Today, I went to Rikers Island for the media debacle that was Foxy Brown’s release from prison. It was quite the adventure to say the least. I woke up crazy early and made my way to Queens Plaza where I caught the Q100 bus with nonstop service to Rikers Island.
Most of the people on the bus were actually going to visit inmates so I felt a little out of place, until we pulled up to the main entrance and I saw the growing crowd of media folks.
Everybody was there from ABC to TMZ (and everyone in between). All of the media outlets passed the time trying to figure out when and where Fox would be released and interviewing some of the hardcore fans that showed up to support their girl. They had custom made t-shirts, posters and balloons. One guy even had some Air Maxes with “Foxy” embroidered on the heel.
Eventually, a fleet of Rolls Royces and a Maybach pulled up and we thought it was go time. It wasn’t. But a few hours later, Foxy emerged from one of the Rolls. At that point I switched over to video to capture Fox Boogie’s first few minutes of freedom. It was absolute chaos as cameramen and fans screamed and pushed to get close to the Brooklyn femcee.
