While the whole world is focusing on John McCain and Barack Obama, the Green Party has been silently making moves to establish themselves to be a legitimate third party contender.  Earlier this year the left leaning group picked the controversial Cynthia McKinney to be their presumptive Presidential nominee. And now the group is announcing that they tapped hip-hop activist Rosa Clemente to be on their ticket to run as McKinney's VP.

Clemente, a Bronx born Afro-Puerto Rican, has been a consistent voice of change for the hip-hop generation.  Not only has she made headlines with her strong stances against racism and female explotation, but she also hasn't been afraid to critique hip-hop's leaders including Russell Simmons.

Here is a quote from a recent release:

"I choose to do this, not for me, but for my generation, my community and my daughter. I don't see the Green Party as an alternative; I see it as an imperative. I trust that my Vice Presidential run will inspire all people, but especially young people of color, to recognize that we have more then two choices. Together, we can build the future we've been wanting."

While its clear that its gonna be difficult for the Green Party to get much air time this year in the mainstream media, Clemente is making a major move for the hip-hop community.  Congrats sista!!

I applaud the effort but GET REAL

Yeah. Let's applaud the sistas and let us say a prayer for Brotha Barack. As insignificant as the Greenies are, they WILL take votes from Brotha Barack.

i don't think losing six votes is going to hurt barack

Yeah it's funny how Dems hate on other liberal parties for "stealing votes" (ie. Nader in 2000 and 2004). You didn't see the other side blamin their losses to Clinton on Ross Perot when he got 20% of the popular vote(circa '92, '96).

For real though, these 3rd parties always act like they oppressed and shit ie. "the mainstream media won't give them coverage". Get hell outta here wit that. If they got votes, support, and enough financial backing from supporters they'd get into debates and get media coverage. Really America just doesn't like these crazy ideologues and these guys wear their political ideologies like a badge. The D's and R's are generally more moderate and less ideological (or at least pretend that they are anyway). The two canidates we have in this election are a good example: We have John McCain who actually is a moderate. Than we have Barack Obama a liberal ideologue pretending to be a moderate... sort of like George W who was a conservative ideologue pretending to be a moderate.

Legendary? Hip Hop Activist? What a reach!!! How about she's a smart misguided woman wasting all her potential on publicty stunts!

Why do people try to associate anything black with hip hop when hip hop is controlled and financially supported by WHITES?! Get a grip already. Hi Hop is not the new classification for black people. You kool aid drinkers need a reality check. Hip Hop is a BUSINESS and not even one we control. Stop being so desperate to be identified with ANYTHING successful.
