihood of their family on the line for such dumb shit. Especially when it’s obvious that Johnny Law is keeping pretty close tabs on you. Grow the fuck up and take care of your family.
Things were still looking good before all of this, despite the upcoming trials on his first two dumbass arrests; he released his best album since Doggystyle, and he just announced the “How The West Was Won” tour in early 2007 with The Game
On a related note, the numbers for the first week sales of Blue Carpet Treatment, and while they’re not spectacular, they’re decent. First week sales hit at around 275,000, coming in fifth after Jiggaman, a country star, a compilation of the year’s shittiest pop hits, and a record from a British group comprised of two dead guys, a 60-something-year-old man who beat his one-legged wife, and the former host of Shining Times Station.
Good luck promoting the album from jail, son.

I think anyone who thinks this is a publicity stunt ain't from the streets. NO ONE GOES TO JAIL WILLINGLY. Not even the slave master industry execs could convince Snoop to put his freedom on the line for record sales. He is just plain stupid and a drug addict. I may get some hate for this one, but let's be for real. A few month's ago I watched the mtv special for snoop, I think they call it Ryhme and reason or something. I was looking at it and my girl say's " damn, why Snoop look so old"? so I stopped listen to the music and started paying attention to him and how he looked. She was like hell no, but being formerly of the streets, my conclusion is sound. and now he get arrested again for the third time in 3 months, on what charges? posession of a weapon, weed and COCAINE. you say he should know better than to be getting in the trouble he is, but how can he, when he's out of control. did you see him on Wendy williams, last week? that aint no weed high. I heared a while back that havoc produced a track for nas's new album, and 50 didnt appreciate it, and refuses to work with havoc.
and then i was watching mtv and they had EVERYBODY from shady and gunit, and havoc wasnt there - and 50 said they were working on prodigy's SOLO album.
but i never see havoc with them anymore. and i rather hear a havoc solo before another prodigy solo.

This is a disappointment. I know entertainments are human, but when you say that you coach kids and try to be a model, is this the example that they should follow? I cannot figure Snoop out. One time he is this humble dude that wants to be a good example for kids, the next he is in the headlines for bullshit. Actually, no, you're not right.
In case you're just tuning in (which is obviously the case), I spent all of last week bigging up Blue Carpet Treatment and giving Snoop daps for making his best album since Doggystyle; I even gave him daps on the album in this blog. I criticized him for making some dumbass decisions, which you just paraphrased, in between saying SOHH hates the world.

I see your point, but I feel like that's something I definitely try to do. To put it into persepective though, when I review an album, I try to give a COMPLETE review, which includes the good and the bad. Even if I love an album (and I loved Blue Carpet) I'm still going to discuss its low points as well as the its strengths.
I can't speak for the other blog writers, but you're right- I definitely do get a some negative vibe occasionally. But when I write about hip hop every day, something that I'm not feeling is gonna come every now and then. I try to keep it mostly positive, but shit's frustrating; I love hip hop, but I hate when dudes come with weak ass shit and push it on the masses.
In regards to Snoop, I respect him for the most part- as an artist, and as someone who does a lot of positive work for his community. But it's like two steps forward, three steps back. When he gets arrested three times in three months, it stands out to the non-hip hop population a lot more than his work in the community does, which sucks.
At any rate, I appreciate you giving a respectful, well-thought out response, instead of just wildin out in a burst of put downs and namecalling like a lot of cats do on here.
