Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Kanye West’s Glow in the Dark Tour at Madison Square Garden in NYC. I have to admit, I hadn’t been this excited to see a show since high school.

After waiting in the long will call line, I picked up my tickets and found my seat just in time to catch the last few songs of Lupe’s set. Though it was bare bones (small stage, DJ, hypeman and some singers) Lu definitely put on a good show. He was dancing all over the place and holding up his brand new gold plaque for, “The Cool.â€

And then there was N.E.R.D. Pharrell Williams rocked out with two drummers, a few keyboardists (one of whom was Chad Hugo) and some hypemen. At one point I even caught dude jumping in the air and clicking his heels. Seriously. Their set was enjoyable especially when they performed “Spazz.†N.E.R.D. was joined on stage by a few posse members including the Princess of Harlem, Teyana Taylor who spazzed out with the rest of the crew.

Rihanna hit the stage next, wearing a humongous black dress with a tulle bottom. I have to say, I was really impressed with Lil Miss Sunshine. In addition to all of her hits, she covered MIA’s “Paper Planes†and…. wait for it… “Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)â€! Then she killed it by bringing out her rumored beau Chris Brown for an “Umbrella/Cinderella†medley.

And last, but certainly not least the man of the night, Kanye West, emerged. There’s not much that I can say about the show that hasn’t already been said. It was bananas!
The man ran around in outerspace for and hour and a half straight without taking a breath. For those that don’t know, the concept of Glow In the Dark is that Yeezy is sent on a mission into space to find inspiration. As his set begins, his spaceship, Jane, is crashing and he is forced to use his star power to fix the ship and get home. Believe me, it’s much cooler than it sounds.
From “Good Morning†to “Homecoming†Ye takes us through his ups (“Good Lifeâ€) and downs (“All Falls Downâ€). Along the way, he summons help from above (“Jesus Walksâ€) and even gets a little frisky with Jane (“Gold Diggerâ€).
Kanye, definitely gets an A+ in my book for effort and creativity. I’m sure some of you guys have seen the show. What did you think?
